It's based around an American protagonist. Effectively, that means it covers the last 12 minutes of the war.
I think if any time was best to make a AAA shooter based on WW1 it's a hundred years after it actually happened.
1. People might bother to learn what the war was like
2. The people actually involved are all mostly dead, so we don't have to feel bad about making light of the horrors they took part in.
