When the first American troops arrived, they had outdated rifles and no artillery. The French had to provide both. Then the Americans refused to cooperate with the other Allies and insisted on getting an entire front to themselves. When they finally consented to work with the Canadians in mid-1918, the Americans refused to use creeping bombardments and just charged machine gun nests. When that failed, they promptly began shelling the Canadian trenches.

I just got back from the world premier event at EA headquarters. Artillery strikes are in. So is player controlled naval bombardment. The content they showed focused around the Alps, Arabian deserts, and french plains. There was exclusive in game footage that showed bi-plane bombing runs and artillery strikes in game and it looks as visceral as you would expect.
Mounted horse combat and an improved melee fighting system are also going to be coming along with more fluid environment action (busting down doors/vaulting/et cetera).

He apparently beat a senior officer for sending them towards the Turkish minefield and was disciplined for it. They're taking the 1 for this iteration because it's a return to the team based gameplay dynamics that made 42, Vietnam, and 2 so popular.
