Welcome to The Lost Island Quest. Last thread our hero, Alan Rodain, gathered the remnants of the Circle, led half of them to their deaths and volunteered to hold the line for an impressive feint maneuver. Now, Alan finishes a seemingly impossible task.

You breathe out heavily. Your arms feel like they have hellfire coursing through the veins. Your fists are numb. Sweat pours down your face.

Gabby is bent over, hands on her knees, trying to recover. At some point during the fight she decided to take off her robe, you don't remember when.

The ground is littered with ripped up spell scrolls and wands reduced to useless sticks. Quissonce shakes out one last one, giving it to Ed to break in half and toss once she is unable to milk one last spell out of it.

“Hey Gabby,” you turn your head to her from where you're leaning against the broken battlements of the city.

“Yeah . . .” she takes a few more breaths, looking up at you. “ . . . Al?”

You laugh a bit to yourself. “I lost count.” Rowe comes up and takes the last of your arrows from your quiver.

Gabby chuckles through her body's attempt to force her into passing out. “Eh, me too. I probably won though, so lucky you.”

“I think we killed them all,” Gale remarks. You've certainly killed hundreds. This one choke point is filled completely with the redead, providing anywhere from a two-foot to five-foot walking path of bones and putrid flesh. There's going to be a lot of clean-up required in the coming days.

“Alright, the hobgoblins are pushing forward now. I believe it's time we make our exit,” Quissonce comments, pointing towards the amassed forces that have decided to sit patiently outside your walls while their nightmarish pets sought to weaken you. They do seem to be shifting their formation. But that doesn't seem to be an offensive pattern.

(Who is that?) you hear. You look over to Rowe and see her squinting off in the distance. You follow her vision to the area she's examining and make out the ripple in the formation of soldiers as they get out of the way of what looks to be a group of particularly large and burly skeletons. Like they come from much larger sapients.

Wait. You look down at the dead zombies and skeletons you've dispatched. They look like human corpses. Yet none of the species you've met on this Island have heard of humans. That does not add up. How old are these undead?

“UGH!” Eve's outburst breaks you out of your thoughts. “I thought we'd be done. Who the fuck is that fruitcake?”

You look up. Striding out of the hobgoblins' vanguard is a man wearing very gaudy, black armor with a skull on its front. A horned helmet masks his face and he carries a large sword. He stands at the center of the formation of burly skeletons. He seems to gaze at your group, still as a statue for a long moment.

Then, almost mechanically, he begins to stride towards you, his cadre of skeletons accompanying him. You're pretty sure Ed whimpers.

Gabby stands tall and readies herself. “Alright boys and girls. Looks like it's time to fuck up The Master.”

Quissonce looks at Gabby, puzzled. “Are you sure that's him?”

“Look at how that faggot is dressed. Of course it's him.”

Quissonce shrugs. “Well Eve and I are out of everything.”

“Pull back,” Kyra speaks. “Backup incoming.”
>>
As if on cue Dolah practically rushes into you. She takes a quick scan of you all before talking. “I apologize for being late. There was a very powerful devil in the sewers.” Funny, Dolah doesn't smell like she just came from a sewer. She points at the armored man striding towards you still. “That person is very evil.”

“Thanks pal,” Gabby replies sarcastically. “Really wasn't sure about that one. I was having a moral quandary about the whole situation.”

“Stop bantering.” Rowe states. “Start fighting.” She looses three arrows at The Master, but one of the big skeletons gets in the way and takes the onslaught of her attack, crumpling into a pile of bones. The Master simply walks through his deceased minion, crushing the skull under his booted heel.

You channel your last burst, leaving you bone dry of divine favor.

You eke out enough magical scraps from your blood to strengthen your muscles, leaving you bone dry of spells.

So unless you want to try giving this guy the touch and hoping he learns the importance of friendship or a better aesthetic, you're going to have to fight him the old-fashioned way.

>Draw your saber for this, full SCHWING
>Stick with your fists

AND

>Fight him head on
>Let Dolah do that, sneak attack
>Wrestle him to the floor with Gabby's aid then coup de grace
>Something else? (write-in)

And roll me 2d100, best of 3.

I just had an extremely melancholy dream.

I will spare you many of the dumb details, but essentially I was a Obrimos Mage of great power in our world. Being fed up with our society, I used my powers to leave forever. However just before I left I dreamed about going through my home, through all my physical possessions and memories, taking only what I would need for my journey across the stars. Leaving behind wealth, even furniture that I have made myself in woodshop class and gifts given to me because they weren't practical and then I finally flew away from it all, flying out of Earth into space to become an interstellar traveler, never to return.

Needless to say, this gave me a lot of feels. But basically I ask you, have you every empathized with a character who left everything they had behind to go on a grand quest or journey?

Hi everyone, Me and my group have played D&D and WOD but we had always the problem of the gamemaster so now I'm searching some game where there are only players. I know there was but I never tried anything, some suggestion?

Cant recall a game like that.

However. Depending on the maturedness of your group you could always stay with WOD and dont use GM.

Imagine: You create your own character and 7 other NPCs (vamp or not) that are important to the city. If you feel you dont have enough vamps just roll up a few more. Collaborate with the other players to create an interesting city with detailed locations to play in.
Now make sure your characters arent new vamp but at the very least ancillae.
Have an ambition for you char (no " i just want to be left alone" vamps possible.
Players not in a scene play the npcs. If the players are divided on if an npc would do that or not flip a coin.

Tell us how it went.

No. If I'm running a game then it's up to the players to tell me what to do better. I don't care what some third party thinks of it, it's the players who are the ones important.

Didn't see one of these made but highly interested in a format that doesn't cost a fortune to play.

Should I invest in Online or Paper pauper? I do not currently have any friends that will play with me (married, 31, work night shift), and the varied ruleset in paper is annoying, I wouldn't know what to buy do that I could play a local pauper player.

Does this make MTGO the only choice for me? Buying digital cards seems ridiculous, but not any more than cheap plastic cards I suppose. I really wanted to make cheap decks of each archetype (RDW, Stompy, Mono Black Control, etc) but some of these are quite expensive for me (top tier Mono Black is around 115 bucks.).

MTGO or Paper? Where are some good cheap pauper decks?

Last Time, on Song of Swords:

Germanic vs Scandinavian Names
There is no hope left in man
Historical carriage prices
Lore!

Song of Swords is a realistic fantasy tabletop RPG that draws inspiration from historical fechtbuchs, weapons and armor. Its combat system is fast and it can be used for both fantasy and historical/mundane settings.

Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

Here's a .rar archive with the newest version of the rules as well as all related current working documents. At this time the latest version is v1.9.9:

Here's Ballad of the Laser Whales' latest version: [Redacted-see next post]

Here's a wiki detailing SoS's fantasy setting, getting filled up bit by bit as Jimmy reveals more details:

There's also a roll20 room where new players are encouraged to try the rules, test new rules, and find game breaking issues: https://app.roll20.net/join/346755/hRKd4w
The room might be empty, but the people who teach the game still browse the thread frequently. If you're looking to learn, post here in the thread. We also play Guy Windsor's card game Audatia in the room.

It's traditional.

Welcome to the Accidental Magical Girl thread!

Various worlds and multiverses have become connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!

>This is NOT a greentext adventure style CYOA with one GM and thread posting to dictate the adventure, but rather a hub thread for multiple storycrafters to use.
A majority of activity (including campaigns) instead happens in the IRC, which is open for newbies to join.
Characters can be rolled with either the CYOA's purple PDF which is intended as a writing prompt and is in the process of developing an independent auxiliary combat system, or AMGC's blue pdf which contains combat rules for PNP campaigns along with the rolls.

Post builds, roleplay, write stuff.

In a bait thread this needless, it's not the die that roll.

Friend, did you think the t in /tg/ stood for DnD? Other tabletop systems and traditional games do exist.
>>
My groupd play by point buy
79 points to spend
an class level cost 3 points
each stat point before modifier cost 1 point.

You must have at least 3 on a stat, before modifier.
you must have at least 1 on some class

PS: remember that having 3 on some stat cost, 3 and not 0
>>
Rolled stats is a relic of a stupid, arbitrary past. It was never a good idea, it isn't a good idea, and I'm glad that the vast majority of games are abandoning it.

Actually, I'll make one exception. Rolled stats is fine in comedy games where your stats don't mean anything anyway. Maid RPG is the only game which I know of that makes rolled stats add to the experience, rather than just being annoying.

And proper Slavic military operation runs on cursing. Gunfire and tanks only accentuate certain phrases, and the enemy serves as a target and catalyst for them, but this is purely backdrop to the litany of obscenities that begins in the barracks and ends in a coffin.
I imagine that would only increase when transported to ye olden days, since without radio communication one often needed to be louder than the battle itself to convey one's meaning.
>>
>>46218510
The slavic-inspired kingdom (Knezdom) here is fighting a constant incursion and raids of tolkien orc like creatures, and have a culture built around that conflict,

the Knez is the autohtarian leader here, who is allso the military commander, below him are Vojvodas (Generals) and Glavars (captains),
each Glavar has a few hundred men under him,
and i'd like to ask how a wall of rogatinas (russian bear hunting spears) would look like in a military scenario
>>
>>46218553
>how a slavic phalanx would sound like,
Like a Scandinavian shield wall, most likely.
Possibly with more archers in support.

i have this guy who plays a drow warlock in a 5e game im DMing. its everybody's first tabletop rpg including me and we are pretty early in the campaign. Anyway, the handbook says that the patron requires the warlock to preform favors in exchange for continued use of its powers. the players are about to reach level 2 and this player chose the great old ones "Cthulhu specifically" as his patron. my question is what would he ask of him in exchange for lending him his power? and would a elder god really personally ask a novice warlock for said favors?

if it was a fiend patron then i would have a easier time coming up with sinister requests and demonic ways of communicating them. to give a little context , the character is a 19 year old drow from the underdark with a criminal background , he was a enforcer for his gang and his parents were assassinated for political gain reasons. he left the underdark later for reasons he has yet to make clear. The group started causing trouble at a tavern in the first session. things escalated, they killed a couple of guards, and now they are wanted criminals.(not what i expected but i rolled with it).

the rest of the party consists of a silver dragonborn barbarian, a tiefling bard, a human ranger, and a new player is joining us next session on friday as a half elf "drow" sorcerer. i would appreciate any suggestions.

Well the stories always have a large emphasis on the insanity, the elder god cultists, and the mystery of the items/effects/places. A low level favor could be something as simple as converting someone else, ritually sacrificing and animal/person. Higher level, or if you have time for one such ark, might be recovering some artifact of note, such as a cults shrine or prayer idol.
>>
>>46218527
The animal sacrifice sounds good actually, but how would he receive the message? would Cthulhu deliver it himself or maybe a lesser being that serves him would. i was thinking of having the player see hallucinations in the next mirror he comes by. and have his reflection tell him.
>>
>>46218616
Dreams, or similarly unconscious revelations are a strong motif. while sleeping is always a good idea, or possibly after having exerted himself you could have him temporarily pass out and receive the message then. I'm not too read up on my lovecraft, but I can't remember many lesser beings other than cultists.

It literally never pays off when I try it.

By not trying at all, my deck will most of the time feed me something useful, though.

Well, there was one time I was in a duel where we were both tied to bombs, which were rigged to explode and kill whoever lost. I needed to win in order to restore not only the stolen soul of my grandpa, but also a slew of other hostages.
Thankfully, I drew the exact card I needed to win, and I escaped while my opponent failed to activate the secret safety switch and ended up dying.

When it came to believing in the Heart of the Cards, it helps when you've got a lot on the line.

What if the way metamagic worked was through its own spells? For example, you might cast the spell "still spell", which would have a verbal component but not a somatic component, and then the next spell you cast after that could be cast without its somatic component?

I think it'd be a nice way to keep the flexibility that metamagic allows, but giving it a more direct cost than just "take this feat and you can cast magic without wiggling your fingers".

If we were to use this in the context of overcharged spells in 5th edition, maybe you would get +1 spell affected per higher spell level, so that way you could cast a silent, stilled spell, but it'd be more costly.
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>46211938
I think this was how AD&D did it.

For 5e, you could just have metamagic spells each be special bonus action spells that can be cast in the same round as cantrip spells.

Or standard action spells that have the wording "you cast a spell you have prepared that is X level lower than the spellslot this spell is cast with" or something like that.
>>
>>46211938
