The most common method of becoming a vampire requires one to be at risk of being in thrall to the vampire who turned you.
Obviously, a mage that powerful would put contingencies in place, but it's a hell of a liability.

So, astral perception: I get the living stuff = aura, nonliving/cybered=hazy, in my head it looks a bit like Predator thermal vision but trippier. Also, I get that mundane stuff in astral takes a -2 DP, but is there mundane info I could glean in astral from the physical world?

It'd make more sense if you only have the powers as long as the magical creature/plants is in your system. Then part of the fun is timing it so that you have the powers last long enough for whatever purpose you need them for.
Then magic powers are rationed into multiple meals and are finite.

Nah, If magical energy is being gained from breaking down the creature in your body, it makes just as much sense that you'd retain the energy as long as no other biological process is expending it.

Yeah i'm not sure myself. I'm a pretty big PC enthusiast and I've spent quite a bit of $$ on it and it's related systems (tri monitor setup @ 1440p with bezel less monitor, dual titans, etc.)
but i look into trying out warhammer, and the cost of entry seems so unreal. hundreds of dollars for figures. Not to mention, i don't even care to paint them, but i guess it's frowned upon to not paint them.

Briefly my own, I'm more interested in other people's experiences. I started playing right at the end of 2nd edition. By around 2003, the prices had been jacked up, the older people were leaving the hobby and being replaced by adolescents, the fluff was bowlderized, the specialist games were put out to pasture, and... yeah, I had enough.
All I can do is laugh when I look at 40k today. I am hoping there are still groups out there who exclusively play 2nd and 3rd edition.
Played back in late 90s to very early 2000s. Don't play anymore but do enjoy the schadenfreude watching GW crash and burn.
I'm always amazed when I see kids around here trying to say $100 for thee models isn't that expensive.
Adjusted for inflation, the price of a box of ten space marines has not increased in over ten years, and the quality has grown by a very huge amount.
But guardsmen are 50% more expensive and still use the same shitty old kit.
