What will a setting based on 4chan or general imageboard culture be like?
lots of small shabby huts with lonely people sequestered behind drawn blinds. the streets are empty but eyes and lips can be seen peeking through the slatted windows looking for something they've never known and bitterly mocking the pathetic state of their neighbors.

so me and my friend are in a bit of a kerfuffle over whether or not necromancy is inherently evil or just another energy source. I'm in the camp of it being evil as it appears to draw energy from pain suffering and just general evil acts also pretty much all undead are listed as having an evil alignment (yes i use alignments in my games b4 "alignmets=shit setting). while my friend argues that it is not and is simply energy he quotes non evil liches as being in forgotten realms (i honestly dont know enough about settings to debate this) and clerics and paladins being...

4chan will probably come down on the 'its evil' because either the energy it uses is fundamentally evil in some way or because all undead are in some way entrapping the soul of the being reanimated but like everything it ultimately depends on the setting. There a other ways to contextualize necromancy that makes it neutral or even good (if you think in terms of the dead coming willingly to aid the living like the Eldar in 40K)

Can DW be explained to new RPG players in about 20 minutes? That's probably the attention span I'm going to get before people get bored and leave.
Do you spend a lot of time chatting, cracking jokes and bantering in your group when you play, or do you focus purely on the roleplaying?
My group tends to get distracted by tangents such as the utility of the raspberry pi to hacking, the weight of muons, whether it's possibly to accidentally invent a parachute in a medieval setting, etc.
Kind of like /tg/ threads, really.

No? The fun in RPGs for me is entirely in roleplaying. I get fucking pissed whenever people go off on tangents. If I wanted to do other things, I would do other things.
Some offtops now and then are normal and unavoidable. But they do ruin the atmosphere and good gm should try to keep them at minimum. I ussually punish players that offtop too much with exp penalty and give additional exp to those that roleplay well. Howewer the most important thing is gm skill to fully draw players' attention to the session. For example recently I ran a horror one shot which went surprisingly good and I managed to create such a good atmosphere that all the players were completely focused on the game, there was litterally no offtops.

What kind of unit types would you see in an early modern battlefield? Think 1500's era.
I'm working on a game and I'm wanting to distinguish between say halberdiers and firearm infantry but I'm not looking for the level of detail of german vs english halberdiers.

Well as far as I know you had infantry using polearma together with musketeers who shot in barrages.
Later everything got more integrated leading to pike and shot and after that to bayonetted riflemen.

Pikemen is the new best thing around that era with people who use firearms (the type of firearms is changeing through the century)
You still have a lot of cavalry but as pikemen became more and more widespread they lose their importance (but never disappear)
You also have swordsmen/halberdiers and such, they are basically what protecting the banners/flanks etc.
And you have artillery, pretty important stuff.
This is the very basics but of course the precise setup was different in every country.
