Holy shit, how do I make dungeons interesting?
I'm going to DM for the first time (5e) and I just realized I don't know how to create dungeons.

The players were going to explore an abandoned mine in the forest filled with low level tree monsters to find out what's awakening them. Except it's fucking boring. What do I do?

>>
Throw an NPC in that offers them a crazy choice so the PC's need to discuss it thoroughly
>>
>>46657853
Your mine isn't just straight tunnels, is it?

Try thowing in some caverns, waterfalls, staircases, rope bridges, abandoned machinery, unexploded explosives, cave fish, artificial crevices for workers to run to when using explosives, old lamps, that sort of thing.
>>
>>46657853
Think about how the trees could be strange/creepy.

Think about why the mine was abandoned.

Look up pics on google image like the one in your OP, use those for scenes.

What is the most disturbing thing Dark Eldar ever done? So far they seem to just be worse Chaos they keep yapping about how good they are at spreading fear and torturing but there is nothing to back it up and I really doubt they can inflict more pain than Fabius Bile. Shit race.

Well there's the anti-warp device powered by screaming tortured psyker souls, and the time a haemonculus flayed a noble, cut them apart, brought them back to life, nailed their bits to the ceiling and forcibly kept them alive as a sack of meat in constant agony. That was fun.
>>
>>46657564
Fabulous Bill was trained by them
>>
They fixed the Golden Throne. That's not that disturbing in itself, but they're going to come collecting at one point.

Why do elves generally use bows rather than something like boomerangs as their staple weapon? It's kinda perfect for elves, solid and heavy wooden weapon, always comes back, able to drop an elk at 100 yards in the hands of the right person.

Boomerangs are fairly terrible weapons, and this is from someone who thinks that boomerangs are neat.

>always comes back
If you think that all boomerangs always come back, or ones designed to hunt game are the same as returning boomerangs, then I don't think you understand much of anything about them.

Anyways, the reason that elves generally use bows is Tolkien. A more general reason is that bows are a common war weapon, and so to use something effective, elves use bows. Halflings typically have training in slings, after all, but nobody in their right mind bothers with slings past the first few levels. Even the +1 to hit isn't going to convince someone to use an extremely worse weapon.

Previously you rescued the Dryad in distress, Ay'ia, from a group of mercenaries trying to claim a bounty on her head for attempting to protect her grove from deforestation. You agreed to host her trees aboard your ship for the time being.

You later made it to the city-state of Ao, finding a small tent city with many dissidents. Including E.L.F., a group of unruly extra-species men and women demanding equal rights and the release of their kind from servitude. Despite their unreasonable demands to raze the city, you managed to recruit some of their number.

Once inside the city you met the mysterious twins, Rei and Kei, who are attempting to meet with the governor in attempts to negotiate the end of the slave trade in Ao. You agreed to help, but you're unsure of how to, exactly.

Welcome back to Beast in the Sky Quest!

So, you have several choices on how to make it into the governor's heavily-guarded palace. You thought of possibly asking around the local trader's guild, possibly meeting some of your old contacts if they're around.

Ruul suggested taking the sewers; that's how people sneak into everywhere, isn't it?

Rei & Kei recommended looking around the Red Light District for info, as anything seedy is bound to have someone helpful.

You also mulled around the idea of disguising yourself as Navy soldiers and simply waltzing in the front door, as risky as that is, the military always commands respect anywhere in Prism.

>Head to the trader's guild.

Best to know the legal ways before trying anything more shady. Plus, they might tell us of a nice brothel to go to.

It's a fun place, lots of trades, and traders. Maybe we could attach ourselves to some delegation going to meet the Governor.

It's likely that if they were quality they would have been recognized as such.
That said, I've considered the same sort of concept, as I'm drveloping as a programmer.
More as an experiment than anything else, probably end up being cheap as fuck.

I'm currently working on an official write-up for the Virtuamancer, the Adept School based on playing occult-influenced video games and inflicting game rules on the real world. Two questions:

1.) Is there a better name for the Virtuamancer? I considered "Ludomancer" but that to me feels like it would be more about game theory. One thing I considered is "Virtual-Shaman", since the whole idea of the school is using games to access an altered state of perception and reality

2. I want a more symbolic name for the altered games that Virtuamancers chase after and use to charge up. In my initial write-up I just called them Lesser Games and Great Games, but that's pretty bland. Any ideas?

Dixit, Hanabi, & Citadels. (I've also got Telestrations & Code Names but haven't played them yet.)

>> What's your secret 'guilty pleasure' - what game do you like even if you know it isn't really a game with good mechanics?

Talisman - mainly for sentimental reasons (played it a lot with friends decades ago in college). Or "Kittens in a Blender" - it's OK mechanically, but the whole goal of the game is to 'Blend' other player's kittens for points while protecting your own. It's sort of a kids game for amoral children...

>> OK, if you're actually in the mood for a strategy game - what's your favorite?

Neuroshima Hex, several 'Space 4x' games, and multiple war games.

Never "not in the mood".

> What's your secret 'guilty pleasure' - what game do you like even if you know it isn't really a game with good mechanics?
Can't really think of anything right now.

> OK, if you're actually in the mood for a strategy game - what's your favorite?
Caylus, probably, real meaty, if a bit outdated. Needs a graphic overhaul.
