Cool rain droplets pitter and patter across your face. You can’t remember the last time you’d jogged for fun, if you ever had to begin with. But it feels good, better than you’d expect. You let your power out from its subconscious pen, and feel each stride become more measured, more efficient. It’s exhilarating, a rush you don’t think you’ll ever get fully used to. You round the corner and find yourself on your block before ten minutes had passed. Waiting for the walk signal, you check your phone: 7:09pm. A little icon flashed below it with the 12 hour weather forecast. Rain. Big shocker, that. The light turns, and you jog across the shining asphalt.
7:09. 7:10 by now. That meant you had at least two hours before you had to leave for Gordo’s place, two and a half if you wanted to give off a chill, unhurried vibe. You stalled, jogging in place on the corner in front of your apartment, wondering what to do with that time, besides the half our so it would take to preen and primp.

“Man, look at us.” Mendicant laughs, idly inspecting his sword as the four of you—you and he alongside Ayla and Sven—make your way back through the Averron city streets toward the fortune teller’s tent. It’s strangely quiet as of now. “All responsible, and stuff. It’s like the fate of the world rests in our hands.”
“Do you guys ever shut up?” Ayla says, penning something in her UI. “I’ll be celebrating the day everyone in your guild gets over themselves.”
“Chill, girl.” Mendicant raises an eyebrow. “Florica’s gone, you know—and she’s not all that bad once you get to know her. I think the two of you just got off on the wrong foot.”
“Been a while since I’ve heard more of an understatement.” Sven says. “In my opinion, everyone involved in this whole needs to chill a little. I don’t want to be a downer about this but there’s no way we can resolve this merger if everyone involved keeps acting like children.”
“You can say that again.” Mendicant laughs. “Liza’s done a pretty good—“
“She’s not exempt. All of us would be in a better place if she’d dial it back a notch.” Sven responds.
“-That- is an overstatement.” Another elaborate brandish, then Mendicant sheathes his sword at his side. “Anaximander would have had his guild doing all the same stuff regardless of who was there to oppose him. If she didn’t step in to challenge him, or have the rest of the guild take on the rioters in the streets, things would actually be a lot worse. There might not even be any Averron left.”

If you’ve been reading the forums, you’d know by now that he’s left someone else in charge of his guild.” Picking up his pace to get ahead of the group, Sven turns to face the three of you and speaks with a flourish, arms outstretched. “It stands to reason that means his way wasn’t working out, right?”
You’d tell him there’s almost no chance that Anaximander is actually done for, but you don’t want to be the contrary one right now. And you’re still possessed with more questions about the new leader, Freya: who is she, how powerful is she, and can she be reasoned with? Is the situation with Freakshow even actionable? And what would happen if you were to simply leave – that is, depart into the underground alone in search of greener pastures?
The fact that such a thought sounds even remotely inviting is, to say the least, troublesome.
The whole business of the Alliance has left you in a difficult place. You aren’t sure whose side you’re on, or if you necessarily even want to be on anyone’s side. Ayla would have you believe that Liza is using you – first as a vote of confidence from the guildless, then as an expendable in dangerous affairs. Meanwhile, Liza seems to regard you earnestly, keeping you informed at every turn. Even in the worst possible case, the Guardians still consider you an asset, or an unpredictable vector. You can use that to your advantage.

The eradication of the Marlo Pirates is the first, and perhaps the most important, step to inspiring resistance support along the coastline, and Dyrus has already personally been there to ensure they're about halfway there! Warping away from the Northernmost island was a bit headache-inducing for Rene and the rest, but it's beat out by a longshot by the dryness of the desert. Soon they'll be approaching the border, and there's nothing anyone's been able to do to convince Marion to turn back around. That same forest that previously housed the Tyarm Bandits is host to a much more pleasant stroll the second time through.
