There's a lot of "/tg/ rolls up a Space Marine Chapter" threads that pop up, and while they're fun, there's a shit ton of Chapters that have next to no fluff already in the canon. So I thought it might be fun to fluff some of these chapters out. Its a good place to kick around those half-baked ideas you've had for a chapter, or if you want to come up with something new. Hell, you could even use the tables to quickly get some ground fluff out if you want. A good number of these Chapters are literally just a name with nothing attached, so there's plenty of room for creativity!

So, we could roll for what chapter we fluff on a list I made, or just choose based on color scheme/name, and fluff accordingly. I figured a good guide-line for what to write about them would be:
>Origins
>demeanor/culture/beliefs
>combat doctrine
>strength
>enemies

While I think it would be fun to work on a chapter as a thread up to the point that we feel its fleshed out, there's nothing stopping you from posting an idea of your own for a different chapter.

I thought a good chapter to start with would be the Golden Halos, since they have a pretty okay color scheme, and just enough background to work around. Here's basically all that's known about them:

>The Golden Halos' banner has flown above many a battlefield. Most notably it witnessed the Chapter's victories at Kistvaen, Podzul and the decade-long Siege of Nectocalyx, which was more commonly known as "The Meatgrinder."
>Their motto Ex Ungue Leonem ("Judge the lion by his claws") reveals their proud martial tradition.

So they're canonical badasses with a long history of military achievements. I feel like being a fleet based chapter would work for these guys

Here's the list of chapters that I compiled, if anyone's interested. I know its a lot (193, I think), but I'm by no means saying we should do all of them. Just whatever anyone feels like

Since they are said to be in numerous battles, and seem to be well venerated, maybe second or third founding would work for them. Doing generic space knights doesn't seem very fun, could be something like a mix between Papal Zouaves and French Foreign Legion, since, as a fleet based chapter, they would have to recruit from all over to maintain their ranks?

If we do go with fleet based, we could have them like the black templars, where they're technically on a crusade, so they can have more than the standard thousand marines, although it wouldn't be by much. Maybe 2000?

Cool name for a class of Magic-User focused on healing/repairing + buffing?

Alchemist - too broad / not necessarily a healer
Doctor - semi-modern-sounding, resonates scientifically
Druid - do lots of things other than healing under most every definition
Healer - too generic / broad
Witch Doctor - little too voodoo

Sup /tg/, total rpg noob here

Just bought this. Any D&D guys who could tell me what other books and minis that i should buy to complete it? Thanks.

The Starter Set is a good all-in-one for starting. If you want to move on from it, I suggest buying at least the Player's Handbook and maybe the Monster Manual. The Dungeon Master's Guide is nice as well, but not necessarily required.
>>
>>47647359
I've been wondering about DnD myself. Are minis needed or are they just a means of keeping track of where everything is(like can I use anything to represent them because I'm a cheapass)?
>>

You need to grab a decryption key as well so you can read stat blocks properly.

Can we have a good ol' fashioned Games Workshop hate thread?
Share stories from times in store, annoying players and staff members, your problems with how the place is run, your thoughts on the drop in quality in all aspects of their games, how you took out several loans to fund your hobby then had your legs broken by debt collectors before you decided to quit.

Games Workshop apologists not welcome.

Is there any system that is good for a High-Fantasy RPG full of battles and still have a more free magic system like Mage: The Ascension?

Is Exalted something like that?

Savage Worlds, GURPS.
>>
>>47646577
How Savage Worlds work in terms of magic?

Also, do you know if Exalted is what I'm looking for?
>>
>>47646577

Agree w/ GURPS for this. Use Dungeon Fantasy and add the material in Ritual Path Magic. Done.

So there's a pretty common idea that Dragons can breath fire through some kind of biological napalm, but what about White Dragons? Is there some kind of biological way to spit something that freezes things?

Also post other ice monsters.

It'd need to internally create two chemicals that have an endothermic (exothermic? I can never remember which of the two means "sucks up heat") reaction when mixed, store them separately in its body, then spit both at once. Kind of like a frosty version of the bombardier beetle.

The time has finally come - your small conglomerate of audacious fools has daringly transversed the dankest darkness of the very veil that separates our world from the realm of darkness. Deranged cultists, otherwordly shadows and nightmares beyond imagination have been slain by your unflinching hand - and now your greatest enemy lies before you, the eldritch abomination of unimaginable power. But beware, for the one who delivers the decisive blow to this monstrosity shall share it's fate, for his very soul will be obliterated - no heavenly reward will await him beyond death, but inescapable horror stretching beyond the exctinction of the last star.

This is the only way. Do you have the strength to do what must be done?

Hey /tg/, this is just something that's been rattling around my head for a while.

I'm sorta forced for work to be involved in social media, so I see a LOT of D&D stuff every day, mostly people talking about their group, their games, etc.

Now here's my question: I see TONS of people coming off a recent session being like "Holy fuck that was awesome! Best night ever we killed some goblins!" or some other shit like that. Basically, just the act of doing mundane RPG stuff or fighting an enemy from the monster manual is enough to blow their mind. I see people talking about how tense things are in the middle of fighting a...I dunno, ogre or something? Whatever.

Here's why this is weird: I have never seen this. In my life.

I've been playing RPGs for nearly 15 years now and never once have I seen people get that excited during or after a game, no matter how dramatic or down-to-the-wire or whatever the actual session is. I've barely ever seen players seem somewhat interested in what's going on around them (regardless of the group or who is DMing).

Why is this? Am I just missing something here? This makes no sense to me.

I have a theory about stuff like this that basically boils down to how much exposure someone has to the medium.

If you're in your first game ever with your first character, stuff is new and exciting. However, if you have been playing 3 different campaigns a week for years. Most stuff is going to seem mundane because, eh, characters come and go.
>>
>>47644829
Sure, and it's a theory that makes sense, but it brings an important question;

If players who have experience are, "jaded" for lack of a better description, is there ever a reason to play with people like that?

I mean, what good reason might I have to slave away creating a compelling narrative, trying to build tense and exciting scenes, or weave character-building drama for people if the response is a resounding "Eh."?

By and large, experienced players are not better roleplayers despite what conventional wisdom might suggest, so is it worth it?
>>
>>47644829
this is some to do with it, it can also have to do with specific personalities, some people may be very excited but not show it, or only get very enthusiastic in retrospect while they're relatively unphased by events as they happen.

I know I've not played a large number of games, but the retelling of events is much more energizing than they were to play, even when the playing of them did genuinely interest me. having a story, even if it's about some stupid monster manual encounter can make it better.

First one, because old clans are shitty shit. Also, fucking elders and metaplot.

I've not played either, but I have read the core books for both. In my opinion, Requiem has a better-organized rulebook, but Masquerade has options that are more fun.

Could a setting where everything is Earth-sized except for a race of 40 foot tall elves produce enough food to feed the 40 foot tall elves without starving everything else on the planet, or would you necessarily need megaflora/fauna to support them?
320 posts and 47 images submitted.
>>
>>47681253
You certainly need to magnify the scale at wich we function, wich means higher quantities of oxigen and food.

So yes, Megafauna and flora are AN answer, but maybe you would have to add things like low birth rate and populations, being secluded to places with a certain athmospheric pressure and such.

[/spoiler] Mirage a Cute
>>
In a high fantasy world, not necessarily.

Maybe the giant race are quasi-elemental or innately magical, not requiring sustenance in the traditional way.
>>
>>47681253
Depends on the population size and metabolisms of the giants. I presume scarcity of resources would lead to pretty small populations requiring large territories. Of course, something fairly fantastic is probably going on to have land mammals of such scale (just look at the resource problems creatures like elephants or tigers have, and they're a fraction the size), so you can probably hand-wave anything you like.
