Working on developing and GMing a quasi-campaign of one-shots, in which each session is a different set of characters on a different side or front of WWII. Individual characters would be left up to the players, but what would be some interesting settings, mission ideas, or perspectives in the war to explore in such a series of one-shots?

Additionally, any recommendations on what system could be best used for such a setting/combat.

OP, forgot to mention some current ideas I had for such perspectives.

>British commandos on St. Neivelle Raid
>French or German tank crew during the invasion of France
>German or Soviet tank crew at Kursk
>Soviet or German squad at Stalingrad
>American or Japanese aviators at Midway
>American paratroopers during D-Day
>etc.

Do a three part game. First game or so is the germans rolling up the eastern front before they get bogged down, marauding and fucking up villages. Second game is as the red army pushing back towards berlin, vengeance and comrades. Third game is as american GIs cleaning up the mess in eastern germany, eventually having to decide what to do with some of the 1st game's germans as POWs being contested by the 2nd game's russians.
>>
>>47673834
Like that idea, though how would the third one work, I was under the impression GIs kept to the western half aside from Berlin, though I cuold easily see a scenario playing out in Berlin where the German POWs get into the American sector and they need to decide what to do with them.

Instead of the usual Warhammer question of "who would you cast to make a Horus Heresy movie", who would you cast and hire to direct/write a movie for the The War of the Jewels, the great war between Good and Evil in the First Age? Who could successfully write and shoot Fingolfin's glorious duel with Morgoth?

I wouldn't, and nobody.
There's just too much there to do it justice in a movie.
>>
>>47673148
You could always make a cartoon I guess. Or just a really long movie series that would be on a level of scale similar to the old 50's movies that took small city's worth of people to make.
>>
>>47673117
You wouldn't ideally, but if you were forced to...
Gut Jackson on a pike, hire John Millus to direct the Screenplay. Morgoth would be Hafþór Björnsson decked out in full armor and voiced by Fred Tatasciore. No idea who would play Fingolfin.

So how is this game /tg/? Any good?

It's like DND 5e with Multiclassing built in.
With dark body horror tones to it's setting.

I really like it and want to run it instead of 5e for my home campaign taking out some of the "edgy" parts of it.
>>
>>47672263
So-so.
The setting could use some work, it tries a little bit too hard here and there.
>>
>>47672263
From what I've played, it's pretty good. Like >>47672982 said, there are a lot of instances where the game "tries a little bit too hard", especially with the Forbidden Magics. But other than that it's fun.

Alright.

I know imperial guard had plasma pistols at some point and I'm starting the long progress of equipping my guard with plasma after hearing its become useful again.

Problem is, Games workshop only has plasma guns on their site.

Is there another kit?

Hey fa/tg/uys,

So I've been working on a DnD campaign where instead of magic being used in spells or casting in the traditional sense, all magic is bardic, think Brutal Legend from 2009.

While I really like the idea of people using electric guitars and basses to turn goblins into mush, I'm not sure how to categorize the magics.

I've thought to put attack magic with guitars, buffs on bass/singing, debuffs on drums, and rituals to be done in a "performance".

Would it instead be better to make Wizard/Warlock/Sorcerer/Bard spells into the instruments, however?

I also added WW1 era weaponry and 40k ork esque vehicles, so they have a primitive, yet potent ability. How would I keep that balanced with swords and sorcery? I'm thinking to use the 40k rules for vehicles, but with a d20.

Just use Dark Heresy 2.0 rules for the combat. Melee is very viable.

When is it time to reward the players with magical items?

How do you choose what magical item to give?

Why do you give away magical items?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I do one of three things, depending on the campaign I'm in

Method 1:
-Place magic items on key villains and in treasure piles in the dungeon. Roll on charts for which items are there.

Method 2:
-Assume magic stores exist or private enchanters can be purchased for their services. Effectively let PCs choose their own shit, primarily give away gold as treasure.

Method 3:
-Every magic item is story related, work with each player to figure out which items they want, and decide general ideas on how we want to fit it into the story.

With which style I use largely depending on the type of campaign it is and the system. For example, casual Pathfinder I'd use Method 2, 5e I'd use Method 1, actual story campaign I'd use Method 3.

Hope that helps.

Any post helps my man.

Gonna do all three.

Or at least, I have a couple questions about the system that maybe someone knows.

1) I see Gifts for being a magic apprentice, and a spell list, but no mention anywhere of how to actually learn or cast spells.

2) I also can't seem to find consolidated Grappling rules. There's a bare mention of it (that the weapon used to grapple can't be used for anything else during, and that you can't move until you aren't being grappled), but there doesn't seem to be anything to it other than grab or not-grab. I ask because I've heard this system has really good grappling rules, but I can't find them.

And I suppose general Ironclaw Thread, if anyone has anything to say.

>1) I see Gifts for being a magic apprentice, and a spell list, but no mention anywhere of how to actually learn or cast spells.

The gifts provide the spells. You exhaust the gift to ready the spell into your hand/wand/rod, then an attack action to use it.

Lets take elemental apprentice (pg 84/85) as the example gift. At the bottom of the gift description is says X (Battle) Action "ready Elemental weapon"

At the bottom it lists several spells:
Create Air
Create Earth
Create Water
Ignite Fire
Move Air
Move Earth
Move Fire
Move Water

You take one action to choose one of those and ready it into your hand, rod or wand. This exhausts the gift of Elemental apprentice.
To actually use the spell, you then need to cast it at someone with an attack action. Page 99 shows what you roll to use those spells. Now you no longer have the spell ready to use

Since Elemental Apprentice is exhausted, you can't use it again until you refresh it. Since it's a battle refresh, this mean you just need to spend an action refreshing it.

Alright guys, I'm in need of some advice.

A close friend of mine is DMing a Witcher PNP RPG for me and two other guys, although one of them has been absent thus far.
First session went by relatively smoothly, at least I thought so, but at the end of the 2nd session I got into a pretty big argument with the DM over my character.
I'd made it very clear from the start that I wanted to make an assassin type character, but I didn't want him to be an actual fighter. I wanted him to be the kind of guy that sneaked into peoples' houses and cut their throats in their sleep, poisoned their drinks, or tricked people into dying in some other way. In other words, someone who kills, but doesn't fight.
I knew from the start that the DM wasn't exactly thrilled with this concept, but I'd misunderstood why. I thought he was just against me not having any combat skills, because he asked me multiple times if I was sure I didn't want to increase my Armed Combat score. (Due to all my previous characters being melee combatants, I vehemently refused this. I was, and still am, sick of it.)
But no, as I came to discover, he was very much against me playing such a clearly evil character. At the end of the 2nd session, he complained that I had just gone along with, and even helped further, the villains' plans by killing five guardsmen in the city we were in.
And it's not like I can't understand why this is frustrating for him. He clearly had something planned, and both me and the other guy - who, by the way, is generally passive when it comes to decisions, so he just follows me around and helps me out - are doing the exact opposite of what he wants us to do. He makes is fairly clear, at least usually, what we're supposed to be doing, but I have no in-character to go along with it.

Any advice, /tg/? DM still intends on continuing, but I don't know what good will come of it if he dislikes the characters as much as he does. It was fairly obvious he wasn't enjoying that session all that much.

Another thing: I don't understand why he would allow me to play this character if he was going to take issue with me basically doing exactly what I told him I was going to do.
He knew what my character was like, or so I thought, so I don't understand why he was surprised by my actions.
I'm guessing this is a case of miscommunication, but I don't want to give up on this character, and he doesn't want to give up on his chronicle/story.

>Play a setting in which primary characters are all involved in hunting monsters, killing people and generally getting in to fights
>Create a PC that wildly differs from what is expected of Witchers and what they do
>DM goes along a little bit while strongly suggesting you do things that will make your character stronger and more able to survive
>Create the character anyways against DM's subtle wishes and make him lolevil and retarded.
>Kill Guards in a city you were in and expect to get away wiht it.

My advice to you is to fuck off, leave the session. This thread is bait.
>>
>>47670006
My character isn't a Witcher.
And like I said, I made it very clear to the DM what my character was like before the first session. We even went through the process of how I accept new jobs and get payment through a third party, just so we were both aware of how it would be handled in gameplay.
