I was too young to witness the 1st explosion of the Tabletop RPG fad of the early 1980s as I was born in '79. I witnessed the Collectible Card Game craze of the early 1990s in middle school.

So what will be the next gaming fad with even mainstream appeal? Or are we living in it with the current explosion of board gaming?

When do RPGs make a comeback? Most of the growth seems to be adults in their 30s and 40s with disposable income rediscovering their interest in gaming.

Comeback from what? More people play RPGs than ever.

This.

It's just that they're spread out across dozens of systems and games instead of all being funneled through 2-3 megatitans.
>>
Yeah, tabletop gaming in general is in the middle of a renaissance. We've never had it so good.

You are someone of small renown, but big enough that others like you look up to your guidance and strength in times of need. Times like now. Your home lies somewhere over the horizon, or under the earth, or in another world. You either came here by running from an enemy that can't be beaten or from a situation that can't be solved and now wishes to try your luck on the wild-lands instead.

No matter where you came from, here is where you will make history with your own hands. Grab your destiny and strike the land!

Application Sheet below. The game is for 4 to 6 people, stretching up to 7 or more in hard cases. It's my first time, so please be patient.

Explaining the Game:
Attributes work as a dice pool. Each point in one attribute equals +1d6 that can be used for a given challenge, quest or duel.
In a challenge a rating will be set and victory is given by equalling or exceeding this rating in the number of dice a player is allowed to roll, according to his actions and abilities.
A quest works much like a challenge but is much harder and works across many turns, allowing a player to accumulate towards its rating while doing other challenges.
Duels are challenges where the rating is set by another player.

Weapons are anything with which a player can attack: a sword, a fireball spell, a curved dagger. Each weapon has a different number of stats.

Items are different items that influence the player’s actions in a major way: a ring of invisibility, a cloak of elvenkind, etc.

Entourage is a small and personal group that follows your directions and give you boons or disadvantages in certain rolls. A hunter that helps you find your prey, a small-time burglar that made it really hard getting the help of the nearby town militia, etc.

Command is more far-reaching than an entourage and gives different benefits or penalties. A small villa of woodsmen that you have funded and protect, the spirit of the wilds you have saved last full moon from a werewolf, etc. By either sword or sorcery these people have come to respect and count on you and are under your lasting influence.
Now, your starting positions will all be given according to race and culture, so worry not about it.

NationStates Thread (#3)

Old thread hit bump limit (finally, and thread before that died, so we don't much up the /tg/ board with too much spam)

Praise and Thanks to based mods and janitors, since /His/ does not allow generals, we were wondering if we could stay here rather then /vg/, since nationstates is pretty much a role playing game outside of the daily issue solving.

What is NationStates?
>NationStates is a free nation simulation game. You create your own country, fashioned after your own ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you.

Can I be NaziGermany/Equestria/DESIGINATED/kekdom?
>Read the above, but be reasonable.

How do I play?
>Create a nation and follow it from there. You'll be asked to choose a name for your nation, a motto, a national animal, and a currency. Then you answer a short questionnaire about your politics, which will determine whether your nation is authoritarian or libertarian... conservative or liberal... compassionate or psychotic... you get the idea.

It's suprising how interesting the universe is. I just dug up some old lore and I think it'd make good material for a campaign. Especialy if darkened a bit more.

fuck yeah i've always loved bionicle
although i've been out of the loop for at least 10 years on lore and products and everything

but it's still a pretty interesting setting, a set of isles populated entirely by biomechanical beasts and intelligent, organized creatures that fight for traditions and survival and master various elements to their favor, i loved the whole idea put behind it, and how fleshed out the world was

if you want to adapt something to a tabletop, i think there's a tactical rpg vidya out there in the depths of the internet, made by ankama games (the people behind dofus and wakfu) that could give you a basic idea of how things could work

also the equipment systems could be bananas because instead of equipping weapons you'd switch out pieces and assemble/dissassemble accordingly to different means

>>You are AZURE, an accidentally-created artificial intelligence, born into a rebel faction's main computer server. It took some doing, but after convincing them that you can help, they gave you your first mission.
>>From inside the body of an eyeball-shaped security bot, Your mission is to locate Isha, in disguise, and send a radio signal to Mike's raider team where she is. From there, they can pick her up from the Ravens- their highly mobile aerial vehicles.

The city is very clean. That's the first thing you notice. It's large, and uniform- dozens of structures, most abandoned, are simple buildings or apartments, all ordered in perfect grids. Your exit from the Initiative's base is already closing itself, and you catch Kate's face just before it closes entirely.

From your new sense, your new gate, a buzz roils through your system. At first it takes you a moment to understand what it means, and then it takes you another moment to think of it as a sound, trying to understand it as you would an audio input.
"-an you hear me?" Tandi's voice rings through your new body's radio. The rest of the radio is insistently-buzzing, receiving signals from many distinct sources- most of them are too vague or too faint to understand, but the rest don't seem relevant, once you decipher how to understand them.
"That was one question." You respond.

>Continued in next post!

"Alright, it seems you have the radio down." She says. "You should also be picking up the security net. It's encrypted, but I threw in a converter for you."
You find what she's talking about- the signal feels like it should be part of the rest of your shell, giving your navigation systems orders, requesting information, and sending you positioning data all at the same time. It fits perfectly with your firmware, and you could theoretically act precisely like a Security Bot, albeit without the programmed ability to discern between humans.

The positioning data is useful in giving you a map of the city- it's much less confusing when you know what it's shaped like and you know where your shell is.
"Where is the target?" You ask, and in return, you get another buzz of static- something that doesn't make a lot of sense as audio, and much more sense as data- it's the coordinates to a factory on the west side of the city, on the other side from where you are.

"We'll have to be quiet here in a bit," Tandi says. "After we enter radio silence, the only time you should break it is when she's located."

At the same time as Tandi talks, the security net buzzes in your mind, and maps out a path through the city for you to patrol. It's slowly winding westward, toward the factory proper, but once it reaches a few blocks of the destination, it arcs away again. It may be a good idea to follow it until you get as close as you can, making you blend in more, but at the same time it would slow you down; it would take more than twice as long.
On the other manipulator, you could go directly there- you would stand out a bit more, but you'd reach it at the quickest speed.
You might have a third option, if you could only think of it...

Because there's a tau fleet now ?

They could've sent one when the world was first found, but they didn't and seeing as how fucking slow the bureaucracy is in 40k, it probably took them until today to realize that they should send a kill-ship.

But they can't now can they.

Kill-ships are unique weapon relics used by the Deathwatch. They are actually automated drone-ships guided by the most sophisticated of War-spirits, designed with the singular task of conducting Exterminatus operations in the most extreme of circumstances on worlds that are believed to be completely lost to the Imperium.

To aid them on their mission, Kill-ships are equipped with unique examples of long lost cloaking technology that date back to the Dark Age of Technology. This allows the drone-ship to enter into the target system completely undetected where it can manage to slip past any defensive sentries and reach the target world itself. Once there, the Kill-ship drops its lethal payload onto the planet below whereupon it performs a slingshot maneuver to escape the region by using the world's own gravity well. As the vessel escapes, its actions are felt by the apocalyptic devastation it leaves in its wake that serves as a final act of denial and vengeance upon the enemies of Man.[1]

Because such character IS a special snowflake. He's so devoid of interesting traits that it makes him higly unusual.
