Some may call me a hippy but I'm kind of against supporting large corporations. The only place to buy magic cards around where I live is Target. My buddies have been playing a long time and are hard core collectors. They think I should just suck it up and get my cards from Target.

I met a gamer on craigslist who is interested in selling me his unwanted cards in the form of boosters. (He puts together stacks of 10 commons, 3 uncommons, and a rare of cards he doesn't want). He has complete control over what I get. I agreed to buy exclusively from him instead of target (which is the whole point).

I'm excited for this and want to make an offer that will keep him interested long term. Even though it sounds like a bad thing, I like the fact of getting his shit cards because it will make deck building a challenge.

We have to work out a price per booster that I pay. I mentioned that this deal would mean he would have a monopoly on my access to new cards and I understood that might mean I have to pay more. He agreed. Now he wants to know what I should pay.

How much would you charge me if you were doing this with me? How much would it take for you to keep this going long term?

Sorry, Anon, but there's not a good answer.

If you're not worried about the quality of the cards, the best price he should ask would be at or slightly below market price for new boosters. So probably about $4 (I haven't bought packs in some time). Do you know what kinds of cards he's putting into the packs? One thing you could do is to ask him to tell you what cards he's got and look up the value of those cards yourself, then offer a price based on those numbers. I'd be careful, though; if he's willing to sell you repacks but not willing to sell you the cards individually (or as singletons with assorted junk thrown in), he's probably not the most trustworthy person.

Do you have a collection already? What sort of cards are you looking for? What formats do you play (and yes, kitchen-table counts)? Those all impact what you should do here.
>>
>>43762759
I play commander, exclusively. In my CL ad, I came up with the idea of letting him make boosters for me with his shit cards. I figured, if he doesn't want the cards and can make me pay, that's win win. Also, we have to meet up and it has to be worth his time which if I buy multiple packs it should be. However, I'm agreeing not to buy from target meaning all my cards come from him so I think that at least paying him for a regular booster price would be good.

Also, I want him to sell to me long term so I want it to be good enough that he sees me as a means to an income of sorts.
>>
You'd be better off just buying his unwanted cards in bulk. I believe when I unloaded my bulk to my LGS they gave me something like 1 cent per common, 2 cents per uncommon, probably less. If you're buying random from this guy you're wasting your money paying MSRP for hand picked "boosters", seems incredibly likely he's gonna scam you.

I need your help /tg/. I need rpg maps (with a grid) of modern city streets (preferably without cars but I'm not that picky) for an upcoming Superhero RPG I'm running on Roll20. Google has failed me horrifically, so I turn to you. Post what you have, or links to some decent ones. In exchange, I will post what google has given me, and links to some good fantasy sources.

Also, the grid is optional, but I need the style like the original, and not like a blue and red line street map.

Here's a favored source for fantasy stuff ( and a tiny bit of sci-fi). I also use their map making tools pretty extensively.

How would you do Americana fantasy?

The closest I can think of is maybe Dogs in the Vineyard, which presents a really interesting world, at least in terms of making the Dogs feel fantastical. I don't really remember if Deseret itself gets the same treatment, though.

What would you say are the unique aspects of America that would need to be brought over for a uniquely American setting? What monsters would go well in such a setting? Magic?

Bioshock Infinity on ground for settings. For monsters, maybe some of British folklore combined with native Americans legends?
>>
>>43762252
Now you aren't even trying.

>>43762339
Nah, native American legends more than fills up everything and it makes the perfect offset to the 'American' side.
>'Americans'
They have the new ways for everything. Magic, gods, worship, society, it is all organized, orderly, and at times rather cold. Gods are worshipped in churches and monasteries, magic is mass produced onto tools and weapons(if you want something really good, you'll have to find a craftsman and commission them for it). Totally at odds with

>Native Americans
They follow the old ways. It never stopped working for them, so they had no reason to change. Their power comes from the spirits, unknowable things that can be great and terrible. Magic is hand made, though it can be better than the 'American' equivalent, it cannot reach the master craft of 'American' magic, as natives simply pass down their teachings from apprentice to master, whereas 'American' magic comes from years of practice, understanding theory, and pushing the boundaries of what that theory can do.

Example: to cleanse an area of evil, and 'American' priest with speak a few words, lay out several items and perform a ritual with his staff. a native will pull out a drum, and beat it to a song he was taught by the elder shaman, calming the enraged spirits and let them move on.

Neither are wrong, but both are very different in practice.

You wake up refreshed and no damn alarm to disturb your well deserved sleep. You are John Smith, only know male IS pilot, waking up late on the first day of summer. The last year has been a fun ride even if it did start off a bit bumpy. Now though, things have been going smoothly. You sit up lazily from your bed. Surprisingly, no Laura on top of you naked sleeping. You do remember yesterday that everyone was still tired from the late night party so they slept on the bus on the way back to Academy Island.

Checking the clock, you notice it's just a bit before lunch time. You get ready at a relax pace before heading out for lunch and thinking what you should do today.

You are Siris Erickson, and you are a mutant. This is hardly surprising, considering both of your parents are mutants, and you grew up surrounded by mutants. Despite being somewhat of a late bloomer with your powers, the leaders of the Xavier Institute saw incredible potential in you and your abilities. With the ability to control the wavelength and frequency of light, as well as emit light from your body, you could theoretically do incredible things, although that is currently limited to a limited control over the light in the surrounding area and the ability to concentrate light into a laser. Both of which tend to give you painful headaches, and you can only do those with the help of a specially created suit. You were accepted into the Xavier Institute mid-year despite the late arrival of your powers, and you have been accepted into the Paragons squad.

You’re still thinking about what you saw between Rahne and Josh when class finishes. You know there’s another team exercise today, so you meet up with the rest of the team. It doesn’t take too much time for Rahne to show up after that, but she’s doing her best to avoid looking directly at you. “Alright, team. Today you’re going to be going up against another team, alright? This isn’t a simulation, so be careful.” Just as she’s about to continue, you hear another voice from outside the classroom, “Exactly, children,” Emma Frost says, as she enters the classroom. “Your mutant powers are gifts, but they are dangerous. Be careful, for your own safety, and the safety of each other.” The hellions begin entering the room, and Julian locks eyes with you, a cocky grin on his face.

Match raises his hand, “Alright, so, what’s the challenge? What are we doing?” You could swear you almost see Ms. Frost smile as she speaks, “It will be a combat challenge, one team pitted against the other, but with a twist. Sometimes when out in the field, one must cooperate with people they would otherwise be opposed to. So, the teams will be scrambled.” Rahne nods, looking down at a clipboard. “The first team will be lead by Match, and will include Tag, Preview, Wolf Cub, DJ, and Wither.” You look around at the other people gathered, that leaves your team with... “The second team will be lead by Hellion, and will include Pixie, Lighthouse, Mercury, Rockslide, Dust, and Trance.” Rahne looks up, and looks around the class room. “Alright, both teams will have a short amount of time to come up with a plan before we head to the Danger Room and actually commence the exercise. The goal is to incapacitate in some way the entirety of the enemy team.”

You approach your new team. Hellion looks around with a grin, “Alright, we gotta win this. Anybody have any ideas?”

Could we get a simple overview of their powers? I can't be arsed to google all the names I'm less familiar with.

Hellion has telekinesis.
Pixie has wings.
Mercury's body is made out of liquid mercury.
Rockslide's body is made out of rocks, and he can detach and reattach his body parts, along with super strength and shit.
Dust can turn herself into dust.
Trance has astral projection and can fly, and shoot blasts in her astral projection form.

You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You never knew organized crime could be so incredibly boring.

Several hours’ worth of reading lies strewn across the table before you, there having ceased to be any kind of filing system at play quite some time ago. At some point or another – somewhere in between the fourth and fifth mug of coffee – the names started to blur into one another, turning to soup in your brain. Wang this, Poitr that – it doesn’t help that half these people seem to share the same goddamn surname.

Somehow, you thought figuring this out would be easy. Easier than this, anyhow.

“So… this Zhang Lei guy?” Nico looks about as sick of this as you are. She slumps back against the opposite sofa like a stormcloud that fell backwards through a Hot Topic. “We think it’s him?”

You nod.

According to the information you’ve been sorting through, Zhang – pictured, in a very blurry photo, as a tall, rake-thin man with shaggy, dark hair and deeply set eyes – is one of Mr. Negative’s right hand men, involved in taking care of his personal acquisitions. He seems likely thief.

“Seems logical.”

You’ve set aside a prime suspect within the Bratva, too – a shadowy figure going only by ‘Tsar Bomba’.

“Who do we check out first?” Says Nico, thumbing absently through the latter criminal’s file.

Marrius, eponymous leader of the Marrius' Group mercenaries, heads Southwest alone, seeking an audience with one of the duchesses of Noba.

The rest of his company, followed by their clients, travels back East through the desert to Elza Oasis, having finished their job but left unable to warp home safely due to a need to recover. It is here that overall protagonist Lloyd, his lover Leigh, and the respected second in command of Marrius' Group, the witch Irene, are.

While Marrius' actions right now have no bearing over the actions of our usual heroes, they may have effects of their own.

That being said, they can be skipped without missing much.

>A. Show Marrius' travels to, arrival at, and actions in Noba. Maybe influence them..?
>B. You'll find out what there is to hear from that in due time. Stay with Lloyd.

(Previously: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Awesome%20Lizard%20Thing%20Quest)

---

You are a weird lizard thing, and you’re pretty certain you’re awesome.

Awesomeness doesn’t always mean you can fight, though. Sure, you’ve gotten into scuffles in the past, and done your fair share of hunting before you decided there’s nothing wrong and everything right with a diet of sweet, sweet fruit, but something that you might actually call ‘combat’? Not so much.

Still, you won. Things would’ve been close if not for your servant’s spell near the end; you might’ve had to try headbutting the arrow out of the air or something, and you’re not sure you’re quite that awesome yet. You do wonder a bit about the power behind that spout of water she sent into the now-dead green fellow; she doesn’t have a spellbook, so she had to have inscribed a fresh circle for it on the spot, and it can’t have been perfect.

Maybe you just have a good eye for servants.

Your gang of humans moved a fair distance away from the scene before stopping again to rest; you recall quite a lot of cursing from a male voice (swears being among the first words you learnt from the human language), and assumed that a certain guard was getting an arrow extracted from his leg, and the wound patched up.

You remember panicked and tearful young voices being succeeded by uneasy silence, and that being succeeded by curious words and enquiries a bit too loud and close for your liking. Poking followed, which you answered with a lazy growl, but for some reason that just made them more eager.

Your servant spent some time holding you up and telling you her name was Sera more times than necessary, to which you responded by prodding her on the cheek, but otherwise the past half hour or so has been rather cooperative to lazing about.

That strikes you as strange, actually. These people have fled here to get away from a raid, and they haven’t made much distance. You did hear quite a bit of discussion between the trio of adult voices, and you think the uninjured guard left for a while, but it’s only now that they decided to get moving again; you can hear the older woman urging the children to get up.

Perhaps it’s time to be a little productive.

Explosions occasionally ripple off the surface of the moon as you watch. New craters dot the moonscape as two large figures chase each other in a deadly melee, their attacks reducing boulders to pebbles as they miss inches from each other.

Lorgul swings his maul overhead and it collides with the bulwark of a shield of Agona, driving her several inches into the rocky surface. Silently she pushes him backwards with incredible strength, her spiked morningstar swinging upwards at the Voidknights chin. He manages to dodge back, a ripple of Void energy propelling him backwards before he pushes off a lip of a fresh crater, swinging his maul once more.

Nekris at your side as you both watch from above, standing on the hull of a Coffin in the airless void as the two juggernauts dueled below you. The quiet hunter folds the smaller pair of their arms as they watch with keen eyes that glimmer with necrotic energy.

Your new creation, Punisher Agona, was quite the combatant. She easily blocked strikes from Lorgul that you've seen yourself shatter stone and shred through bulkheads like paper, her own attacks quick and precise despite her massive bulk.

The black metal of your spear shifts and twists hovering close to you but as you reach out it slithers like a thing alive into your grasp. A silent mental command to the fighters and they halt their duel, looking up at you questioningly. Another short mental message and they return to their own awaiting Coffin as you and Nekris reenter and zip across the surface of the moon.

Your Think Tanks had sent a message of their own, proudly exclaiming the finished result of your first subcapitol ship awaiting your inspection. The time was nigh to truly rebuild your fleet. You almost feel...giddy at the thought, the spear writhing to reflect your excitement.

Your shadow shall fall across the Galaxy and the dead shall rise in your passing. The Galaxy will know true fear once more.

You are Jadyk Lich-Lord and the new Conquering Worm.

Completed Research: http://pastebin.com/PcRLqvLj Please forgive me QuestDrone for blatantly ripping off your ship builder system
>Sub-Capitol Ships: By extensively studying and tearing apart Osjiic and Dagger ships your Think Tanks can now create you own.

>Shields: A projected forcefield surrounding sub-capitol and larger ships protect them from incoming attacks. Shields are nearly always on, powering down when sustaining enough damage to overload or even destroy the projectors spread throughout the hulls. Ships can pass through the shields of friendly ships allowing Fighters and small craft to be launched safely from larger ships.

Your Coffin lands near the domes and buildings of bone and metal your Think Tanks had built to create and test your new ships and you spot the hull of a new Corvette classed ship awaiting your christening. Arrow shaped the ship is crafted from dense bone and deceptively strong metals forged piece by piece in the new massive construction Cauldrons dug into the surface of the moon. It lacked any weapons for the moment, little more than a hull with a Skip Drive, a power reactor and a pilot Think Tank merged into the structure of the bridge.

Stepping inside you are pleased with the aesthetics of the hallway, bone walls covered in runes of the Wormstar with necrotic crystals providing a dim light more for the benefit of any living crew it might hold. Placing your hand on the dormant reactor you ignite it with a surge of necrotic energy and the ship hums to life, lifting off the surface of the moon.

The pilot Think Tank contacts you, <This one is proud to serve. Hail Jadyk Lich-Lord!> it proclaims, the cheer echoing in your mind joined by the other Think Tanks and your Cauldron-born soldiers.

Can't post in the other thread anymore. But the guy who said why the Word Bearers got their shit kicked despite having years to prepare or w/e. I have no idea what you're talking about. He practically helps kill off half the Ultramarines while being outnumbered, and then "lost" because Kairos Fateweaver told him that Guilliman must survive Calth so he can create Imperium Secundus using up so many resources so Terra will not have enough resources to counter Horus' direct attack. This is literally the only reason Ultramarines had anything close to a "win" against them.

Without another thought, you force the messenger out of your room and head immediately toward Ali’s office.

You find her sitting at her desk, hands folded in front of her face, and her eyes staring ahead with sharp focus. Vicki stands far behind her looking both physically and mentally exhausted.

She begins and soon as she realizes that you’ve entered the room. “She’s finished the ritual.”

You lean forward immediately. “Does that mean she’s found the Hidden Seal?” You demand.

Ali shakes her head firmly. “No. The rushed nature of her binding has allowed The Dreamer to hold out partially, but it’s only a matter of hours now before she collects all that she needs..”

You rise from the seat so suddenly that it topples behind you. You march directly toward Vicki who shrinks with every single one of your steps. “Inform the army that they’re to begin constructing all of these immediately.” You hand her the designs for the outer circles. “Make sure they don’t make any mistakes.”

Vicki turns to Ali after accepting the handful of parchment, and with a single nod from Ali, she’s gone from sight instantly.

You spread out the remaining parchment of the inner circle design and begin fervently marking down modifications. “Is that all the information that Vicki brought back with her?”

“No.” Ali responds without hesitation. “She’s collected a significant amount of notes that will help expedite the ritual on our end.” She sighs and marks down several notes. “I’ve already sent word to have them implemented…”

But, unless everything goes flawlessly, Azalie will have a slight head start on you at this rate.

“Alright...” You remark as you scour your mind for all information that will help you improve upon the complex design in front of you. “There’s something else, isn’t there?”

It’s entirely like Ali to build up to the most important piece of information, and you have a feeling that this case is not going to be any different.

A heavy silence of pure rumination comes over Ali before she continues, finally she pulls out a single wrinkled sheet of parchment. “After seeing that the ritual was complete, Vicki, in her desperation and incredible foolishness, attempted to steal The Empress’s personal notes.”

The personal notes that Azalie keeps close by at all times, meaning that you’d certainly have to risk death to even touch them.

You briefly look up from your work. “Then…”

Ali inhales and exhales deeply. “This single page outlines details about the final realm.” She holds out the piece of parchment to you.

You stare upon the face of the paper to see that it is indeed Azalie’s writing on it. The notes themselves seem to have all been jotted down at various times, and given the fading of the ink you can tell that years, if not decades separate the entries.

You key in on the important information.

>”Form will be maintained, but any attached powers will be impossible to call upon naturally.”

>”Only a single being can stably occupy a form, all secondary attached beings are removed upon crossing the threshold of the realm. This seems to include all types of enchantments or curses on inanimate objects as well.”

>”However, those true weapons surpass this fact, and should be located immediately. Although, other methods exist for removing that creature.”

>”Extremely potent blood seems to retain some of its effectiveness, and can be used as a catalyst to call upon fractions of any attached powers. Although, there are none remaining that I know of that have this blood."

>"The opening to the final realm is temporary. If one does not ascend beyond, or return in time, they will be lost forever within."

You sigh and rub your eyes. “So my powers…”

“Will be out of reach.” Ali completes your thoughts and stands. “But so will The Empress’s. There on, it will be like a fight between three human beings.”

“Three?” You ask skeptically.

Ali pulls out the ornate dagger and looks over it. “If her powers are removed, then it will be just like the old times for me.” She turns to you with focused eyes. “But we both know how capable she is, and we cannot fail now...”

“You don’t mean…” You cross your arms.

“That’s exactly what I mean.” She rests a hand on her chest. “I’ll follow behind after we finally do enter. If she’s already there, then you must do your utmost to distract her…and then I’ll make my move.”

“If you fail, then you’re dead.” You inform her frankly.

“That’s why you have to distract her the best you can.” Ali answers with a very faint hint of desperation in her voice. “There’s no other choice. My blood won’t work as a catalyst, and using your own blood would end up harming more than helping.”

At that moment, a very interesting thought flashed through your mind. You obviously can’t use your own blood to invoke your powers, but there exists another that holds the exact same blood as you.

Always an option, in case things go wrong…Or perhaps, a better plan from the start.

Ali stares at you suspiciously as you’ve been quiet for some time now.

You look back at her.

>"I'll do my best to distract her."

>"There is a better way..."

How the fuck do people come up with names? Somehow, this feels like one of the hardest parts of making a character, to me. If I'm doing a character for a nonmodern setting, I want that character to have a name that actually "clicks". I don't mean that it has to be the coolest thing ever, I just want something that sound nice and feels appropriate to the character. Just... something more fantastic/scifistic than regular names. Often, names and even the letters and syllables of names carry connotations and flavors, and it bothers me if I can't get it just right. Shouldn't be that important, or even that hard, but it really stumps me a lot of the time, and feels like an ugly, unpleasant necessity. If I rush it, the name ends up being something really shitty and then I feel bad about it.

How do you people come up with names for your characters?

I just ask the GM for a few typical names and pick one of them.

Your GM has a list of typical names? Man, you're lucky. I've tried that, and I get funny looks and a "I don't fucking know, pick whatever you like."

Then again, our group is a piece of shit and half of our characters either have completely regular names (John, Bill, Anna, Bob) or terrible jokes or pop culture references. It's looped around to the point that people unironically go for stuff like Bilbo Potter because we're so used to it.

Think of where your character comes from, then think of a name that would be typical for that civilization or nation.

Your character's name SHOULDN'T be descriptive of your character. In fact, that's where the McEdge of Mary Sue names come from, because they try to either be too descriptive or make them "special" (just like their characters are supposed to be)

This is why I prefer going for mundane names, either from real life or what'd sound like it'd be a common/fairly normal name in the setting I'm playing.

Also, your thread reminded me I had file related somewhere on my computer, so thanks I guess.
