What are the essential characteristics of a sidearm to be used aboard both spaceships and planets?

Since the Open Game License allows for retroclones, will we ever see a clone of 4E?
Perhaps one that condenses and fixes some things, like what Pathfinder was to 3.5?
4e isn't under the OGL, but that doesn't mean we won't see a game in the same mold being created. It'll just have to be distinct enough from 4e to avoid legal issues. Although, interesting thing? You can't copyright game mechanics. Certain monsters and names would have to be changed, but you could rewrite every single page of 4e rules and republish them 100% legally.
I've talked about a 4e inspired game with my friends quite a few times, taking the good ideas the system had and building on them, perhaps even getting rid of some of the D&D...

People have been using the technicality that 3.5 and 5e are using the same nomenclature to release supplements/adventures/etc. for 5e, tho I'm not sure how well thats going to hold up in court.
Anyway, take a look at Strike!, it has most of the elements I like from 4e.

Older editions of D&D aren't under the OGL, yet we have compatible retroclones. I think the OGL cleared up some of the grey areas, since it said you can definitely create your own game with "ability scores", "attack rolls", "armor class", etc.
I suppose we wouldn't have beholders or mind flayers, but I'm wondering if there are any more snags with 4E. Perhaps some power names, maybe a few of the races.

"People from Earth exploring a fantasy world" is a trite by this point.
How would you run a campaign about magical people from a high-magic fantasy world making forays into our own modern world?
This would begin with establishing the fantasy world first and just how different it is from Earth. It would advance towards hearing wild rumors and investigating small planar breaches from Earth, then progress into exploring small towns of our world, then finally the big cities of glass and steel.
I imagine that it would be a more diplomatic and investigative...

Outcast Tau.
They were part of the same clan that became the etherials. There was disagreement on how to deal with the rest of the Tau infighting. The Furons left the planet while the etherials remained behind to spread their belief in the greater good.

Can someone explain to me why there is so much emphasis on Space Marine Chapters being "1000 strong" and anyone who deviates is borderline heretic?
I mean yea sure it is better to have tiny chapters than big ass legions, but unless a chapter has gotten battle raped, I dont think it is possible to have 1000 guys consistently
the ultramarines chapter definitely uses more than 1000 space marines if the old "buy the ultramarines chapter" bundle is canon. So even the model chapter itself breaks the rule

Yes, the ultramarines themselves have more than a thousand, they also effectively are at legion size because they can order a bunch of chapters around.

This is like a horror movie – one of the really good ones, not just a dumb slasher flick. You can't bear to watch, but neither can you tear your eyes away. As your eyes flicker between each member of the group, Cassandra speaks up, this time in a placating tone.
“Leon,” she says with a visible effort to remain calm, “What, exactly, would it take to get you to help us?”
“Well, she's God, aye?” Leon smirks again, looking over at Amelia, “Go and magic up a stack of cash, that's a good startin' point!”
Scowling hard, Amelia slams her fist down onto the table – at least, she tries to. Her intangible fist passes straight through without making a sound. A moment later, Petra approaches and slams HER fist down onto the table, making all the cups bounce precariously. “Thank you,” Amelia mutters, before raising her voice, “Nobody is magicking up anything, understand? That's not how this works.”

The Dark Side gives easier and quicker access to the same power and since it's also unrestricted, it's way easier to utilize. A Jedi could throw you around the room just as easily as that huge crate, but it's against their philosophy to use the Force to directly control a person's existence. Hence why they have work "around" and throw shit AT you, instead of throwing YOU.
Also, Vader was ridiculously powerful because he was the motherfucking CHOSEN ONE, and Sidious is quite likely...
