On the way back to Elza, your company crossed paths with two men, one apparently garou and younger, one somewhat older and fully human, with medium-length brown hair and a dulled red coat. Swordsmen, by the looks of it, both of them.

To be more technical, at the time, it was night, you were camped about a day from the city, and you and Ansi were on watch.

"You two here to start trouble?" Ansi says, wary of potential bandits and tired. "Just keep moving, both of you."

"Don't talk to us like that!" The wolf grumbles, snarling.

"H-hey, wait," the human says, holding up his hand, "stay your hand, would you?"

The men nod, Romulus turning to glare and growl at Ansi once more before they head off in the direction you two were coming from.

"Hmph... I could've taken them," Ansi grumbles.

Good evening/morning/afterlunch/wherever it is you are, /tg/.

So here's the situation: my playgroup comprises the gamut of "I want to create a flufftastic character with really cool social interactions and RP!" to "I want to be the biggest badass who ever lived and I will munchkin the system until I do so."

I need a system that straddles the line between mechanical and narrativist; something which blends dice-rolling and RP. We've tried Savage Worlds, the powergamer broke it almost immediately. We've tried FATE, I can't get my head around it as a GM.

Any suggestions?

plus there's actually statistic values applied to things characters care for! so you can really turn battle tides, either arguments or fights, by pinning said values.

Threatening a man's wife is a great way to invoke a feeling of hatred toward you that will blind their ability to act rationally, for example.

Or, as a good liar, you can imply someone means his wife ill harm and must be stopped, so they'd redirect said hatred toward your target. It's fun times.

But if you can't get your head around FATE, aka "more points and i win without question: the system," Exalted might be sort of impossible, friend

it's a game where you cruise through all challenges until something really fucking legendary appears. That might be the one time you fail.

So your munchkin players will be so gratified in their ability to destroy entire armies in fair combat that they probably won't even notice certain things are more broken than others.

With Savage Worlds, it's normally not that difficult to circumvent a power gamer's min-maxing. Aside from not making everything about direct combat, if somebody is strong in melee, you have a bunch of people shoot at him (where you can't just build up your parry to protect you; you can even have some enemies take a round to aim if necessary, or blindside him with unexpected area effect attacks) and just generally use tactics against him in particular (since it should be obvious that he's the real threat in the party once combat gets going)--shoot from cover, draw him into an ambush, or just plain gang up on him.

But to address your question, what you're asking for is very difficult as seem to want mechanics that cater to your powergamer and let him be a real badass, but without being too powerful, while also being narrativist by mechanical design (rather than just GM fiat). Honestly, my solution would be to go for a rules-light game where you can give the badass a statistical advantage (high combat stats) without being able to exploit a bunch of loopholes, and leave yourself free to improv your way around his strengths if necessary (by giving the enemies situational bonuses and so forth). And, of course, with a rules-light system, you don't really have any mechanics to get in the way of your role-playing social interactions (if you feel a roll is necessary, just make it an attribute check with whatever modifier you think is appropriate, or just decide based on a character's background and stats what you feel like his percentage of success should be, and then roll against that percentage).

It is at this point that Oster returns, a stack of kindling in his arms. He looks at all of you and shrugs, dumping the firewood on the ground.
“I’m not going to ask.”

Before long, he’s got a nice fire going. You’d question why you would need it just yet as the sun has not yet gone down but Hiss and Aashenpreet are already crowding around it. Maybe they’d grown too accustomed to the heat of Quedesh.
Oster sits further back, whittling at a chunk of wood with a thin knife. Another mask?

“Hey Cennen, what are you doing? Come sit here.”
Hiss beckons you down to sit beside her, having apparently already forgotten about her momentary violence against you.

Well met again teegee. I come to you for a very specific reason. I draw, /tg/, drawing is my life, quite literally. And I of course am a not-quite-elegan/tg/entleman, or I wouldn't be here. So those things happen to mesh in a very specific way: you think, I draw. It is easy, really: I will, in the next post, give you what we call a "skeleton" (not that kind) and you will tell me what to do of it. Of course, as long as it is /tg/ related. Elf ears, tails, horns, armor of all kinds, a giant d20, a meltagun, robe and wizard hat, all goes. For you it is a test of creativeness, for me, a test of skills. I think that the status of the normal people aboard Space Marine ships and planets should be expanded upon.

Like the Iron Hands just use servitors, the Black Templars have zealot slaves, the Ultramarines have a mix of servitors/guardsmen with some sort of Ultramar flare.

Fuck, now I want a Roman/Byzantine themed Guardsmen army as the garrison of Ultramar.

He's basically a Mexican General-turned-businessman with the Machismo turned up to 11, who was forced to become a Rogue Trader because of rivals vying for Lord Commander of his homeworld Guard regiments, and now he goes out of his way to fuck with the guy who removed him from the picture (who is now Lord Commander) by fucking him over at every possible time while still making his homeworld and himself wealthy, and banging basically anything with a vagina (organic and mechanical), including pretty much all female members of his crew.

He also has an elderly woman who acts as his aide, whom he calls "Abuela," and she is the only person who can berate him and scold him on the entire ship (which she often does). Nobody knows how old she is, but she's been around for at least as long as he's been a RT, and that's been 110 years, and everybody remembers her only being old.

Announcement, a retcon, and a fix.

Most immediately, I answered the pile-up of questions in the ask.fm but I want to clarify regarding cats and dogs; dogs are definitely rare, cats are less so but feral populations do persist. Cats have a decreased life span and a number of parasites and predators compete with or openly attack the feral populations but as cats themselves represent such a good evolutionary template that pseudo-cats exist in places with no actual feline population I think it is reasonable that they would survive into the future.

As for the first retcon, the Elevon definitely has a back seat. I know the picture I posted lacks one but there is a small backseat that I referred to several times since it first appeared. It was always intended to have one and I apologize for any confusion the image may have caused.

The second retcon is that a gas mask and taser that were missing from your inventory after you picked them off the body of the dead Scyth in the vets office have been restored. To make up for this, I also added a single taser grid to your stock.

Regardless, you need to satisfy Mrs. Shan’s call for the death of her husband before she blows the bomb in your neck.

There's dinosaurs in the region of Eberron that my character hails from, and in one of the guidebooks it says that longneck type dino bacon is an extremely popular export.
She's probably pretty sweet on slow smoked, maple cured, peppered dino bacon.

It is possible for a lawful society to have a decent quality of life throughout, various protected human rights, and a consistent way to resolve disputes. It's not slavery because you can leave, you can vote, and you can run for office. All civilized beings recognize that morality does not begin and end with "but I wanna".
Everyone being brainwashed and identical is only one way the cosmic ideal of Law can manifest, but having no laws at all? That's always just kill or be killed, and the only people who want that are the ones who naively assume they'd be on top of the food chain.

This isn't good vs evil where one side is objectively better than the other. Both law and chaos need to be taken in moderate amounts and not go overboard, or things go to shit. Too much law? Stagnation, restriction, burecracy. Too much chaos? Lawlessness, incohate knowledgekeeping, general craziness.

Laws are a means to an end, just as innovation, freedom and freethinking is.

You shouldn't side with law or chaos, any more than you should side with time or space or art or science.

Use them, but remember that they aren't something of themselves, they're goddamn tools.
