Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you bought a strange box and began to investigate the death of a slave.

You should probably be surprised, but at this point a hollowed out corpse is pretty run of the mill by your standards. “Which organs were missing?”

The elven slave, Gerasimos you think his name was, clears his throat. “Missing might not be the right word. Granted we've yet to find either her heart or kidneys, but her lungs were nailed to the wall and her intestines strung through the bars as though some sort of grizzly ornamentation. Her stomach was ruptured completely and its contents scattered across the walls. I'd go on but I rather think you get the picture.”

You seem to recall there were certain rituals practiced during the time of the Hiacian Empire regarding the consumption of the hearts of one's vanquished enemies, something about gaining their power. The tradition is poorly understood since it was at its heart a Suryan practice, and with the collapse of the Suryan priesthood their rituals and ceremonies were lost to time. The Jailer you met here the other day springs to mind as a likely suspect. He claims to dedicate himself to Surya and could move freely through the dungeon without suspicion.

Yet that seems like too obvious a suspect. You imagine if your brother's jailer was going to murder someone, he would at least try to cover his tracks. He did not seem lacking in his mental faculties when you met him. Plus, so far as you're aware, under the Suryan practice efforts were made to extract the heart with as little blood spilled as possible. The goal was to ensure that the victim remained alive long enough to see their heart eaten. “Were there any witnesses? The cells did not seem to lack for occupants when I was there last.”

Zaahir shrugs his shoulders, his expression passive. “Many of the prisoners heard grinding stone, bones snapping, screams, and whispering voices. Most simply assumed that it was the Herbad at work. However, Zakariyya claims he was undergoing his devotions at the time and thus nowhere near the dungeons. None can corroborate his story, but that's to be expected. From what I understand devotions are an intensely private affair.”

Gerasimos cuts in once your brother seems finished speaking. “One prisoner in particular, a local drunk arrested for pissing in a fountain, claims to have seen a large, hunched figure with the horns of an ox enter the dungeon. We dismissed his testimony out of hand, his cell was nearly at the end of the hall. Past the cell of the victim and nowhere near the entrance.”

>Well, regardless this isn't any of your business. Mortia obviously isn't involved.
>Suggest they investigate Zakariyya's involvement, you don't trust that priest.
>You seem to recall there being a number of sealed tunnels branching off the dungeons, perhaps they should open one up and investigate?

You enjoy a slight breakfast of eggs and Nuna sausage with your holobook on the Jedi open for you to read. Around you, the podracer hangar was buzzing with activity, figuratively and literally. Many were blasting their engines to snuff out dust and warm them up for the race tonight, others were making bets with each other, and some were busy “helping” other pilots with “surprise modifications”. You had to take note that there were no other human pilots besides Misri. Podracing is not for the faint of heart, and unfortunately the entire species of humanity simply isn’t built to podrace. Any human who can podrace is either a Jedi or lying.

“Rhys!” You look, then find yourself enraptured by Misri’s disguise. Form fitting brown pants with a Clone trooper kama around her hips and her lower thighs. And on her chest was simply wrappings covering her up underneath a heavy brown vest, combined with more wrappings on her arms and her hands. And on her head was a salvaged Naboo Royal pilot helmet, complete with goggles. “What do you think? The organizer said I could probably make a few extra credits if I showed off a little something something to the crowd, make them think I’m just a little girl way in over her head! Pretty wizard, eh?” She shakes her hips a bit, smirking at you. “Like it?”

“Only when it’s on the floor of my quarters,” you say. She rolls her head back, exhaling in disgust. “You sure you’re up to podracing? It’s not just winning, it’s also evading the heat too. The Empire doesn’t take too kindly to the sport, especially on its home turf.”

“Relax, I’ve dodged police speeders before,” she boasts. She looks down at your holobook. “What are you reading?”

“Reviewing the history of the Jedi Order,” you say. “Up to and including the Clone Wars.”

“Ever meet a Jedi?” she asks. If you have, they probably wiped your memory of it. So you shake your head. “Lame. They’re the guys who use the Force and all that, right?”

“Right,” you say. “It’s mostly just cheap parlor tricks and showmanship though. A lot of things the Jedi could do, a clever man can do too.” You flip through your holobook. “Like this. The Jedi mind trick. It’s said here that a Jedi could command the minds of the weak-minded. Can you believe that?”

“Actually, I can,” she says. “I’ve met lots of goons who did what I said though…” She looks down at her body, and back at you. “Probably not so much mind trick as…” She shrugs. “Whatever. What about the mind trick?”

“Basically, wave your hand and tell someone to do something and they’ll do it,” you say. “We saw something like that back on Kashyyyk, the guy was just paying off the guys he was mind tricking.”

“Ooooh.” Misri quickly sweeps her legs back in a fighting posture, then waves her hand at you with a fierce grin. “You will give me your breakfast.”

You grip your plate and say, “I will-“ Wait. This is stupid. “What- no, this is stupid!” She groans in frustration as you continue to eat. Ugh, headache. You rub at your head, furrowing your brow. “Don’t you have your podracer to attend to?”

“Yeah,” she says. “I’m there if you need me.” She turns around and walks off, her hips swaying as she goes. Already earning those credits you see. As she does, Kuvasz and Vikker come by.

Kuvasz says to you. “So what did you want to talk to us about?” he asks.

“Katana Fleet, Zann Consortium is offering me 100k plus full market cashing of my share of ingots,” you explain very briefly. They seem confused at that, but you’re not sure how to explain it better than that. “Tyber Zann himself asked me. He’s even got a Defiler over there watching me.” You point out a man in red evil looking armor watching you from the other end of the hangar. You wave at him. He simply continues to stare at you.

“What’s a smalltime hood like Tyber want with a myth?” asks Vikker. He crosses his arms. “His Defilers yeah, they’re scary, but there isn’t enough of them to crew two-hundred dreadnaughts.”

“I wouldn’t trust smalltime hoods with fleets that could threaten the galaxy,” says Kuvasz. “What did you have planned?”

It's been quite dead for years now.
I played an older version of the setting way back when it was new and fresh, using GURPS (Because there weren't any alternatives at the time). I remember choosing an older version because I really didn't like the direction the threads had been taking it and nobody else involved seem to agree with me.

Haxton: Greetings! I am Haxton Sale Guye! World famous badass and proud owner of the Guye Co. Munitions corp. I have a very important job that requires some crack mech pilots. You see there's a new player in the arms manufacturing business: some upstart start-up by the name of Advanced...energetic...uh.

Jeeves: Advanced Energy Systems Research sir...

Haxton: Right! Those guys think they can cause a "disruption" in the weapons market with their new fangled "cutting edge" technology, well I won't have it! I need you to head down to their factory floor and show them that their "directed energy weapons" are no substitute for punching things in the face! Some people talk about the Market's invisible hand, well I believe in a visible fist!... to the face of my competitors. Ha ha! Free market capitalism at it's finest.

Jeeves: Sir I don't think that consitutes...

Haxton: Quiet Jeeves I' giving a pithy speech here. Anyway most other merc contracts involve a lengthy process of choosing mech loadouts well I'm going to do you a massive favour by providing you the "optimal" loadout for any combat situation:

Pugilist
Hedgehog System
Hp: 16/16
Torso: Extra Punching Arm, Extra Punching Arm
LA: Power Fist
RA: Power Fist
Legs: Juggernaut Mods

There! With a loadout like that there's no need to faff about with arms catalogs. You can now spend the time you'd need to put together a loadout contemplating how awesome I am. You're welcome! Now if you'll excuse me I have a steak dinner to attend. Jeeves here will see to the paperwork.

Jeeves: *Sigh* Well then pilots I shall now present you with the obligatory paperwork, despite the proclamations of our esteemed employer you will indeed need to know how to put together a loadout.

Jeeves: Given the nature of the mission I think we both know that it would be prudent to have more variety than the puglist class. To that end I am opening up the entire Guye Co. catalog for use as well as granting access to Knight Lite Military Supplies.

We've already spent a considerable amount funding this operation so we'll have to limit your budget to 40 Cred.

With the Portal Stone clasped in hand, the transition back to Grisoch is much smoother. You still stumble over the threshold of the veil, but the thin trails of Mist clinging to your cloak are nothing compared to the sheet of rime that coated you on your maiden voyage to Azeo Sicros. The lack of splitting headache is just another fringe benefit.

The sun hangs low in the sky as you emerge. The Portal Stone deposits you neatly in the center of your wartorn practice field. As reality snaps back into place behind you the sounds and smells of your home manifest all at once. The autumn grain and the smell of fallen leaves mingle with the ringing of Merich's forge and the sound of Boand's river. Grisoch, in essence. Before you know it, you've got a smile on your face.

Only Terra is inside your workshop when you enter. She's seated at the table in the center of the main room. Around the workshop a few candles are lit, their light battling valiantly against the oncoming night. On the table before her, a tiny humanoid figures chitters excitedly. By the skirt ofpurple leaves and the decidedly verdant complexion, you're certain this is one of the flower spirits.

“Welcome home!” Terra gives you a little wave as you cross the threshold. “This is Dona.” She gestures to the sprite. The tiny figure greets you with a graceful curtsy. “She's telling me stuff about the flowers. I didn't know you could use them for so many things!”

You return the sprite's courtesy with a shallow bow of your own. You're not sure which blossom she hails from, but those leaves make you inexplicably nervous.

Well, they decided that advancements and skills and stuff suck the way they used to do them.
>>
>>44645980
skills?

take the corresponding attribute bonus

lets say your charisma (CHA) is 14, giving you a +2 bonus to CHA based skills and checks.

your deception skill would be a 2, assuming you are not proficient with it. if you were proficient with CHA (or just the deception skill) and the character is at lv 1, your proficiency bonus would be a +2 and would be added to your deception skill's 2 giving you 4 total. every time you rolled a deception skill check, you would add +4 (just 2 if you are not proficient) to your roll.

the only way to really increase them is either increase your attributes or level up enough for your proficiency bonus to increase (becomes +3 at lv5, +4 at lv10), or the effect of an item or spell.
