You are Irue Valen, blood heir to House Valen, and currently on a rather strict deadline to accomplish not one, but three different things that would take entire teams of trained professionals at least a week to accomplish. This was just another in a long series of unreasonable expectations that had been forced upon you lately, and it's something that you've reluctantly accepted as the norm for you. Admittedly, things could have been more difficult if you hadn't managed to obtain the frosted face-changing Relic that had let you move about undetected for the most part, but you hesitate to call 'falling into an Atelier' a stroke of luck - Even if you survived.

You had also managed to procure local assistance in your schemes. And by procure you mean you tried time and time again to not involve her, only for some annoying woman to come along and open her thrice cursed mouth and ruin all your efforts to do that. So, for better or worse, Jill was now attempting to help you find Asche and Kara in her own ways! This took a little pressure off of you to do everything yourself, and simultaneously put more pressure on you because you found yourself not particularly trusting that the enthusiastic serving girl wasn't about to get herself in trouble trying to 'help'. Luna knows trouble was all you seemed to find lately.

For the moment however, you had chosen to get the meeting with the Shrine out of the way as quickly as possible. From the moment the sun had started to rise, your face had already shifted into that of the braided persona you used in your previous information brokering deals as you made your way across town.

Your early arrival at the Shrine had been met as if it had been expected, but you still had some time before the meeting started. How should you spend your time?

“One…two…three!”

As soon as the last number exits out of your mouth, the entire parties (barring yourself on account of your broken arm) swing their weapons at the barrier as hard as they can. There is a tremendous noise as shards of ice go flying everywhere, either turning into a fine mist upon contact with the air or prickling everyone’s skin with a slight pinch of winter.

The mist settles down enough for everyone to have a good look at the damage. Despite the fact that said barrier of ice was created by magic, it seemed to be just as susceptible to mundane means of destruction as much as vanilla ice was. There’s a sizable chunk missing that’s at least the size of a cantaloupe, running along the rim where the door meets the frame.

Just as you’re unsure as to whether or not they hit it hard enough, the several tiny cracks on the translucent surface grow even bigger as another tremendous impact weakens the barrier. You don’t need to look into everyone’s eyes to know that they’ve got the butterflies in their stomachs.

The bad news was that Ghoul was still alive and kicking after Fitz had apparently emptied an entire magazine of .40S&W rounds into its putrid flesh. The good news is that you managed to significantly weaken the barrier.

Oh, but it gets worse. Ghoul was apparently rampaging against the door as hard as it could, and would be upon you within the minute.

Why doesn't anyone ever want to play good characters anymore? I'm about to start a campaign of The Strange and I told my usual group that they would all be members of the Estate, basically an organization tasked with keeping Earth safe. I told them it was going to be a pretty lighthearted campaign, fun like a lighthearted "monster of the week" x-files episode vibe.

And then I get their character sheets, and everyone is evil. Or rather one describes himself as a sociopath, one is a cult leader bent on destroying the world (without the other two players knowing) and the other was actually fine because he was a failed street magician.

Why don't people ever want to be the good guys? Why does there always have to be a twist? I think morally grey stuff is fine, but it doesn't ALWAYS have to be morally grey.

How do you convince your players that good characters are still fun?

>Why don't people ever want to be the good guys?
BECAUSE GOOD IS DUMB.
>>
>>44656496
It really depends on the player. I've always played good characters because I enjoy interacting with the world, building up a circle of allies and NPCs and maybe actually making some kind of positive change in the world. The one time our group tried an evil campaign I kind of found it a little... hard to engage with the world when we couldn't go anywhere without sacrificing their leaders to about three different evil gods and turning the rest of the population into spell components.

Just as I'm a character that enjoys playing a good character, some people just enjoy playing an RPG as the bad guy. Have you played with these guys before? Are they always evil players? And if you still want the game to be lighthearted fun, well, hammy evil capers is still something you could play.
>>
>>44656496
See, I love playing good characters, I just usually want a mild twist on it, like. "Starts mildly self-interested, but undergoes character development towards Lawful Good."

That sort of approach also makes playing monsterous characters more interesting, actually capitalizing on the role-play opportunities that arise from playing someone well-intentioned but not your traditional hero.

And magic is impossible in real life, ya cunt.

What do you think its better?

Leave the goblin tribes alone and fight them back whenever they invade. This will, when considering all the casualties on both sides for hundreds or thousands of years to come, lead to maybe millions of deaths

The answer is genocide! The only good goblin is a dead goblin. A few dozen thousands goblins dead and gone. No more problems

Kill the adults, take the children and raise them as members of our society. Will cause lots of problems at first

Throughout the annals of history, legends and tales speak of powerful kings, brave knights and diligent saints; each spawning whimsical and glorious tales of their exploits.
However this tale is not about them. It is about you. The common man. The small-folk. The serfs and slaves. The peasant. You will tame ox and horse not dragons. You will harvest the heads of wheat, not the heads of enemies. You will learn the cycles of the sun and moon, not the cycles of runes and spells. You are the foundation to every great civilization under the sun and maybe through luck or cunning you can aspire to be slightly more. But for now, you are a lowly serf, bond to a single master and the land he owns,

Where is it that you spend your days toiling.

>The fertile plains of [Ravnony] where the gifts of earth grow bountifully along a calm river.

Ki'Bodi, a grand savanna bordering a great desert. It's inhabitants have tamed many beasts that share ancestry to the wild herds that still roam today. Most of these shepherds of the high grass are nomads, but a few have established great trade cities fed the numberless citizens of the continent the livestock of influential cattle-barons. So what did those wise barons condemn you to spend your days as

Just do yourself a favour and read whichever one is about your favourite chapter or something.
You don't get any space marine books for a quality reading experience, you get them because you'd rather read about space marines and dork out on 40k lore than buy a book in a store that doesn't sell warhammerz.
The best 40k book is still just mediocre grimdark sci-fi, and most of them are pretty crap.

As someone who LOVES 40k and nerding out on lore, I'd still urge you to find some torrent with the old 2000AD comics or pick up Armor, Leviathan Wakes or Old Man's War instead.

Hey /tg/, I need a little help. How do I justify beast races in a campaign setting?

Are they made from half breeds of humans and animals? Creations of Gods or Wizards? How can I justify them? Is it possible to justify monstergirl-esque human hybrids in the same setting or should it just be one or the other?

That's a pretty weak excuse. Having both furry donkey men as well as people with donkey years is kind of strange.

What would happen if all insects on earth were suddenly possesed by a malevolent consciousness bent on eradicating humanity. Insects gain no new capabilities, nor do they suddenly hivemind, but they do start working together to kill humans, even among species that normally prey on each other. Our insectoid antagonists are no smarter than an ordinary insect and won't be pulling any bullshit like poisoning wells or stealing the launch codes.

Assuming humanity survives, what would earth look like in ten years? Fifty? A century? How would we defend ourselves? How would we win the war? Could we win it?

To balance the scales, what if we make spiders loyal to humans? Protip: Spiders are not insects, but solifugids are not spiders. We'll leave crabs and seagoing arthropods out of the scenario for now.

"Where are we going?"

"To that big castle, in the distance." You point to the peak of the fortress in the distance.

"Really?" The girl riding behind you seems uncertain. "I don't think I'm allowed there. I should really be getting home."

Maybe you should just ride in silence. Every little thing this girl says is like a punch to your sisterly heart.

You are Yuuki Kuchinashi, and the last few days have been depressing from a big-sister standpoint.
Yesterday, you found out the 'princess' of another kingdom may be a victim of longstanding abuse. THEN, the night before, you found out the hero of that kingdom may be mentally scarred and berated every night. This doesn't even count this morning when you had to escort the young Louise to Gallete to help her fight a dragon, something she was expected to do because she's their hero and not because she had any capacity to do it.

Plus, that doesn't even count what you found when you were in Gallete. Namely, a little girl imprisoned in a dungeon who may not have seen the sun before.

A part of you feels that this entire world is made of child abusers. Cody said earlier that you tend to have a cooler head than he does, but that isn't entirely true. If you found even one more abuse: you would grab this girl, Louise, and Kayda and take them back with you to Bruschetta to live like princesses. There is NO WAY you trust leaving any of these young kids with Catland and Bearland at this point. Not with the evidence you have right now.

At least Biscotti is still clean in your eyes. Jack and Tuile are more likely to abuse their livers than another person. You're not sure about that sheepland, but those the two kids from there seem happy enough. Squirrel-land seems OK, but their princess is a looney. Thankfully, that's Cody's problem to solve.

Speaking of which, Cody left the job of asking around the castle about this girl's heritage to you. Something which he only did because he felt you were less likely to punch someone out and start a war. That, too, is only half-true. Likely even the opposite if you don't get the answers you're looking for.

"Excuse me? Shouldn't I be getting home? Dad might be mad if I'm not there." The young girl tugs on your sleeve once more.

>"That's not your home anymore."
>"It's fine. I'm about to go ask for permission for you to have a better home."
>"You're coming home with me from now on."
>"Your home will look like this. A great big castle, all to yourself!"
>"We're gonna ask some questions before you go home."
