In the last chapter, Zheng Li awakes from his duel with Zang Ba to find out that his rival has conceded to his terms and will no longer take supplies from the people. Having finished his goal, Zheng Li leaves Xu province despite an employment offer from Tao Qian. He decides that it is now time to join the Han forces to stop the Yellow Scarves from taking over the land. Meeting Huangfu Song, he is given orders to join with Lu Zhi and defend Ji province. The Dawn Tigers march northward and seeing the Han forces already engaged with rebels, Zheng Li leads a charge against the rebel flanks and scores a great victory.

The night is dark but the camps are lively with chatting soldiers and the soldiers of the Han celebrating. Meat and wine is passed around camp for every soldier; a luxury that most low-ranking soldiers do not get. At the center stage and on a platform, you along with Hao Xian and Yang Jing are seated together with Lu Zhi and another man named Han Fu, the local governor of Ji province.
After having defeated the rebels and having aided the Han soldiers, you and your men were invited to a celebratory banquet in honor of participating in an integral part of routing the rebel forces. Your flanking charge caught the enemy completely off-guard and it was the action needed for the government forces to turn back the fighting and push back the rebels. Reports of the enemy generals Bian Xi and Pei Yuan Shao are that they retreated a few hundred li back.
Lu Zhi pours you a cup of wine.
“Let me thank you once again Sir Zheng,” he says with a gracious look on his face. “Our forces were in dire need of reinforcements and you arrived just at the most opportune time. The rebels have been pushing us back and have taken several commanderies of Ji. The past few months have been a troublesome time for the Imperial forces. But the tide shall be turning soon. With Generals Zhu Jun pushing eastward and General Huangfu Song attacking Bing province, I believe now is the time for us to drive back the Scarves. Your arrival and our victory here is such a sign.
Tell me of yourself Sir Zheng. What family are you from and how have you come to command these soldiers?”
You are speaking in front of many soldiers and a Han general. Perhaps this is the time to bring your clan to prominence or at least give it some fame for the future.
>give an account of your deeds so far and the background of your family
>be humble and say you are just a volunteer force

This is a quest based on non-transparency. As the QM, I will not be giving away any details that a normal RPG would.
For example, instead of saying "You have 1 hp remaining", I'd say "You do not feel you can take another hit". The same would go for every little part of the quest.
So, let's get going. The first reply is the one that gets chosen.
> You wake up in a forest.

Look around me.
Welcome to legacy quest, a dungeon crawling adventure spanning several generations of heroes.
Your protagonists will die, permanently, but fear not! Before each hero embarks on their quest to free the land from evil, they marry and have children, ensuring their bloodline will not die with them, and providing the next intrepid adventurer to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors when they come of age.
Unfortunate and stupid heroes might face insta-kills, unwinnable situations, and general doom. The best and brightest will slowly progress through the dungeon, but will still likely face their inevitable death.
No one hero will beat the dungeon, only by building up a strong family of heroes, investing in your hometown/stronghold to acquire better resources, passing down knowledge, wealth, and loot.
This will be a trial run, to see if it generates interest, so apologies in advance for the problems that will inevitably arise and need to be worked out through the course of this thread.
I'll wait for at least three anons to post before the quest begins, to make sure we have a range of ideas to guide our intrepid hero through the perils of the dungeon. Until then, I'll post backstory/background for the adventure. Bump if interested.
Bump!
The story begins in your hometown of Angorvil. Well... Hometown is probably an overstatement. You live in a small gathering of large tents, with a total population of around 50.
But what Angorvil lacks in size, it makes up for with its townfolk. A hearty group of the strongest and boldest men and women that the land has to offer have built up this community near a lush blue river, scattered oak trees, and rolling grassy hills.
The folk of Angorvil aren't here for the scenery however. Beyond the tents, a small, unassuming stairway leads to a dungeon widely believed to be the source of a great evil that has been wreaking havoc all across the nation. This band of brave bods have come together to enter the dungeon, and free the land from the corrupting powers of whatever lurks within...
Bumping out of intrest.
Aaah, Welcome, welcome! You are one lucky soul, Fordie van Respier has just resigned before the tourney could even began. A fine replacement you shall be!

The fertile flatland spans horizon to horizon, without end.
It's a beautiful day today, just a few clouds in the blue sky. It always is. Nobody has seen the night sky for centuries.
It was a different world when the Rapture and the Tribulation happened. Seven years of war, plague, destruction. And then, the end of history, the Triumphant Return. All the wiles of the Devil or the cleverness of Humanity could not stop the Divine Plan. Now, in the Millennial Kingdom, Jesus rules from the New Jerusalem Temple over the inexorable wrapping up of History.
It was written that Jerusalem would tower over all nations, so the Earth has been flattened.
It was written that the desert would bloom, so most of the Earth's biological diversity has been eradicated, to allow that to happen.
There is a small group, the Other Light, that intends to do something, anything, to stop this.
Since unbelievers die at 100 -- mere children -- they have taken what they could recover of ancient computers and sensor networks, and built a machine to coordinate their long-term plans.
They built you.
PLANETOGRAPHIC SURVEY: http://emlia.org/pmwiki/pub/web/LeftBeyond.Maps.html God has destroyed most biome diversity.
ECONOMETRIC SURVEY: http://emlia.org/pmwiki/pub/web/LeftBeyond.LBStuff.html God interferes with the economy directly. It's entirely possible for someone with a highly active spiritual life, say a professional roving missionary, to effectively operate in a gift economy while his believing neighbor to the right enjoys a stable free-market economy and his unbelieving neighbor to the left must find and make grey-market deals for everything except for the basic necessities.
STRATEGIC ASSET SURVEY:
STRATEGIC ASSET SURVEY
Your resistence group is a subfaction of The Other Light, the Divinely mandated resistence to His plan - they exist to raise a giant conventional army by Year 1000, just so that God can disintegrate it with one sentence. They have largely accomplished this goal. They believe you to be simply a logistics computer.
The year is +900. There are 100 years (45 generations) remaining.
You have not selected a name for your subfaction yet.
You directly control 3 cabals, 0 bases, and 0 territories.
The Other Light controls 27 cabals, 10 bases, and 0 territories.
The New Jerusalem Government controls 30 missionary teams, 19 bases, and 18 territories, plus New Jerusalem itself.
One cabal must maintain your systems, sensor networks, and assist in operating the logistics functions that are your official mandate. Two are available. All the initial projects are of complexity 2, so they can split their effort (50% success) or they can both work on the same project (100% success).
Options:
# Historical survey indicates that in +55 and +93, attempts were made to breach the water canopy above the atmosphere and regain orbital capabilities. The relevant data, as well as 20th century rocketry programs, can be studied and restored. (Initiate Space Program)
# In +94, the North African region (Egypt) was punished with a drought and renamed Osaze due to not sending representatives to Jerusalem. This has left lingering confusion since the punishment was about Egypt being named after the ancient deity Ptah... except that the country/region calls itself Misr instead. It should be possible to have the local government rename itself, as preparation for starting a confrontation. The Other Light already has a base there, which would then fall under your control. (Subvert a Base; prepare for possible territory takeover)
# The Other Light has built a conventional army, mostly infantry and vehicles. Your projections are that it will be ineffective. It may be possible to begin shifting the focus of this army towards aircraft or cruise missiles. Nuclear weapons would have to be re-researched from scratch.
# Actually, nuclear weapons are a good idea. This is a long term project, and would take much longer than a year to bring to fruition.
You can give a 50% chance of success to two programs, or a 100% chance of success to one program.

You research CONCRETE. It will take 23 rounds.
welcome to CIVO Part II
you'll be controlling 3 tribes.
will you be the ruler of the lands, or will you be crushed by the others?
rules:
>max 4 people per tribe
>max 2 actions per turn
>if population is lower than 4 your tribe dies
some explanations:
>each tribe starts of with 6 points divided over biology, geology and thermodynamics
>besides that you get an extra skill e.g: agriculture, smithing or medicines
>when doing an action that involves one of these skills you get a skill point for that skill
>ones you got 2 skill point at 2 skills you can combine
I know this might seems a little difficult but I think and hope that it wont be too complicated
also: magic, you can obtain it at random points so don't start yelling: "RESEARCH DRAGON CONJURING MAGIC"
okay I'll be posting the first summaries in just a sec so have fun and survive
and if you have any questions feel free to ask ;)

I'm not very good at writing or drawing, so I decided to start a quest (based on the korean webcomic "The Gamer") for practice
>"Michael. Michael. Michael Smith, you get up this instant!"
>The familiar voice berating you begins to slowly drag you out of your slumber
>"That's it. You have until the count of 3."
>"3!"
>Before you can begin to react, all your blankets are ripped off of you, exposing you to the cool morning air
>As you begin to get your bearings straight, you glance over at the source of what is quickly turning into a foul morning mood
>Beside your bed is your neighbor and childhood friend, Emily
>She's your only friend, in fact, although she's closer to an older sister with how long she's spent taking care of you
>Your parents are gone on work most of the time and despite being three months younger than you at some point Emily started doing her best to pick up the slack
>You seem to have slept through your alarm, prompting her to wake you herself, an occurrence in itself not too uncommon
>What is uncommon is what you see floating above Emily's head
>In a bright shade of green are spelled out a level, Emily's name, and some sort of title or class name, "Diviner"
>Deep inside of you fear starts to brew
>It's finally happened. After too many nights playing MMO's and tabletop games instead of sleeping, you've finally lost your mind
>"Are you ok? You look really pale"
Options : 1) Try and ignore it 2) Tell her about what you see
First post to respond with an option gets it
>Try and ignore it
We have no idea what's going on, and no idea if she knows. From how things are going it's safe to assume she might not take our shit anyway lol
>try to ignore it
" I'm fine, nothing to worry about"
>"Then get your butt in gear, we're leaving in 15 minutes"
>You change out of your pajamas and scarf down a bowl of cereal in record time
>Unfortunately, the extra time this affords you is wasted trying to tame your unruly mess of hair
>In the mirror you see words above your own head, "<Level 1>", "<Michael Smith>", "<The Gamer>"
>Emily is just about to start laying on the horn as you hop in to her car
>The car ride through the woods and in to town is unusually quiet, what with you still worrying about the floating words
>Things get much worse as you get in to town and notice similar words above the heads of everyone you pass by
>You do your best to ignore it but can't help but notice a few patterns
>All of your classmates except Emily have the title of "student" and are between the levels of 3 and 6
>Most of the faculty are level 7 through 10 and have titles corresponding to their jobs
>You think you're getting through the day pretty well when something happens while taking notes in math class
*ping*
>A Small notification window pops up alerting you that you are now level 1 in the "Academics" Skill
>"Academics covers your ability to learn and recall information" the window says
>No one else seems to notice
>Every hour a new screen appears saying you've gained another point of Academics experience, for a total of 8 experience at the end of the day. Academics is now level 5
>You notice that each level requires twice as much additional experience as the last to level up
>At the end of the school day you get an additional notification
*ping*
>Through long hours of study, you have gained 1 INT and WIS
*ping*
>You have gained 1 exp. You are now level 2
>A new window pops up, this one resembling a character screen. It appears that you have a point to spend.
How should you allocate it? Or should you save it for later?

The world was once ours and we shared it equally. The forest was our domain and it stretched between all four corners of the world. We lived in peace and upheld the balance. There was death, but no suffering. It was all part of the circle of life. However, all that changed when the creatures with the Red Flower came to this world. Humans, the Guardians called them. They came in the night and burned down our forests, killed our guardians, raped and pillaged our lands. There was no end to their crusade against us and no reason behind their cruelty. We, the creatures of the forest, was brought close to extinction before our salvation came: The World Tree, the center and the roots of our Forest that once spanned the world, called us all back to it. Within its borders the last Guardian, the Great Horned Owl, placed three barrier spells that would keep the Red Flower out and whomever wielded it. Before he fell into a deep slumber from which there would be no awakening, he placed the new role of Guardianship upon the red-eyed Awoo Race. They would guard this new forest realm behind walls of magic until the end of time.
After three centuries of peace, the first of the three barriers has been broken and we received a grim reminder that the Humans would not stop until all Creatures of the Forest lay dead.

He swung horizontally left; split chest from the lower body. Swung horizontally right; decapitated head. Swung diagonally left; upper right side of the chest, right arm, right hand separately, and head removed from the rest of the body. Swung vertically; with little resistance, cut straight through bone, brain, organs, fur, and muscles from head to cock. Swung diagonally right; tried to decapitate half of its head, but only cut straight through the side of the jaw: Sloppy.
Hao arrived to a most gruesome scene, but it didn't rival the things he saw during the invasion of the Forest Realm 3 years past. Before him lay five Awoo: Four dead and one was writhing in pain, holding onto the bloody mess that had once been his jaw, but still very much alive. They must have been caught prowling about outside their safe havens. The Human that had defeated them on his own let his massive blade rest upon his armored shoulder as he gazed down on his prey. Hao scanned the man from behind; The First Knight-Commander of the Northern Legion, the one everyone called 'The Grim Knight'. A man towering above Hao, clad in black armor and wielding a massive sword said to be a Guardian Blade. It was said he felt nothing when he killed these so-called 'Guardians'. From the looks of it, they didn't prove much of a challenge or sport for him.
Hao Sing, the recently promoted Knight-Lieutenant has been tasked to bring the First Knight-Commander his new orders and present himself to the Grim Knight's command. Every Knight-Commander available has been tasked with the same orders and for the last couple of years, they've been scouring the magical wall, looking for what the priests called the 'Axis' which was said to be a single point of weakness in the barrier. It took Humanity around 300 years to attain the knowledge of it, the means to hammer it down, and to find the spot, so this Knight-Lieutenant hoped things would go faster this time around with the former two just about covered.
The last Awoo began to crawl backwards when the commander adorned in black approached him, followed by a woman clad in red robes who carefully kept her distance. Contrary to his Commander, Hao respected the Forest creatures as foes, and he didn't hate them enough to actually give anyone still alive away to the priests. The rumors about the horrid screams from those fanatics' tents at night was not something he wanted to experience firsthand from the priestess that got shoved into the Grim Knight's unit by the Lord-Commander himself. Still, they provided results akin to miracles if left to their own devices and schemes.
>Continued
>>255370
Hao had heard that the only reason the Grim Knight became a Knight-Commander was because he found that Guardian Blade in the crater and actually managed to tame it against all odds. He didn't have any ambitions to lead from what the lieutenant could garner from his character thus far. His true intentions remained unclear.
"Knight-Commander, if I may?" The voice coming from behind belonged to the priestess and Hao already knew what the ugly woman was going to say before she opened her mouth filled with yellow, crocked teeth, "If I could be so bold I would suggest, yes I would, that we keep this last one alive so we can, erhm, test its limits, so to speak, yes, it's limits."
Hao was still not used to hearing such a honeyed voice worthy of a goddess coming from an ugly crow like her, if she could even be called that. He eyed the Awoo that had given up on crawling and were now staring at his Knight-Commander with a defiant look, still holding on tight where part of his jaw had been removed.
"Knight-Lieutenant." The Grim Knight addressed Hao Sing, still towering above the wounded Awoo, "What would you command me to do, had our ranks been reversed?" The question seemed odd. Was he asking for advice or did he want an outright order?

“Were there before me that came to this place?”
“Are there others like you?”
“Why am I here?”
> Take your leave through the door with a farewell.
It was only human to understand just how far you can push your capabilities. Sure you weren't proficient with the Piano, but you knew enough as to what each press of a key meant. You tried to press up to four notes, focusing upon that immaterial power you showed prior. Yet, only two greyish afterimages materialized on the first two keys you pressed. Knowing well just what applications you could use for this ability, you instead focus on the questions you meant to ask him. “I can assume I'm hardly the first one you went to, right? Were there others before me?” You asked, hoping to gleam any form of emotion from Nys, who idly smiled all the while. “I am afraid you're the first and possibly only one. After all...you are the only person from that realm I was able to contact.” He told you, folding his leg as he sat casually on the other side of the bench.
“Fair enough. But are there other people like you? I mean...you haven't told me much about yourself and all.” Now that was a question that made Nys giggle slightly. “My my, you know not what I am, yet you begin to ask just if there are others like me? How curious. After all...you did choose the black key before the white.” He speculated, much to your confusion. “In short, yes. However, I would argue I am not at all like the others of my kind. You could say I was...created for this specific person. They are much different from me, you and I. To them, I have a mental illness, really.” All this, spoken with a calm and reassuring face. Truly, he must be quite something.
Yet, knowing well that staying here any longer would just be wasting time, you make for the door. ”One more thing. I'm not going to accept that half-baked reply earlier. Tell me why I am here, for good.” Tone of voice firm and assertive, you made it known that you wanted to know everything. Yet, to that, Nys smiled and leaned his head to the side. “I am afraid that is all I can say. I feel that...you yourself should find out exactly what you are dealing with.” Nys informed you haughtily. “Hmph. Easy for you to say, considering you're just sitting here and all. Well, whatever. See you later, I guess.” In a way, it was almost comforting, even if he wasn't all that helpful. Yet, you question just why all this was taking place. For what purpose?
As you open the door, vibrant light fills your vision...
Into the light, and then, darkness.
Your eyes open as you are greeted by the oppressive darkness inside your room. It was way too dark, even for a room at night time. The vague shapes of your room could be seen as you make out what looks like a drawer, a table and a TV. The windows were shut close, perhaps a great reason as to why it was dark here.
From the layout alone, you can tell that it was a one-bed apartment without a living room. To your right yo see what looked like a table and a few chairs and off to the right was what seemed like a door, perhaps to the bathroom. A little further left, you find a door with the chain drawn to ensure privacy.
This...was your room, it seemed. Yet, the events of before, with the white-haired young man named Nys felt all too real. He said you were trapped in this place...could he really be telling the truth? Even if this room seemed...foreign to you, you begin to orient yourself as you try and observe your surroundings.
What will you do? (Will answer accordingly)

You don’t tumble to the floor – no, you don’t tumble. You drop. Like a man sapped of his strength and will and breath, your arms are wrap around and clutch desperately to the raven-haired seductress, raw and alive as any inferno had any right to be. You can feel her – you do feel her, through every groove in her clothes, the curve of her hips, you hold and grip as though possessed, frail and paradoxically conscious. Your mind drifts back to that night on the floor, her form beneath you – an unspoken, raw connection between man and woman that brought the both of you beyond your senses.
She’d discarded her top – thirty seconds, thirty minutes ago… who counted these things? Within the reaches of your mind a strong pull drags you between the edges of reality and the dreams of the present. Her chest, tainted by one long, raw, cross-shaped scar across presents itself to you – her arms, powerful and welcoming, wrap around your head. She moans as you stroke against her, taking in all that she had to give in that moment. Her scent is of smoke and earth, a strong and grounded fragrance echoing within you like an assault and a surrender in one instant.
You pull back from her, meeting her lips in a rough, hungry turn, your hands moving under the strap of the only article of clothing remaining; you trace your fingers along her curve again – she’s rough and real, as she always had been. She hungers, desperate and wondrous as a sight, aching for you… you.
You pull back once more, your control returning to the edge of your lips and the tips of your digits. She looks upon you with a gaze that seems to be caught in a dream – as much as you had been, but more. The absurdity of the situation is almost palpable, and raising your hands from her bottom to her bare back, you keep yourself grounded in the now, afraid that if she dragged you in again you don’t think you’d come back – willingly or otherwise.
‘Nagato, we’re… this isn’t…’
She ignores you – of course she would. She descends upon you again, the thin layers of clothing the only thing preventing you from meeting her absolute demand. A phrase plays at the back of your mind, strange and down-turning, but it does keep you conscious and informed. You wouldn’t fall.
‘Mm-hm…’
Her lips are wet and hot, her tongue is the last thing to leave your lips – a tracing and teasing lick that tickles the tip of your nose.
TBC
Her hands push onto your chest with a force you wouldn’t have believed before, but do now. This was Nagato – all Nagato.
‘We’re… we’re breaking proto – !’ You manage to utter between your own cries of lust, grabbing onto her hands as your back meets the plastic mat decisively. ‘You’re breaking protocol.’
She chuckles into your mouth – you can taste her… and she’s just spicy.
‘This is the Command… post…’ You breathe. ‘The Admiral’ll, he’ll…’
That seems to stop her in her tracks. Nagato, despite her manner of undress, manages to return to some sort of familiarity – albeit still resting her full weight on your uncovered nethers. You bite down the red in your cheeks – you did not need to provoke her anymore.
‘You know, for a man who claims he doesn’t have a clue of what women want, you sure do a good job of it.’ You don’t respond, your eyes fixed on her scar. ‘Commander?’
You raise a hand robotically.
‘I’m still reeling from shock, so if you’d give my brain a second to…’ You let out a sigh. ‘There we go.’
Nagato leans forward, her chest pressing against the fabric of your shirt – you prop your arms to support the both of you. She doesn’t seem like she’s in the mood for moving. Not at all.
‘I know this isn’t a very good time, but I honestly can’t believe that you’d consider me your… type.’
‘Why not?’ She looks at you quizically.
‘You strike me as the type that would go for…’ You admit. ‘older, mature and leveled fare.’
‘And who are you to judge me on what I want?’ You almost wince at the tone, but Nagato softens, giving you a quick, assuring peck on the lips. ‘You’re selling yourself a lot shorter than you should.’ She giggles, smirking. ‘Didn’t think you’d be the type to look a gift horse in the mouth.’
‘Only when she’s the Untamable Mustang.’
Nagato frowns, raising a hand to your forehead and giving it a flick. You find a smile working its way onto your features despite this and she nuzzles her nose against your cheek, sighing in content… and release.
‘I know you’re my Commander – you’re our Commander,’ she begins reluctantly – she rambles a bit, ‘and I know that I’m not a Carrier and you don’t think I have needs, but, if you can, I…’
She tips your chin with a hand, bringing you in for another brief kiss, her face crimson.
‘Once in a while, I’d…’ She admits. ‘I’d really like it if you look at me like I’m not… just a KanMusu.’
‘Nagato…’
‘You’re a beautiful man, Commander.’ She pats your chest, ‘Right where it counts.’
You hear the sound of shuffling feet and chaotic conversation.
The Admiral arrives, Ooyodo and Yuubari in tow. He surveys the both of you, eyes narrowing.
‘I hope to Heaven that you both were planning on stopping there.’
