Why did they have to fuck up an otherwise perfect finale, villain and eventual redemption with a villain motivation that makes no fucking sense? Even Twilight calls it out as being ridiculous.
All that was needed was to give Starlight a Babs Seed 2.0 scenario with a different outcome. Being ostracized and bullied for being a blank flank turned Babs into a bully herself. The same thing would've made perfect sense for Starlight's actions as well, but instead of turning into a bully to deal with it she developed a complex about not ponies, but the concept of cutie marks being at fault.
Instead of a traumatized and misguided villain we instead got a whiny brat who associated cutie marks with a childhood friend moving away.

I don't mind. I even welcome the change in the status quo if she indeed becomes Mane 7.
But her motivations for creating Our Town and wanting a society without Cutie Marks was just ridiculous and lacked any kind of seriousness or feels which would make her an empathetic villain, which makes her "redemption" a joke in itself.
