Think about it in real life scenario, if someone said "your town is about to be attacked by psychos in masks with chainsaws" you'd be like ok...well we gotta deal with this shit I guess, however if you were in a haunted house you assumed/knew was all fake and suddenly a bunch of actual psychos in masks showed up and started chasing you...

I'm not sure how to describe my feelings about this.
It's like your friend got cancer and became really depressing to be around, so you cut them out of your life and had mostly forgotten them. Then you hear from an acquaintance that their cancer has spread, it's now confirmed to be terminal, that they can no longer function on a day to day basis and suffer from chronic pain.
