Does anyone else here feel sort of..... naked without a gun? When I have to leave my pistol somewhere, I don't feel helpless or defenseless, I just feel like a piece of me is missing. Like I left the house without shoes on, or something. Anyone else feel like this?

yeah, especially went I got out of Iraq. I sometimes carried 2 at once and had another in the glove box. Maybe it was just the stress of changing back into normal life, but id really hate to go through all of that just to get killed by some street thug back home.

Newfag to /k/ here, I was wondering which rifle is a good one to buy as my first.
I've had a lot of experience with guns, but I don't own one of my own yet (recently turned 18, so I could only use my dad's until now). Caliber doesn't matter to me, I just want a solid and reliable rifle for under $800.
Also my friend has an SKS and I've been looking at that for a while. I'm wondering if I should get that as of now

This guy has the right idea with a shotgun being a good first gun. They're relatively inexpensive and fun to shoot. Plus practical.
You can build a good AR for around that price. Later, build another upper for a different caliber and use the same lower if you want to hunt larger game or make bigger holes in shit.

My family is starting a weed farm, a 100% legal one, and I'm being brought on to be the night security guard because they want someone they can trust. Problem is, I've only ever fired a gun on a shooting range, and only a few times. I have no experience with maintenance. I'm going to be getting a concealed carry permit and get some shooting lessons, but I need to pick a gun. So this is sorta a 'what gun should I get'/'got any tips for someone's first gun?' thread.
It's Oregon, in case that has much of an impact on the gun laws. I think the main difference is that short-barreled shotguns are outlawed?
My first inclination is to just go get an AR-15 but I'm interested if there's other opinions. I think too many people go out of their way to cosplay blackwater and I'm not sure if I'm into that.

Just go with an Ar-15. No need to get all tacticool with your gear though, but a rifle gives you a solid amount of firepower, accuracy and range, all of which will be good if a group of shitskins or tweakers want to take that weed for themselves.

There isn't one. It's objectively pretty good, except for the heavy trigger. Grip is excellent, sights are shitty, trigger is heavy but breaks well. It's as long as a Glock 26, with a grip length similar to the Glock 19. A decent inexpensive CCW choice.
Considering it sells for 200$ NIB with 2 mags, it's pretty awesome, and Taurus lifetime warranty works okay. I would choose this before a Hi Point. Don't get me wrong, there are far better guns out there, but you're getting a lot of gun for 200$.

I got an MTAC on ebay for roughly the same amount of cash and I love it.
If you're planning on using it as only a range/hunting rifle, then 3x9 might be ok, but if you're planning on jumping around the house at night just in case anyone might be hiding in your closet n shit, then you'll want a lower base magnification, like 1 or 1.5x to basically give you a red-dot.
