So what is a good deer (and elk, maybe) rifle, in bolt action?
Is 30-06 ok for that?
Also, what's a good brand of not very expensive scopes for deer hunting?

30-06 would be fine. If you are serious about elk hunting, maybe consider a 300WinMag or 7mmRemMag. Any of the budget rifles, save Remington, will be okay. Personally, I would lean more towards the Savage Axis, though the Marlin XL7, Mossberg Patriot, and Winchester XPR are all generally okay.
Most cheap scopes are made on contract by Chinese companies and can vary from model to model. Most 3-9x40 Chinkshit is servicable, though not really good. If you can, buy a Redfield.

30-06 is fine.
You can buy one of Savage's rifle packages at almost any gun store that sells hunting rifles for very cheap, and Savage makes genuinely good rifles made in America.
A Savage Axis II XP would probably be something up your ally.
Pic related are also really nice but the price is going to go up when you factor in a scope + rings.
For scopes I would recommend Redfield, which is Leupold's entry level brand that practically the same.
And yes, 30-06 is great for deer and elk. Don't listen to retards on here that think if you shoot an elk with anything short of a 300 RUM you're not going to break it's skin.

Alright /k/, we talk about games, movies, and tv shows that trigger our autism, we also talk about ones that soothe it. How about we talk about ones that manage to do both at the same time? For me its pic related:

realistic shits killed the industry since every shooting game has to be a simulation, every racing game has to be a simulation, so everything is the same for almost a decade.

I shot a glock 17 and Sig P226 at the range yesterday, I am really liking the Sig, but the glock seems so simple. Money is really not an issue, I have $1400 to spend.
So tell me /K/, what do you keep on your night stand and why?
P229 enhanced with Viridian laser/light.
Lazer/light cuz tacticool and lights off situations. I carry a small blowback .380 cause its light and small. But the Sig with 15+1 rounds and a lazerlight is heavy and a bit annoying to carry so its a glovebox/nightsand.
No safety cuz its one more thing to train on, SDA so it technically does have a safety feature. Night sites with light and lazer for every advantage I can get.

I keep two 9mm and one .380. a 92FS, a P229 Enhanced, and a P230. they all have S/DA triggers and feel similar. I go to the range and shoot lots and lots of 9mm and would say I'm pretty decent. This is at 10 yards from the holster hammer pairs. Shooting both eyes open as well. I see old guys next to me in the range shotgunning a fucking target. But thell shoot 50 rounds of .22 in what looked like a 1911. Then he pulls out a Glock in 9mm. Then an HK in .45. I'm like wtf you own all these funs with such different characteristics and you shoot all of them like shit. His target looked like it was hit with a bird shot. If you enjoy shooting and collecting as a hobby then hey enjoy, but I guess I take to more realist/classic thinking. I have few and similar handguns, all with holsters, lost of mags, light/lasers ect. This guy has so many pistols all in a foam box. No extra mags no holsters and poor proficiency on all of them.
Whats /k/'s opinion on owning a fuck load of funs all with very different characteristics and triggers, and at the same time being, not proficient, with any of them. Isn't this foolish? Fun collections are cool but damn you need to dime out on ammo and apply the fucking fundamentals.

Hello /k/, I'm currently in school to become an LEO and soon to be working in a prison part time.
I've got a little money saved up, and would like to buy a handgun to start practicing. All I own right now are rifles since I'm under 21 and I'm a shit shot with them anyway.
What would be a good handgun to get started practicing on? Would it be an awful idea to get a semi auto .22 like a ruger or something? I don't really have the money to spend on 9mm to practice with a lot.
If I get good aim with a .22 is it going to carry over to a service handgun I'm given?
Or should I eat the cost and start out with 9mm?

It is always a good idea to practice with the weapon you will be carrying simply because that is the one you would be using. I mean it does not hurt to practice with something else for overall marksmanship practice, but for what you are asking I would say go with the 9mm.
