Hey fags.
Gonna be 20 in a couple months. Currently studying education. Plan is to become a middle school math teacher. Unfortunately, not only am I young and stupid, but also 5'6" and with a manlet complex. And I just don't feel like I'm really doing anything with my life, and setting myself up for disappointment and regret.
I have always liked the military, and everything about it. I am definitely considering the military all over again. Unfortunately, I am not a US citizen, nor am I a permanent resident yet. I'm here on a student visa, working on my masters. My family has worked long and hard hours to be able to help me out, and my job at my school does little to pay for tuition, much less room and board, so I never enlisted out of fear of throwing all that away. However, I've brought it up to them before, and they said to not even consider it anymore. They're scared that being a foreign minority, I'll just be deployed as cannon fodder, and despite how prepared and educated I may be, I can't say I wouldn't doubt it. So what I'm here to ask is:

Aside from that, being a minority doesn't matter. Cannon fodder jobs mostly go to white guys with oper8tor dreams and no desire to build civilian skills.
I've noticed a decided lack of soft armor being worn by people in the "tactical" crowd. Most of what I see is plate carriers, often without side protection. Is this really the best way to protect ones self?
The way I see it, most of what you're going to be seeing in terms of active shooters and things like that are pistols and shotguns, which level IIIA soft armor will stop (with the exception of slugs) with little to no issue, while having (often) better coverage and being more easily concealable than a plate carrier.
Now, before people go all sperglord and call me a pussy for not EXERCIZING MUH RIGHTS and walking around in public with my plate carrier on. Think about this for a second. If someone sees what is obviously body armor on your chest, if they decide to shoot up the place, it would stand to reason that the guy wearing body armor probably has a gun, so they're gonna try to shoot you first, and also, provided they have more than two brain cells to rub together, they're gonna try to shoot you in the face.
Whereas if you have soft armor on under your clothing (I wear baggy pullover hoodies on the regular) and you have your carry pistol likewise concealed, you just look like some dude, so the odds are that you aren't going to be a higher priority than anybody else, and if they do try to shoot you, they're going to try to shoot you in the chest. Now, the obvious drawback is that if they have a rifle, your armor isn't going to do shit. But I'd argue that if there's going to be rifles involved, there's going to be multiple guys with rifles involved, and possibly even explosives, and in that situation you're pretty much fucked no matter what.
I don't know, what do you guys think?

no functioning human is walking around town with a plate carrier.If you want to wear soft armor, that is on you. i personally think its not necessary. but i also don't wear baggy clothes because i like to dress well.

The Black Knight has eight boxer-configuration four-cylinder gasoline engines with seven-foot, two-blade rotors that connect to the body of the helo via A-arms. The engines drive the rotors directly, with no conventional helicopter transmission, swash plate, or tail rotor. To remain stable, Black Knight uses differential thrust between opposing sets of prop-rotors controlled through Advanced Tactics' proprietary stability control software.
"It takes away the mechanical complexity of a helicopter and moves that complexity into the software," Jehangir says. "All the stability and control is done via high-speed computerized feedback."
The engine-rotor combos connect to a boxy fuselage on wheels, which houses a gasoline-powered automotive drivetrain complete with transmission, steering, and brakes. When the Black Knight transforms into drive mode, its engines and rotors fold up against the fuselage to yield an 8.5-foot-wide ground vehicle.
