Brad Rigney was a hardcore alcoholic and I think only turned his life around and started art sometime in his late 20's or early 30's. El Coro was into the drug scene and turned his life around after a car of him and his friends ran over a cop, though he started in art I think in his early 20's or something, not late 20's. Min Yum started at 25. Craig Mullins only started painting at 23.

There are probably other examples but those are the ones I know off the top of my head. They are outliers...

Some old guy showed me a drawing of his and I literally made that face at it like the retard I am. He's just a nice old guy who was trying his best, worst of all is they weren't even really that bad, /ic/ just brainwashed me into getting that triggered whenever I see anything that isn't 100% Loomis. I think when just starting out cheap materials are alright to learn the techniques and get a feel for how the paint works. It absolutely has to be watercolour paper though.

Better (and more expensive) paint makes a huge difference though, if anything just for how dark the pure paints are. If you use cheaper paint you'll have to add black or dark brown which tends to make the darker colours a lot less vibrant.

OP do you have painting experience? If not I'd suggest you start out with gouache, which are opaque watercolours. Regular watercolours are very unforgiving and pretty much the hardest medium to make something aesthetically pleasing with, which is why I suggest you develop a feeling for painting first with a more forgiving but similar medium.

Depends on the hardware and software you want to use.

I use Clip Studio Paint Pro and a Wacom Bamboo Capture with a laptop that has 6gb RAM and a 2.5GHz i3 processer and it works fine

Most people need somewhere from a couple hours to a week to get used to the dynamic of looking at the screen cursor when you draw. Also your lines aren't as confident as they should be (or as they are in the pencil sketch).

thats easily solveable. i attached a paper from my sketchbook on top of my tablet so it feels much more natural. recently tried removing it - it still feels odd to draw on that non-friction shiny area.

Its really weird to see a self portrait she did of herself because she's a face that artist's love to draw all the time. Its..really strange....but interesting. To see herself experience her own super-pretty face. I wish he would have documented more artwork by her, it would have been interesting to see.
