I didn't see a thread about this yet? And I know /ck/ loves fast food.
Who's tried them? Opinions?

decided to try them after seeing the poster in the window, they're 'okay' it's like munching into a puffed cheeto with day old mac n cheese in the center

The texture is like biting into a day old Dog Turd you found outside.

If you can get past that, they actually taste decent. Just another unhealthy fast food
>>
Its unusual, and the idea intrigues me. I have a feeling Ill be disappointed, sounds like the texture of the pasta inside is shitty?
But that said, its definitely something I wont be able to make at home, so I'm real curious.
And yes, this definitely isn't something Amerifats really needed, but are getting anyway.

What foods do you find overpriced?

Gotta say, as much as I enjoy Pork Belly it is fucking ridiculously over priced. Was gonna buy some to make some Pork Belly sandwiches this weekend but I could've bought two legs of lamb for what they were charging.

Duck is another one I love that's really overpriced but that may be due to difficult farming or something. Wouldn't have thought so though because it's dirt cheap in Asia.

That sort of thing depends greatly on where you live.

In my area (Texas), pork belly is very cheap.

Ducks are expensive. I assume that's because duck is not commonly eaten around here--it's only really a thing around holidays, and even then it competes with turkey, roast beef, etc. Also, a lot of people go duck hunting, so I assume that's where they get their duck meat from rather than shopping.

Also, I do happen to know from a friend of mine who raises animals that ducks eat a lot more feed per finished weight than chickens do so they are more expensive to raise.
>>
>pork belly
>costs more than lamb
Aussie? Cuz pork belly is dirt-fucking-cheap here in Ameriland. I can get it for $2.49/lb at the supermarket nearest my house.

>duck
>expensive
Not so much. Duck breast costs a lot here ($5.99/lb), but leg quarters ($1.99/lb) and wings ($1.29) are way cheaper. Wings have no meat to them, so I use them only for making stock, but then I use that stock plus the legs to make various duck dishes. Duck curry is nice.
Whole duck is $2.49/lb, but I seldom buy it.
>>
>>7834603
>Aussie?

Yup.

Lamb leg has recently had a price drop nationwide lead by the major supermarkets dropping it to $9 a kg.

>Whole duck is $2.49/lb, but I seldom buy it.

Neither do and it's actually quite reasonably priced here to, at least compared to breasts which are also expensive as fuck. I've always wanted to roast a duck but never have. No idea why. Might have to do that next weekend.

Can you consciously change your tastes so that you enjoy something? I've never liked pickles, but I want to like them because they're everywhere and on everything and all my friends eat them and I've heard a crisp pickle is god tier on a hot summer day. If I just force myself to eat them for a while will I get used to it and start enjoying them?

yeah man. Half of food preference is just operant conditioning.
>>
Yes you just have to get a good variety. I hated sauerkraut until I tasted one that was godlike, since then I somehow like the lesser sauerkrauts as well
>>
>>7834527
Yes you can. I used to hate pickles, but now they are pretty decent because I simply wanted to like them.

So last night I got drunk and decided to go to the night store to buy more beer. I bought a few Tyskie's and came to realise that I have been drinking the wrong beer for the past 10 years. Who else appreciates Tyskie?

I only drink it when I'm at my favourite Polish restaurant. It's not bad. What's your usual beer, then?

Burnt or undercooked everything. It's like eating rubber. You can use a "potato wedge" as a shiv. Breakfast is decent tho.

Hey /ck/ I have a roommate problem. I just got a brand new cast Iron as a gift. Used it a few times. I tend to have to watch my kitchen shit as my roommate likes to just destroy everything.

Needless to say, I'm on edge about them using my shit. Today, my roommate heated up my cast iron to 750 degrees to sear his steak. Asked him not to, but he did it anyway. I'm nervous this will become the new way he cancer-izes all of his pork and beef. He swears it's "totally fine".

Before I have to be a complete fag and either take my pan away (all of his are fucked, he fucked the coating on my other ones) or seriously ask him not to use it...am I getting worked up about nothing? Worked he's going to just cook all the seasoning away on it.

If he fucked up the other ones, make him use those instead.

I don't know much about steak, but 750 sounds too high. Looked on google and first thing I read was 400-550 degrees
>>
>>7833980
Thats as hot as a household stove can get to
No idea how OPs roommate is doing it
>>

How do you guys minimize the mess you make in the kitchen after cooking? Is there anything in particular you do to reduce the number of pots and pans to wash after preparing a meal? Do you clean as you go? Use one pan as much as possible?

This might sound like a dumb question, but I'm really curious to see if there is any way to help keep this more manageable. Cooking is fun, but dealing with the dishes afterwards isn't, especially if you live alone.

I have some all purpose garbage brush that looks like a toilet wand. I scrub out pots and pans with it as I go and run whatever down the drain. I wash the stuff with soap later.
>>
well, you see I clean my dished when I'm done

in the sink!

then throw away solids in the trash, and things that decompose in my compost

I usually clean dished as I go along
>>
>>7833607

I rinse everything really well when I'm done cooking and put that shit in my dishwashing machine because I'm not a poor fucking troglodyte that has to wash my dishes by hand.

Is Dairy Queen the most disgusting restaurant? I'm very familiar with only 3 Dairy Queens, but they're all terrible. The food is pretty good, but I can't stand going. There are two in northern Iowa I've been to. Both are slow as ass. One of them is nice and clean on the inside, but the other is filthy. Full of flies, and it has these awful purple seats. It's the most visually repulsive restaurant I've ever been in.

The other is in a small coal mining town in Virginia. A little bit faster, but almost as dirty. I feel gross sitting in there. I keep thinking that surly they would be shut down if it's dangerous, but I'm not positive. It's really gross. Are all Dairy Queens like this?

Either them or waffle house.

I haven't been to either very many times. But I remember that EVERYTHING at DQ had this very odd greasy taste. They must use a pecuilar oil for their deep fryer.

And dirty--yeah. The tables, chairs, etc. were all sort of sticky/greasy to the touch--as though they had been wiped with a dirty rag, but there was never any actual soap involved.

where i live we have two DQs

one is a corporate grill n chill restaurant where the inside is clean modern and the food actually comes out good.

The other looks like its straight from the 80s, has christian messages everywhere and closes every sunday.

its dirty and old inside and they always jew you on food, like giving you tiny ass pieces of chicken in your strip basket.

needless to say i go to the one that isnt a Christian fuckhole
