They should have made a completely new one once they lost the rights to the WWF name. They kept this bastardized logo for far too long and it just reminded everyone that the WWF was dead. The new one isn't much better, it's basically the same, they need a full and proper rebrand to try and get out of the shadow of what they used to be

So we can make the assumption that Smackdown is the New era guys, as well as the more technical and proficient wrestlers.
