Pittsburgh's local anime convention is coming up, and much to my surprise, I'm still going.
The schedule is finally out, and I have to say - for an anime convention, there sure aren't very many anime panels. Good thing we have a bunch of social justice panels, though, right? Right?

the theme they have going this year is great inspiration for my coordinates. it's nice to see variety in a convention, and it's a nice break from the usual midwest cons. this year will be my first year.

This will be my 7th or 8th year going and all I've seen is improvement over the years. I hope you enjoy yourself, it looks like it will be a good year especially for those interested in fashion programming.

I'm kinda looking forward to Japanfest in Munich, our comm always holds a meetup there and the scenery is lovely, plus there's always some interesting food stands and other stuff

Going all three days (Tea Party, Saturday and Sunday) hoping to be graced by Misako. Otherwise, I'll mosty go to the AA. I'm playing with the thought of doing an AA table one day myself, so I'll be checking everything out. I'll buy everything I like there, and plan to spend most of my budget on AA. As said, it can't hurt to check out fellow artists and see what they produce, sell and have some reference as well as nice artwork.
Otherwise I'll go to the fashion show, laugh at weeaboos and look what my friends are up to.

I've noticed that merch is EXTREMLY overpriced. Last two cons I went to, (official) merchandise like figures, figma or bags/accessories where double and triple the original retail price, which is just laughable. Even if you negotiate them down a bit, it's still cheaper to fly that stuff in from Japan and pay customs than buying it at the convention.
Weirdly plushies seem to be the exception, these are usually reasonably priced.

There's so many photographers here that unless someone is truly absolutely incredibly talented, it's a hobby job and you don't make money

Need help, I'm going to a con and need three coords. One I am sure about so I won't bother posting it. I have a few questions on these. One, should I coord the dress on the left with pink accessories or brown (or both, and how?), and which shoes? Two, what neckline blouse for the pink dress, the square or high neck? Three, should I wear brown shoes or navy? Are two small bows for my hair enough, or do I need more, and what color (besides sax, I don't have any in sax). Finally, needing some hair/ wig style advice. I usually just wear a plain wig or curl my hair...

Anon, if you're taking all of this in a suitcase then we need to see the first coord. Try bringing only 1 pair of shoes for the entire 3 days, they're big and clunky and annoying. Same purse, too. Try reusing items in coords, it'll be good for you.

What exactly is “lolita”? What is it trying to achieve? It is an alternative fashion, obviously. So, then, doesn’t that imply that you dress in lolita as a way of rebelling against some sort of mainstream ideology? Clearly, lolita has counterculture elements. You’re dressing in unusual ways and joining communities for those who share your style. But why? Who are you trying to rebel against? As lolita is a sub fashion where girls gain reputation and fame by buying expensive things and posting pictures online, it’s not surprising that it tends to attract some bland people. I click the link to a lolitas Tumblr and, about 90% of the time, it’s content is indistinguishable from any other lolitas. Heck, I’m not even going to restrict it to lolita, they look just like most Tumblr pages I’ve seen. I don’t see many girls who make lolita into their main “thing”. Ask yourself this, why are you a lolita? Would you call yourself a lolita, or do you adapt many different substyles for their aesthetic without consideration for the meaning behind it? Are you a lolita because your friends are doing it? Because popular Tumblr girls are doing it? Because it’s an easy sub fashion to gain fame within if you have enough money?
