I'm the anon that posted about the sizing question for AP's M and L in the deleted thread and a wonderful anon mentioned there were sizes next to the care tag. I just checked my other AP dresses and I can't find them

>royal chocolate skirt

Could you post a pic of yours?

Man, I wish simple, monochrome prints would come back. I wish brands did more applique and embroidery pieces too, because I prefer that to prints most of the time.

I'm with you there. It seems like only IW is really into that sort of thing anymore. I guess the cost of producing elaborate applique pieces like Baby used to do is just too high now? Or perhaps it just takes longer and has a wider margin for error. I really don't know what keeps them from doing it otherwise.

>>

This gives me nostalgic vibes for some reason. I've never really been into AP, so maybe I'm completely off-base, but it looks like the sort of thing you'd see the Oregon girls wearing back in the day. Especially that red.

>>
>>8959250
I'm not complaining about the Another ____ Print situation, it's just interesting how much they stick to their season motif cycle. Berries in spring, chocolate in autumn, etc.

The other brands do it, too, but rarely do the prints and final pieces look as similar as AP's do.

The only one I can think of off hand is Meta's Strawberry Cream series, and then the CL release they did a few years later. And that was mostly because of the unusual shade of green they used for both releases.

Good, but a bit unusual. I have two pieces from them and love them both, but one of them is strangely assembled. The zipper goes up the back, which isn't odd in itself, and then has corset lacing over the top, which is.

Does anyone feel like the international community is kind of falling apart? All of the sites I used to visit are so less active than they once were, and even for active comms there is little new discussion. The great blogs are all dead, and the fashion seems to have not just changed in appearance, but in mindset. Its hard to put this in to words.

Lolita used to feel special to me, and the comm was a part of that. But now I feel very alone and disenchanted with the community. I still love the clothes but that "lolita magic" (did anyone else get this?) is gone.
>>
>>8961830
I think, though, as the international community has become more fragmented, a lot of smaller communities have flourished. In the early days, having an "international hub" was great to find people of similar interest at a time when the fashion was small, but something like that is now more detrimental to the fashion more than anything. The fashion has been made too rigid by the western community, and it's damaging it. There's so much bickering about "uugh this isn't a substyle" or "uugh her shoes are a half-tone lighter than her dress" instead of just coming together to enjoy wearing it.

Everyday lolitas represent

I wear lolita to work and it rules. I more or less live in full shirring meta mini skirts, they're so comfy (relatively speaking). The office is cold so I'll be alright in the summer. I just got a couple of taobao dresses for warm weather. When it comes to shopping, I buy almost everything secondhand and cheap out on work blouses ("cutsews" from f21 and h&m, don't really care if I look normie in the office).

I'm also really excited to carry a parasol this summer. Like what a fucking awesome idea. I burn like crazy and yeah it's a pain in the ass to carry an extra thing around but imagine...portable shade...

gulls, do you like parasols?
>>
>>8961853
I want a nice parasol but don't want to pay 30-50$. I don't mind paying tons for dresses and blouses, but there's just something about a parasol that makes me cheap out. I guess maybe since I lose umbrellas a lot?
>>
>>8961853
I love parasols! I recently got my third one and am tempted to buy another, even though I don't really need it. They're beautiful and super useful and honestly they're of my most favorite things about the fashion.
>>
>>8961853
>>8961324
I try to be everyday lolita but havent amassed enough summer clothing quite yet. I need more socks so I can stop wearing tights and more blouses that actually fit.

Seeing you two talk about cutsews and cardigans from bodyline/normie stores makes me feel better though. The blouses I have right now are just way too thick for summer!

Also yes, I want a parasol so bad.
>>
>>8961386
They're the honey badgers of the bug world
>>
>>8961853
I think parasols with casual don't look so nice.
>>
>>8961899
Neither do sunburns.
>>
>>8961899
Depends on how casual you go. I prefer blouses 90% of the time, my cutsews are for truly lazy days, esp. inside the house. Going out with a parasol is not for lazy days.
>>
Have you gulls ever shipped a parasol overseas? Is the cost much different than a dress? I'd like a pink Baby one, but finding a cute one in stock is a bitch and I'm not sure if it would be worth it trying to find one on an auction site.
>>
>>8961996
it's a bit pricier since it's an unconventional package dimension.
>>
>>8961996
I've never shipped a parasol but I've bought one from y!j before. The shipping was just a bit more expensive than what I usually pay for shipping for dresses, which is expected because like >>8962013 said the package itself isn't standard, but it wasn't unreasonable. Totally worth it imo.
>>
>sold item on LM, hurrah!
>buyer doesn't know how LM works, has zero feedback
>mfw I need to walk them through this
I'm dreading them asking me how to use Paypal, and/or the first invoice not being received correctly
Gulls, why this? I really need the money, but I wish noobs could at least take a little time to read up on how to use the site and/or Paypal before jumping on the "buy" button, or at least ask BEFORE they buy. It makes me kinda nervous that shit will go down because they're new and don't know what the fuck to do.
>>
>>8962297
a) make sure you ship with tracking and ONLY to the address they give via the invoice, b) make sure you put tracking into PayPal and an email to them to be sure they got it and PayPal can see it, c) take photos of the item up close before, during, and after packing and d) if possible, get a photo of the package with address and postage affixed.

Because while they may just be new, protecting your ass is always worth it in the event that they try to pull a fast one, and blame it on ignorance.
>>
what happened to the chicago comm? I wanted to join but it doesn't look like they're active anymore ;_;
>>

The reply to your last enquiry got deleted, but here you go:

>The Comm's name is Chigothloli. If you check their events page, they have a number of events to go to from now till June. Keep in mind, they do not have events set up for ACen which is next month and International Lolita Day in June. They do intermingle with the Milwaukee Comm.

>Also a lot of us are busy with work too. The ones with brand and have been in the fashion for years have degrees and full time jobs.

>I love the Comm especially with all the riff-raff and drama llamas gone or neutered.
>>
>>8962358

What do you guys do when you lose buttons on your dresses? Do you replace all of the remaining buttons with new ones so there's cohesion or do you just replace the one?

Are there good places to look for replacement buttons? My local JoAnn's isn't too great.
>>
>>8962423
Depends on the item. Cardigans and blouses from brands come with spares attached to the care tag most of the time. Some of my JSKs have as well. If I still have that button, I'll use it to replace the missing one.

If several/more than I have spares to replace have gone missing, I'll just replace them all with cute ones in the same size. There's a quilting shop near me that always has some really cute ones.

Get off your ass and start planning meets yourself, or don't complain.
>>
>>8962477
Contact the mod(s), find out why. Then unless they will do so, do what >>8962519 suggests.
In some comms, just planning meets out of the blue without at least reaching out to the comm mods will cause static. In others, anyone plans meets or there are none. Find out what's going on and why first.
>>
>>8962297
Oh god, if I have to walk people through LM or Paypal, I just cancel the order and tell them I'm not an instruction manual. It's not worth the headache and the newbies will find something to bitch about.

I could never do this in my comm since only one girl can host meets.

Also take this discussion to the comm thread since you will get more help there.
>>
>>8962516
Depends on the cost of the dresses and your finances. If spending is a concern, set an allowance for yourself to spend on lolita stuff and don't exceed it.

By your "trying to add 2 a month" I'm not sure if that means you're new or building a new wardrobe? Personally I wait for things on my wishlist to come up rather than seeking stuff out to buy since I have enough pieces atm.
>>
>>8962531
Make a new comm.
>>
>>8962552

finances aren't a concern

I should buy more to rub it in people's faces though right? 2 AP pieces a month isn't enough to do that right?
>>
IW's Oddment pack is the one with all the rejects right? Is it ever worth it?
>>
>>8962567
This is such a boring attitude if it's not bait. No one besides those in their late teens early twenties really care anon, if that's how you want to spend your time making dumb jealous teenagers upset then by all means, you do you.
>>
>>8962567
2 sweet AP pieces per month plus accessories ought to do it. Sweet are usually the noisiest buyers and content with a piece every few months so if you buy and post 2 new coords a month every month that should impress. Must make WTB collage posts, post coord pix and collages, floor donates, do photo shoots and 'waiting for mail' collages and post current wardrobe count all the time though! So you better get busy so we can hurry and be so jealous quickly. (Eye roll)
>>
>>8962587
>if that's how you want to spend your time making dumb jealous teenagers upset

why WOULDNT you want to spend your time making dumb jealous teenagers upset?
>>
speaking of oddments, i noticed they didn't do a/b/c packs for this one, how much can we expect to actually be in it? i'm extremely tempted, but i was hoping for a standard 'c' pack more than 'a' or 'b' style packs so...
>>
>>8962567
Sweet isn't even top style right now so good luck. Why not just buy what pleases you and post it if you want people to admire what you buy.

Most of us have bought 2 main pieces in a month though so you'd have to at least do that every month and some of us don't buy used stuff so it had better be new or NWT. And of course burando, no offbrand or TaoBao crap. Better drop a grand on brand every month, and shoes in every color too, don't forget.
>>
>>8962592

This so much. Lolita feels dead. The "magic" of it disappeared a lot if not completely..it makes me a bit depressed. Sometimes i go and see old LJ comms like angry lace or wtf burando or that one dedicated to lifestyle, old blogs, dead blogs, old pics and dead links..
It makes me feel so sad and there is nothing i can do. I tried making a blog and stuff and updated every week but it barely got any attention.

I wish for lolita magic to come back..

It's such a weird juvenile mindset but you are 22 after all so I guess it's to be expected. It's one of those things that don't really matter whatsoever until you've made sure everyone is fully aware of your spending habits, for what purpose I still don't understand, to feel important? I always try to downplay my spending as I can easily throw down, but that's not the kind of attention I would want, I don't want people up in my business.
>>
>>8961324
Another almost-everyday lolita here! I wear handmade/bodyline skirts, cute normie t-shirts and ankle socks in the summer. I think cutsews are hard to obtain cheaply if you are not big on secondhand. I just can't convince myself to spurt dollars for a jersey shirt.
>>
Did anyone manage to get an IW oddment pack?
>>
>>8962862

>>
>>8961830
Lolita is experiencing a decentralization right now. In a way we're becoming morw like Japanese lolitas who only stick to their in groups. One reason is that there's no good place to congregate anymore, but also because people are sick and tired of every post and comment being taken out of context and nitpicked. You see, cgl, we are our own cancer, nay, our own auto-immune disease.
>>
>>8962673
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. We have the old school revival group on Facebook but it's just not the same. I miss the magic so much and I don't know how to bring it back.

For me it was in the little lifestyle-y things - I learned to knit, I took up embroidery, I read classical books and listened to (still do) what I considered to be lolita music. And I wasn't always good at it, but that wasn't the point.

What was your blog? I created one but I was stuck on what to write about.

To really rub it in? Sweet lolita, right? 2 pieces per month is kinda normal. There's already girls out there who probably buy almost every print AP releases, so they're already ahead of you.

What you need to do is buy multiple sets of *every* AP release. If AP posts a buying restriction, aim to buy 3 sets instead of 2. If it's a hyped up bloodbath print and AP posts buying restrictions, aim to buy one set in every single colourway. Plus accessories, blouse and bags and extras. Get all the novelties as well. It feeds into your excuse that you just love this print (while feeding into the jealousy of those who come out empty-handed).

It specifically has to be AP. IW has a hype print maybe once a year. Baby/Aatp, Meta take too long between reservations and sending you the dress, you lose valuable hype there, plus they both like to restock often. AP has the most limited quantities and immediate gratification, so the most hype as well.

Make sure you get the dresses fresh, when the hype is at its highest -- people are either looking for owner/worn photos, or looking to buy a dress they missed out on. That's when you'll get the most jellies. A few months down the track half the teens are bored and have moved on.

Do this consistently for a handful of releases -- 5 boring releases in a row ought to get you noticed, or 3 popular releases will be enough -- pretty soon you'll have your own pack of jelly teens out for your blood. Sprinkle in some complete sets from AatP, hype prints from IW and other brands, and your rubbing in is complete.

You'll also run out of space really fast, since we're more or less looking at 40-50 releases a year, x 2-5 colourways, so you're looking at adding a literal hundred dresses per year, plus the matching accessories, bags and things... hope your space is as accommodating as your wallet.

Oh yeah? I should join it.

It was called "beyond the secret garden" (melancholicmaiden).
I would write about little things happening in everyday life like wandering in the woods or having a special treat at a cafe, my love for lolita the why and how,..

I miss that whole "lifestyle" aspect of lolita. Today i feel like it's all about efame and popularity, rubbing your money in other's face by spending on brand items and the last print you don't even like that much for some recognition, having the biggest wardrobe,...
Money and fame. Lolita just seems about it now. Now, not ALL lolitas are like that but many have gone down that path.

Like sure, i wish i had more money to spend more on what i like and i wish i was a bit known. Not famous, but just so i would have more people to share with.
Also Facebook/Instagram ruined a lot of things and marked the end of the blogging era
>>
um... why was commenting turned off on lolita updates for the oddments post? it's not even been 24 hours yet? what's wrong with discussing it?
>>
>>8961324
I'm not an everyday lolita due to work but it makes up the majority of my non work clothing. I don't wear strict lolita in summer, I do a lot of bare shoulders/bare legs/cute sandals outfits which I guess fall under the lolita-inspired section. I have a lot of sleeveless tops and blouses from brands like Emily Temple Cute or cute normie ones or stuff I've bought off Ali/ebay/taobao. I find synthetics and the relative tightness of cutsew sleeves to be too sweaty in summer, so I tend to go for cotton sleeveless blouses when I can.

Anyone have any basic tips for hosting a tea party?

Also, it's sponsored through an anime club but there are a decent amount of lolitas in our club and only a couple weebs. It's going to be an open event so the local comm is also able to come. Would a dress code be sufficient to keep out the weebs or do you gulls have better ideas? The club president and I both agree that there will be no anime related paraphernalia and that it should be a fairly authentic event.

Not AYRT but I'm garbage at sewing. I love cutsews so I feel like I'm cursed because I can't drop big money for a t shirt either (actually I'm poorfag so I don't spend much on Lolita in the first place and hunt for bargains.)

I do have one cutsew but it's technically an unusually loli-able t shirt I found 2nd hand NWOT. I think it's an older forever 21 shirt.

What is everyone's favourite compliment when it comes to your appearance while wearing your coord?

Mine is when people say I look like a doll. It makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside.
>>

This isn't necessarily my favourite, but definitely most amusing. Last Halloween I was passing through my city's gay village in a witch coord when a walking gay stereotype across the street shouted "YASSS SHE CAME HERE TO WERK, BITCH!!" at the top of his lungs.
>>
>>8963194
Read the dress code of a lolita tea on any con page. Usually explicitly excludes cosplay of any kind (also no random animal ears, tails etc.) and requires a lolita coordinate, ouji or aristocrat and formal dress for guest boyfriends/girlfriends not into j-fashion. That is how to keep it lolita and keep most weebs out. Ask anyone who is in doubt about their coord to get it pre-approved. Expect a few people to whine because no cosplay and because 'lolita is expensive'. Ignore them. Expect a few people to buy tickets and try to bypass the dress code with things like Sebastian or Ciel cosplays or some steampunk thing. Turn them away after giving them the option to go change into clothes that meet the dress code. Don't listen to anons suggesting stupid stuff against the health code because if caught, your name will be mud forever. Use plastic gloves to handle the food prep.

Sounds like not much worked out for you if your big lolita goal is to make some teens jealous. Most 22yo don't care anything about what some teens think at all. Find some friends, get a life.

What's left to discuss in the updates group after the item sells out? Discussions before the release sure but after and just an oddments pack? Nah.

I saw a notice that customs is really backed up in Vancouver, so if your package goes through there it might take a while.

My Holy Lantern set took about a week to get through. I wouldn't worry about it.

FJ will do reservations for you, as long as you link them when the reservations are open.

Not everyone is stuck in their edgy phase like you.

No luck for me. Hopefully they'll just cave and do an MTO.

Same anon, same. I made it all the way through checkout too and then error. Ugh.

anon, come on. many people discuss the items/release during and after the release. as more photos come in, as worn photos come in, as photos of details come in, not to mention discussing the items included in oddments packs themselves.
>seriously arguing about this
>are you a lolita updates newfag or something

I always do a), would be sure to do b) if needed, c) i've started doing this even with ebay items and even take videos of packing the items just in case because the things scammers have tried man, but yeah i'd definitely do it with lolita items too and especially if buyers are already giving me trouble d) would do this too if needed.
unfortunately, this buyer seems totally clueless, is barely (vaguely?) acknowledging what i'm asking of them, and mysteriously isn't receiving their invoices. i'm already kind of done.
(i try to be a patient and understanding person and guided them through it so far as best as i could but it doesn't help that i was kind of braindead myself most of the week due to bad health...)

I just might have to do this and it's saddening the hell out of me. I've never had a deadbeat/clueless buyer before. I've had other newbie buyers but they were very gracious, obviously knew how to work things, and overall handled their transactions very well. So this is just mind boggling, because the buyer seems sweet but then all this cluelessness...
