Personally I am waiting for a proper Virtual Boy emulator. I know about that janky workaround which streams video from the PC emu to your phone, I mean something that runs natively on the phone itself.
I'm also someone who waited on good VR for literal decades, owned or tried all of the major HMDs along the way and am available for you to question if you'd like to know what that sort of profound despair is like.

I've only used it for little 3d 'zones' and the shit is definitely the future. I get why when people use it they quickly realize that all media will be VR within a decade

Nothing is wrong with it, it's just a style. It can be done well or it can be done badly, just like anything else (though it's harder to TRULY fuck it up in the way RT can be). It fits some types of vidya a lot better then others.
It doesn't need to go away, but criticism should also be harsher when devs fuck it up because there's less excuse given how straightforward the basics are and how much experience everyone should have with it at this point. If someone tries something really ambitious and messes it up somewhat, well at least you can see that they were truly trying to push the limits. If someone goes for something safer that's an entirely reasonable decision and can still be super fun, but in turn they should be taking the time to really polish their particular implementation.

I get what you're talking about, but at the same time it proved graphics aren't needed to make a pleasing game.
Someone just mentioned Wadanohara in another thread, it's a perfect example of how better sprites don't make a better game. I mean it's obvious, but some retards can't accept low quality sprites can great when there's a good design behind them.
Like every fucking shitty npc or enemy is somewhat memorable, even stupid crap like "tsundere plane" it's more memorable than any enemy overworld enemy in FFVIII.
