He is designed to teach you the basics of all bossfights:
>arena settings
>chain of attacks with an obvious gap to attack or heal
>has multiple ways to beat him (ranged, melee dodging, parrying, items etc.)
>some attacks can just be out-ranged or walked under
>has two very noticeable phases
>has visual, and sometimes audible, queues for attacks
Keep going and you'll beat him as well as obtain knowledge and skill for future bosses.
Seriously though, Iundex is a good tutorial boss, he has nothing on Gascoigne.
It was a very odd choice for a first boss.
It felt like the developers assumed no one new was ever going to play this game.
It changing into a giant monster is fine, but it should have been way slower so new players could learn from it.
