Why choose this sword in particular if they never use stomp?
It has really good base damage, really good scaling, and it's one of the easiest of the good weapons to find.
Personally I wouldn't trust the network connection enough to think stomp is worthwhile. Otherwise you could be killing people with Wolnir's sword and the katana light stance move all day.

Wolnir's sword is slow as fuck and doesn't have hyper armor on the special.
Apart from having good scaling it's not really outstanding outside of stomp. Gotthard's swords and Anri's sword outdamage it easily, and that's just in the straight sword class. Estoc fucking exists. Yet this shit is still the most prevalent choice in the game. For every estoc I see, which is even easier to get, I see ten of these and they never use stomp.

The dark sword isn't good, I wouldn't say it's bad but it's definitely not good either. Its move set is terrible which is why the people who use it only spam R1. Honestly a long sword is much better just because it has a nice thrust move and can use stance. People only use the dark sword because there were a bunch of shitty articles claiming it was the best sword in the game simply because the slightly more damage over other straight swords

The skins aren't that hard to get otherwise, and remember, it's a fucking skin. Alongside the fact none of them are exceptionally rare, there's very little reason to have more than a mild interest in these boxes.
