The Lord of the Rings: a movie with too much source material that they had to only include the most important and most interesting things.
The Hobbit: a movie with so little source material they had to throw in as much filler and bullshit as they could. It was 3 movies simply for monetary reasons.

season 3 is worth it if you're into hannibal and will's relationship dynamic. it goes full arthouse, and subsequently up its own ass. they tackle the red dragon storyline in the second half of the season, and the first four eps feel like filler. it completely shifts from its previous format. if you're frustrated with season 2 then you'll probably hate season 3.
