Depends on how easy it is to make these batteries. If it's super easy, then expect a tech boom. If not, expect crime rings popping up, like mafia groups and the like. If they do end up getting control on them, the setting may be run by gang families, buying all the land and having wars underground.

I love MTG, I've been playing it for a long time, ever since some marching band geek friends of mine introduced me to it back in freshman year of high school.
But there's always been one thing that just... never sits right in my stomach.
You see, I'm a very non-competitive person. I can watch sports, cheer and have a good time, but could I play them? No. I can enjoy video games, but stay away from leaderboards and things like that.
When it comes to MTG, I love to take my simple Naya beast deck and have a good time.
Over time though, I lost interest in playing. My friend circle changed, people coming and going, and now all the people I can play it with are super-competitive people, making a big deal over every single card that gets played or strategy that gets used. They all (no exaggeration) use blue/white control decks.
Last week, I'm playing best 2 out of 3 with one friend, and that's when the complete loss of interest hit me. I was bored.
I forfeited the match, but the thing is that I wasn't mad or anything. I just... didn't want to play anymore. Having all these people vigorously play only to win and only making decks that fit the meta to a T made the atmosphere unenjoyable for me.
What do you guys think? Am I a pussy for playing MTG for fun and relaxation instead of to be the best? Have you had experiences/feelings like this before?

No, I get it. You're probably a Timmy or Johnny and now all your friends are Spikes. There's nothing wrong with not having fun with Spikes, Spikes can be exhausting and dull people. Try to find like-minded people to play with or if that fails maybe try to introduce your Spike friends to some other tabletop games, maybe a good eurogame like Agricola or a co-op like Arkham Horror. You might be able to find a game where either you can have fun while they're being a tryhard or where their Magic tryhardness doesn't get carried over and they can also just play for fun.

Fuck no OP. The whole point of games is to have fun, this entire board is dedicated to playing traditional games because we enjoy them. There's enough things in life that you have to do even though you don't like them, why the hell would you add another? If Magic is no longer fun for you then don't play it. I've stopped playing several times over the years. After a while I'd find a new group that plays it or hear about a new set that sparks my interest and start playing again. Take a break if you need to. Eventually you might find some cool people who play it or see something new that gets you excited and decide to get back into it, or you may not, which is also fine. People change, as do communities and the games themselves. What matters is that whatever you're playing, you're enjoying yourself and are having fun, in whatever manner works for you.
I remember reading on here that the second generation of Tabletop Gamers saw that Bards had high Charisma and used to mind rape NPCs. Guy didn't explain what Charisma actually was, so I gotta ask the question. What is "Classic Charisma"?

Come up with defining feature. Add fluff until fluffed out. Design heraldry. Create crunch if applicable.

Basic question to ask yourself for this
1. What do these marines/guardsmen do differently than other pre-existing chapters/regiments?
2. Heraldry/paint scheme, check it with the poster for marines image that you can find online. You don't want it to be too similar to anything that's already canon.
3. Do not, repeat, DO NOT, brew up any special rules, units, or formations for your stuff. It just makes people not want to play you.
4. Get writing, you will want a basic back story for your dudes at the very least including what makes them special, planet they are from, ashe's they prefer to kick, rivalries, prefers units and strategies, numbers, etc.
5. Go over the back story and reasoning to make sure they aren't super mary-sue like. Have a flaw, have an old hatred for a loss or insult. Posting the basics on /tg/ might be a good idea if you want a second opinion.

They should incorporate the madness meters from UA or at least take a note from DG and combine them with the traditional countdown. I know CoC is supposed to be about the descent to madness but the meters really help give an idea of the different ways insanity works.

You know, the cold isn't so bad, when you're inside and nice and cozy on a couch, wrapped up in a couple of blankets. And with three copies of your girls friend to cuddle with, rainy days are pretty tolerable....no lets be honest here Eli, they're wonderfully comfortable.

I guess I'd basically just run the plot of Dark Souls as the story for it. Especially since my playgroup is full of casuals who couldn't get past the Capra Demon in Undead Burg before quitting.
You crawled out from beneath the rubble to look out at the destruction. Another bandit attack has ravaged your home. Your village was peaceful though it had a few hunters and guards. The thing that everyone hoped and feared was when the odd Adventurers would come through. Wizards, Rangers, Warriors, it didn’t matter. Every time they did, they either bought everything they could get their greedy hands on, or steal anything they wanted. They could make fantastic boons or destroy everything in sight.
Your village was out of the way, in the woods between several mountains and the Green Wilds. No one except treasure seekers wanted to go to the Green, but they came to frequently for your taste. This time is was a Sorcerer and a ‘Diplomat’ (though you could spot the knives hidden on their person and the glint of greed as your mother adjusted her golden wedding band). They had come in accusing your father, the local herbalist, of poisoning the well of a nearby town. Your father and mother tried to explain that they hadn’t left the village in months, but they wouldn’t hear it. The Sorcerer tried to cast some sort of fire spell, and the whole place had come down.
Your mother is crying over your father, a bleeding and broken body of a man who was usually so strong. She is wounded as well and there is no sign of the two Bastards who did this. You fall to your knees and curse the adventurers, Curse the world, even the gods themselves
