You've been contracted by GW to do a full Dark Eldar style redo for the SOB. They have demanded that they get at least 5 Special and Heavy Weapon options as they want to sell new basic sisters to existing players.

What do you give the SOB?

Adhering to the holy trinity of bolter, melta, and flamer (in the form of heavy flamer, heavy bolter, and multi-melta as well) I add a frag cannon and some kind of ordinance weapon (I'm thinking it incurs some kind of soul blaze effect that cooks crew inside a hit transport, or something like that)

Of course, they also get a heavy suit that can slow and purposeful themselves about the field.

Biker Sisters with lances. Gotta hit them bretonnia feels.

Rework Acts of Faith. Either they're one use but don't require a leadership test or they're multi-use and do. Otherwise they're just shittier versions of guardsmen orders.

Celestians are no longer "close combat specialists" give them a role somewhere near sternguards with ammunition choices. Since they're sisters, incendiary ammunition and anti psyker bullshit. The condemnor boltgun was a cool idea but basically useless, give a celestian squad an ammunition type that does the same thing and call it a day.

Sisters are best known for being able to incite mobs of expendable zealots within the local populace. Give them access to tarpit units of imperial cultists with the ability to firebomb themselves for maximum allah ackbar.

They're the militant arm of the Ordo Hereticus for the emprah's sake. The should be designed to fuck over psykers. New commander traits for: 1. any time you deny the witch, the caster suffers perils. 2. Flamers and heavy flamers now have Purging Flames: if a psyker is caught in the template, force a perils roll. For any psyker removed from play this way, deal 1d3 more hits to other models inside the template.

SOB squads get grenade and rocket launchers, as usual with incendiary options.

Airmobile options for fucks sake.

They have literally no superheavy options. Just put tracks on a cathedral and fill it with flamethrowers. Done. How fucking hard was that?

It's been a while since we've had one of these, and they're always fun to do.

If you want to recommend GURPS always include what books to use.

I'll start off:

What's a good system for playing as Metal Slug-like mech pilots?

I need to kill off one of my PC's. Here's the problem - I promised her several sessions ago that when and if she dies, she will die laughing. I also don't want the other players to be able to tell that I deliberately set out to kill someone, so the cause of death needs to look like it's something that could have been avoided.

Ideas?

You haven't seen the light of day for two may be three days. The good old Tugvokzaian hospitality right there. You have none to blame but yourself; you blew your cover after years and years of working as a spy for the Westrom Federation.

Kemlin's High men wouldn't find anything in your lousy apartment; everything was pure hidden not even the good fellas from the federation knew about your way of gathering intel.

Come to think about it, it was your first slip...well not exactly a slip more of an amalgamation of poor timing and bad luck. It wouldn't matter now.

Two Tugvokzaian guards entered your cell and grabbed you, you eyes adjusted to the blinding light for a couple of seconds. One had a gentler grab on you, yeah, he is still green and fresh; give it some time and he would wound up like his unforgiving partner.

The hallway reeked of dried piss and echoes of other unfortunate victims like yourself.

"Olguu! Waataru!" a weakened grasp followed this plead from a desperate prisoner. Old tan suit, pig brand on the cheeks...yeah, another poor soul of the Qingsi empire. You wondered why they treat every non Tugvokzaian like a subhuman.

The not-so-gentle guard said something to other one before entering the sliteye's cell probably to beat the ever living shit out of him.

The gentle guard winced turning his face the other side, his Westeom was decent "This way , Komnisare."

>Drop it, this act of kindness, it won't help you here, kid.
>A word of advice, follow your orders, gun down your morals.
>[Say something in Tugvokzaian]
>[Attack the guard]
>What's your name?

(By the way as a new GM you honestly want as little ambiguity in your quest name as possible to tell people whether they actually want to check what it is, because otherwise they're quite likely to just go 'eh I'll check on suptg if it actually survives'"
>>
>>46005872
"But you got Westrom in you nonetheless. Westrom are not welcome here, Komnisare." the guard chose to stay silent as he led you to a small secluded room at the end of the hallway "Kemlin awaits, he ... he is not good man, I pray you are not a spy , Komnisare."

>[Say something in Tugvokzaian]
>We will see.
>I will be fine, me and him are best pals
>Didn't expect a high rank, i must be pretty important.
>I heard what he did to the Rosaluk doll... such a shame.

Let's all pretend to be educated people for a moment.

What's the real definition of Dark Fantasy, /tg/? I know there's not a single definition for genres, but there can certainly be some that are more correct than others. Else they wouldn't be differentiated.

Is it really about the blood and sex, George Martin style? Does it have to be about "the terrors of the soul", quoth Edgar Allan Poe? Is it about love and self-destruction in a fantastic setting, like Byron and Dunsany? Is it enough for it to just be dirty and include vampires?

Every so once in a while you see a roleplaying game purporting to be "Dark Fantasy", but most of the time I feel like all they're doing is smearing blood on the illustrations and sprinkling demons everywhere. Can this really be it?

>smearing blood on the illustrations and sprinkling demons everywhere
I agree, and I see a lot of this as well (basically Dragon Age). When it comes to genre as a marketing tool, a product/world only needs to be aesthetically dark in order to be in the dark fantasy genre.

But if we are talking about genre as a more honest categorization, something can be either thematically or aesthetically dark to be in it, but preferably both. My dark fantasy goto is Berserk as it checks both those boxes. I'd also classify the Warhammer world and lore as dark fantasy, but more in a Boschian sense than like, an Edgar Allan Poe sense.

Supernatural beings hate humans and want to make their life miserable. Gods either don't exist or hate humans too because fuck them. Sprinkle sex, violence and pseudopoliticking over matters of honor and vanity to appear more mature.

So im interested in running a game in which my players are explorers and they become stranded on a deserted planet and must survive. thats all i have as of now.

im not sure of anything else, like if the air is breathable, if they'll be able to escape, not even the system.

heres where you come in, what system might best lend itself to this sort of scenario?

Additionally if you have any cool ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

yea i was going for a sci-fi vibe
>>
>>46004058
A really important thing is how do they become stranded on the planet? Do they take a life raft/escape pod down to it, or does their whole ship crash down on the surface.

If the whole ship crashes down then a lot of their tech will be seriously fucked, but small stuff would still work. They'd have a place to operate out of, but the ship itself will pose dangers as fuel and coolant leak all over the place making most the ship lethal via radiation or whatever.

If they come down in a life raft it may have some small supplies but it won't provide nearly as much utility as the ship, but it can be mobile and used for other functions and the characters will be in much better health if they landed via life raft rather than a fierce crash.

Is the planet inhabited? What do you want the end game to be?

I have only played 40krpgs so I can't tell you what system would work well, but the 40k setting would be fine for the scenario.

Saw a funny picture and thought my group could use a good joke game, thinking about having them all play elderly citizens, but keep the whole class based system and whatnot, is there something like this?

Do an adventure where six old folks at a nursing home discover a macguffin and embark on a cross-country quest to recover it.
>>
>>46002869
But what system? dungeon world? D&D gran gran edition?
>>
>>46002667
Most systems can do it. Even Pathfinder and D&D have rules to represent elder people.
For example, in Pathfinder, just change the base characteristics the following way:
>At middle age, –1 to Str, Dex, and Con and +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.
>At old age, –2 to Str, Dex, and Con and +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.
>At venerable age, –3 to Str, Dex, and Con and +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.
Obviously, the problem with this is balance: spell casters will be A LOT more powerful than other classes, even more than usual, for obvious reasons. You could perfectly homerule it by generalizing the malus to EVERY characteristics, as elder people often tend to loose their cognitive capabilities. Then, playing elder people would simply mean playing character with very low base stats.
It would probably a bit boring without a DM to make it interesting narratively, though.

Why do people still talk about MUH REALISM and MUH VERSIMILITUDE in games when this was explicitly solved decades ago?

Games are games first, meant to be fun.

AD&D1e, Player's Handbook:
>It is important to keep in mind that, after all is said and done, ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS is a game. Because it is a game, certain things which seem "unrealistic" or simply unnecessary are integral to the system. Classes have restrictions in order to give a varied and unique approach to each class when they play, as well as to provide play balance. Races are given advantages or limits mainly because the whole character of the game would be drastically altered if it were otherwise.

CONT

AD&D, Dungeon Master's Guide 1e:
>It is quite unreasonable to assume that as a character gains levels of ability in his or her class that a corresponding gain in actual ability to sustain physical damage takes place. It is preposterous to state such an assumption, for if we are to assume that a man is killed by a sword thrust which does 4 hit points of damage, we must similarly assume that a hero could, on the average, withstand five such thrusts before being slain! Why then the increase in hit points? Because these reflect both the actual physical ability of the character to withstand damage - as indicated by constitution bonuses- and a commensurate increase in such areas as skill in combat and similar life-or-death situations, the "sixth sense" which warns the individual of some otherwise unforeseen events, sheer luck, and the fantastic provisions of magical protections and/or divine protection. Therefore, constitution affects both actual ability to withstand physical punishment hit points (physique) and the immeasurable areas which involve the sixth sense and luck (fitness).

Hit point implementation, class/skill implementation, whatever differs from game to game but either way they're all games that are intended to be fun. Stop shitting them up with "BUT HOW DOES IT MAKE SENSE???"
Nobody cares.
>>
Just awful OP.
>>
>>46002075
If it's not realistic.
If it doesn't make any sense.
If my "How does that even work?" throws me out if the game.

IT'S NOT FUN.

IS.
NOT.

Is it "cheating" for harpies to try to develop magical/psionic powers of telekinesis (like Mage Hand) to compensate for their lack of hands, or is it only sensible in a high fantasy, high magic world?

It is only sensible.

Just like it is only sensible for wizards and clerics to rule over everywhere in that same setting.

I actually ran a dungeon where there was a sphinx who asked them knock knock jokes. If they couldn't guess the punchline, the sphinx would eat them. They managed to guess their way through with some intelligence rolls as handicaps.
