The year is 1126 of our Lord, and we enter the second year of reconquest undertaken with Papal endorsement.
Twenty-one years have now passed since the worst of the conflicts in the Holy Land around Jerusalem died down, leaving Crusader States in the wake of a glorious Crusade.
Following the success of his forebear's personal project, Pope Urchin II hopes to generate another Christian victory in the Iberian peninsula, aiding the King of Aragon and the Queen of Castille in driving the moors from their southern borders.
So far, there have been only minor border conflicts. The moors and their allies gather their strength to repel the Christian world, while the agents of the Eastern Empire establish bases on the Balearic isles.
A coalition of Catholic knights have united to take the city of Zaragoza, and defeated the local garrison in a near miraculous display of martial skill and valour.
Will the controversial bull declaring the Reconquista a Holy Crusade pay dividends, or will this rash action doom the western men of the cross?
Only time will tell.
Deus Vult!

This is an alternate-history nation builder with an emphasis on the characters that take part in this holy war. It is a sequel to the original Crusade Builder, whose archive you can find at http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/search/subject/Crusade%20Builder/ if you are interested.
However, knowledge of the minutiae of those threads are not necessary to participate. The builder has yet to diverge significantly from history, with the cracks only just starting to show with this second Crusade.
You take on the role of a warlord of some description. Whether you intend to make a name, carve out a kingdom, serve your ruler faithfully or defend your home, you must have come from somewhere.
To play, fill in the following character sheet:
Name: [What you are called]
Culture: [Your country of origin]
Fluff: [What were you known for before the reconquest? Why are you taking part?]
Religion: [Are you a triumphant Catholic? A resurgent eastern Orthodox? A beleaguered Sunni or even some kind of Pagan?]
Colour: [How do you want to be represented on the map?]
Transit: [How did you arrive in Iberia? Did you march? Did you sail? Or are you simply defending your home?]

Name: Tariq Abd al-Aziz
Culture: Andalusian, from Córdoba
Fluff: Tariq's ancestors boast a proud history of service to Islam and to al-Andalus. His family claim service to the Ummayad dynasty and all it's successors, extending from before 718 and the conquest of al-Andalus from the Catholic Visigoths. From birth, Tariq has trained in the art of strategy and war, and honed a reputation as a soldier of merit and student of Islam, despite his youth. He aspires to defend his home, despite any cost, and to repel any would be invaders with extreme prejudice. He seeks to make his ancestors proud and win favor as a valiant and loyal servant to his liege, the Emir of Cordoba. With his youth, however, comes a thirst for glory that has yet to be properly sated.
Religion: Sunni Islam
Colour: Dark Green
Transit: Located in Córdoba
Military: 50 mounted, 333 men at arms, 1348 rabble.
Bonuses: [A Worthy Vassal] As vassals of Cordoba, Tariq and his family can occasionally act with the authority of their liege, but may have tasks required of them in exchange.
Tariq sat in a dimly lit room reading by candlelight, sorting through missives that brought news of war, death, and defeat. His hand clenched into a fist, and the letter – freshly delivered from Zaragoza, and stained with blood – was crumpled and discarded.
“Zaragoza, Valencia… all taken by heathens. The blood of our Muslim brothers fills the streets, and now Franks and Greeks cheer over our battlements, praising their false gods.” Tariq mutters to his young squire, Fahmi, a green boy of only 15 years. “Fetch me my arms and armor, Fahmi.”
Flickers of light danced across the cold links of Tariq’s mail as his young squire hefted the heavy coat off of its rack. As the squire outfits Tariq in his war garb, he breaks the silence, questioning his master. “Surely the Emir will crush the infidel, yes? For god is with him” the boy asks, almost succeeding at hiding his anxiousness.

PREVIOUSLY: We fought a costly war against the Ramki Kingdom, but the Pajit Empire ended up swooping in and taking much of the lands we coveted without any resistance from the locals. We further explored the Western Continent and invested in our provinces, raising happiness among the minorities.

In the West, the inroki tribes were conquered by our allies, the Sunset Alliance, on one side and by the Pacharnati Empire on the other.
The Pacharnati are the dominant force on the continent in terms of territory and population. Since the arrival of the colonial powers they have carefully sought to avoid conflict with them and instead absorb knowledge and technologies. They have domesticated horses, adopted new animal and plant breeds and are familiar with gunpowder now - they remain less developed, but are making strides to catch up, having realised their dominance is under threat.

Who's worried that the first goal of Prime/Primal is to make the game simpler and more streamlined?
It's almost guaranteed that most unique rules on models are removed, just like Mk. I to Mk. II did.
>>46670445
Until I start seeing examples I won't worry. I actually expect them to be adding some complexity or just power back.
MK1 to MK2 changes point costs by roughly dividing by 10. This clearly meant a ton of models (2-4 points) that where on a spread of point costs now needed to all be balanced around the same cost. Which meant a lot of them wound up over costed and bad.
So the fact they announced the doubling of PC range means they can already fix a major flaw in MK2's design which impacts model complexity.
I also really wonder what they can simplify. They've announced removal of fear but not what those models get as a replacement. So until I get more concrete examples I can't quite figure out what they even mean.
>>46670445
Streamlined isn't a bad thing. There are a lot of rules in Mk2 that are unnecessary and counter intuitive.
For example, power attacks, terrain, weird rules interactions, shield guard, command checks, etc
In short, your concerns are pretty baseless. Wait for the full thing to drop

Holy shit I'm here at the start for once
You're beyond the city's walls in short order, Zahak's powerful shoulders heaving as he carries you further and further skyward. Judging by the sun it's several hours past noon already. You estimate you'll arrive at the gates of Nazir around midnight or perhaps later. You're exhausted as you are from that encounter beneath the day's earlier exertions so hopefully there will be an opportunity to rest and relax, or at the very least meditate, over the course of the next ten hours or so.
The saddle Mahana crafted for you is eminently comfortable. Seated deep in the cushioned frame with your feet shoved firmly into the stirrups, you're able to ride confidently atop your draconic son's back. No longer do the heaving of his wings nor the rush of air incite within you a desperate sort of anxiety. Now the slow, rhythmic undulation threatens to put you to sleep.
However, as you begin to drift off you hear more than feel something strike the thick carapace shell that is your cuirass. At first you think Ricky might be trying to get your attention. Instead when you peel back the dark fabric of your cloak you find none other than the diminutive stone golem you recovered from the Satrap's Library. It seems to be struggling to free itself from the confines of your cloak, but by grabbing onto the metallic edge of your saddle's pommel he's finally able to jerk himself free.
You watch the little creature passively as it struggles against the wind, crawling across your lap and over the pommel to grab onto Zahak's horns. It poses itself rather dramatically upon the curved lip, tail swishing at its back and its stone teeth bared to the wind. You're not quite sure what to make of it, but you can say with certainty that this is the first time you've ever seen a creature free itself from your cloak of its own volition.
>(1/2)
>Leave the little creature be, it seems harmless.
>Tuck it back into your cloak, for its own safety of nothing else.
>Write-in
>You think you'd like to meditate over the course of your journey.
>A nap really does sound wonderful. Indulge yourself a little.
>Write-in

What wizards actually have:
-The ability to render other party members with a relatively small number of low-level spells that render entire skills obsolete unless there's anti-magic measures EVERYWHERE.
Seriously, who needs stealth when you can go invisible? Who needs disguise when you Alter Self, who needs Climb or Acrobatics or Swim when you can fucking FLY.
Fuck DnD/Pathfinder and their "DO EVERYTHING" wizards, even if they are kinda crappy in combat by themselves.

Yes, if the bad paint ms didn't tip you off.
There's a huge crowd to see you off as you embark back on your ships and set sail for Tianna.
Fortunately, the ships themselves, the mercenaries and even the (only partially functioning) warstriders you brought along went entirely unused. The Neck is really as peaceful as you thought it would be.
Part of you actually envies them for that. You've got nothing but trouble ahead of you, as far as you can see.
The trip back home is swift and relatively uneventful (other than Tia being as clingy as usual). The weather is excellent and the seas are calm.
Thinking about it, this honeymoon felt like only half of a vacation. You still had to work and those two Dynasts certainly stressed you out a bit. And the message you received...
You can't help but direct your thoughts to Gem and the situation there.
Askar, Your father, is prisoner, at the mercy of Rankar, the usurper of the throne. Your little sister, Eskarin, is about to be married off to his own son, to improve the legitimacy of his reign.
Elenia... your mother might be dead for all you know. Not even your team on location could find out anything about her.
Tia and Amata just limit themselves to small talk, but you know they know what you're thinking about. For the entire trip, not one mention is made of Gem.
Well, no sense worrying about it while you're on the ship. It's not like you can do anything about it right now.
(cont.)
Finally, you arrive at Pearl's harbors.
And they're... actual harbors. Even if they don't compare to Tianna City's sophisticated port and docks, it's impressive what your people at home managed to accomplish in just the week you've been away. They've raised solid wooden piers and built stone barriers and skerries around it, to protect it from the rough seas.
Although the dock is just in front of the shallow coast in front of the island of the shore spirits (you'll have to find a name for it, or maybe ask them to). You can see your hearthstone's manse, Sapphire Palace, rising from the center of the islet, a spiraling, wide-based, circular tower built from white, blue-veined stone. The very top of the tower is surmounted by a sphere of solid rock, about two meters across.
You idly wonder if the spirits are alright, and if Glorious Tide is running things smoothly. Or if she fucked up something bad while you were away.
Your ships steer in port and begin to unload. Even here, a vast crowd greets your arrival. You catch a glimpse of Pyre Spark in it, waving frantically. Karas is there as well, accompanied by a small group of people in uniform.
Dismounting the ship with Tia and Amata, Pyre does her usual thing and throws herself at her, vaulting over the assembled crowd. Fortunately, she doesn't hit as hard as Tia does.
"DIVINE MAKAAA! I'VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH!"
"It's nice to be back for me, too." You gently pat her head while trying to peel her off you.
"Glad to have you back, sis." Karas steps towards you.
"I'm back."
>Let's head back home, we need to talk.
>Who are the people with you, Karas?
>Explain the Gem situation to him.
>Better keep the plan a secret for now, don't want him to do something dumb.
>Ask for a report on the situation in Pearl

Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.

Food for thought, /tg/...
Games Workshop approaches you with a proposition to reboot the 40K universe. The only condition is that the factions must retain their core identity (e.g. Eldar are still arrogant space elves, Tau are still diplomatic mech-lovers, etc).
What do?
>>46666394
>make the Imperium less Lawful Evil
>make the Tau genuine good guys who just struggle with naivete, the small size of their empire and inferior technology
>make the Eldar good guys who just fucked up in the past and are trying to get their shit together
>make the Necrons good guys too, they're just sad, undead and terribly misunderstood
And most importantly
>introduce characters who actually fucking matter and open up a possibility of change from the all encumbering grimderpness of the Milky Way.
Leaving everything the way it is, Expect The Emperor is slowly healing and all humanity needs to do is hold out for his Imperial Majesty to Return.

Looking for feedback on my versatile weapon master custom feat. Would you take it? Is it better, worse, or about on par with GWM, sharpshooter, and polearm master? The name is still WIP.
Versatile Weapon Master
When you wield a weapon you are proficient in with the versatile property and are not wearing a shield, you gain the following benefits:
-You may use your reaction when you are hit by an attack to add your proficiency bonus to your armor class, possibly causing the attack to miss.
-When you take the attack action while holding a versatile weapon in one hand, you may attempt to grapple or shove as a bonus action.
-When you make an attack with a versatile weapon using both hands, the damage die increases by one size.

What trends do you have with your characters?
What sort of tropes can you simply not resist when it comes to character creation?
Personally I have a (non sexual) thing for short yet powerful characters, and usually the more powerful they are the shorter and cuter they are.
I guess I like the idea of an unexpected hero, or big things coming in small sizes. Or maybe it's because I'm kind of insecure about my height?
