At one does someone role-play too much?

I mean obviously but that's like saying 'you know you've drunk too much water when you're literally drowning'

When they develop a mental disorder. I knew a kid who had to go to the local funny farm because he literally couldn't stop rolling dice to decide his real-life actions.

LARPing is just having fun with friends.
>>
>At one does someone role-play too much?
When it starts becomming deterrent to other people's opportunities to roleplay or even just rollplay.
>>

Booker has snacks. Ha.

You rp too much when it becomes detrimental to your life. Can't get a job because you are on roll20? Too far. But other than that, you're good.

Opinions, /tg/?

On mechanics, setting, system, style, whatever.

The only thing I've seen of it was the "lol, your balls fall off and your dick explodes!" spell. I don't know anything else about it, but that was enough to color my expectations somewhat.

It's supposed to be Diablo-like demonic horror with horrific magicks and whatnot, but I haven't played it.

Fantastic if you want to play Diablo3 without a computer.

The combat mechanics are gamey as fuck.It feels less like a roleplaying game and more like a boardgame that's full of itself.

What would be a good symbol for lost oppurtunities?

I'm writing a dream scene for a plaadin in our party and it will consist of two symbols: lost time and lost oppurtunities. Lost time will be clocktowers with clocks ripped out. What about lost oppurtunities?

thanks

Girls from their past they never pursued. Requests for help they turned down. Other professions they could have taken. e.g. flashbacks of stuff that didn't happen because they either accidentally or deliberately missed out
Perhaps images of a family they could have had with one of the farm-girls in their old town, etc.
>>
Nice, bot too obvious. Thatswhy clocktowers with clocks ripped out = lost time. I need a symbol.
>>
Broken bridges, locked gates, other such blocked off paths. You could emphasise them as past opportunities as opposed to future ones by having these paths close off behind the paladin as they passes or travels down them.

Personally I like my dream sequences to be fairly interactive in their imagery, so for lost time I would've gone for something like hourglasses that have run their course, but sand doesn't flow if they are flipped (or if they're still running, continue flowing from bottom to top) - if you want to keep the clock theme, stopped clocks that won't start even if you wind them.

I can kinda sympathise. I couldn't bring myself to pay $90 for $6 worth of models - I'd feel like I was paying an $84 fine for being stupid.

I'll start:
In a dystopian future at the heart of the sprawl, Henry Thomas is one of the shit-eating proletariat. His family driven to starvation and desperation by a lack of work, Henry signs onto a Corp human experimentation program, wavering away his rights.

As it turns out, the project is a proof-of-concept data set for the development and sale of biologically altered and cybernetically enhanced Private Military Contractors; to the highest bidder, of which there are many in the South African sprawl's vicinity.

After testing and modification equivalent to months of horrific torture of the body and psyche, Henry is given a new identification and a callsign: H4-NK ("Hank", as his technicians jokingly called him), or "Tempest".

Eventually sold off as a prototype, he finds himself in the care of one Dr. Plath, of Lazarus Enterprises. Henry's family is supposedly well compensated for his sacrifice, but Henry is now an owned piece of property; serve, or his family will pay.

With no other option, he follows Dr. Plath's every order. Interestingly, Dr. Plath does not seem interested in using him for traditional PMC duties; rather, Dr. Plath has some kind of a personal vendetta against the other PMCs which he intends on using H4-NK to aid in fulfilling... something about the Contractors in relation to Dr. Plath's daughter has him seeing red.

Dr. Plath receives a call. He turns to H4-NK and speaks; "It seems I have your first mission. Are you ready?"

"Anything for the cause, Doctor."

And so our adventure begins...

Song, as imagined during his sign-up and following genetic alterations:

Now, when discussing non-sapient races (centaurs, pic related, dragons, etc) one thing I haven't really seen addressed too often is nutrition and fitness. So, /tg/, how does your race stay /fit/ and what does a "good diet" consist of?

>>

Astro-oats and multi-squats.

>>

Centaurs might be omnivores or herbivores.
Dragons are carnivores.

What's the best way to have a conversation happen between two npc's that is required without it being this awkward "dm turning different directions and talking in different voice essentially talking to himself" scenario?

Yeah that quickly becomes "he says she says" for long conversations the pc'so might want to listen In on.
>>
>>47317259
Summarize it in a couple of sentences, adding the PC's impressions of what is happening and their emotional reactions whenever possible or appropriate.

>"You turn around the corner and see Ratner and Atopia in a heated argument about the Malavine Gem. Ratner is almost apoplectic as he demands that Atopia destroy the jewel to aid in the rebel army's quest for legitimacy."
>point at player 1 who is somewhat charismatic
>"He comes off a bit rough and unhinged to you."
>"Atopia coolly rebuff's Ratner's demands and tries to rationally explain to him that the gemstone's political significance is of far more importance to the Satrapy Dukedoms than the rebels' trivial concerns, and that keeping the artifact preserved in amber by forest druids is the best way to harness its power."
>point at player 2 who has some Diplomacy skill
>"You have a feeling Atopia's been playing politics behind everyone's back after that exchange."

The only particularly coherent group is the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints and their associated space empire.

The majority of the faiths in the setting are based on regional folklore and superstition.
>>
I run a fantasy setting with cults to gods that actually exist as characters. No, we don't care about originality at all. Hail Gygax.

>>47316873
Regional folklore and superstition such as?
>>
>>47316503
The not!church is giant worldwide operating organization, that actually doesn't hold much power over how rituals should be done and the gods should be worshipped. They represent the only true gods, a pantheon that in the former ages came down to earth, most of the time to fix something or save some races. Though you get a lot of freedom on how to worship god x in your tiny village, there may be a point when the local priest will contact one of the big ass centers of this not!church to investigate if you didn't got this all wrong. Because demons are fucking everywhere and you'll never know if this is just a disguise for something bad.

Does /tg/ have any interesting house rules that try to enforce civil behavior at the table or keep the game running relatively smoothly from a more meta standpoint? I know there are usually house rules for mechanics, but what about for standards of behavior or interaction?

Here's a list of the ones I usually end to use:
1. Don't worry about making sure to use the proper dice roller or to send pictures to me when you get a critical success or whatever equivalent there is for the system. If someone is really willing to cheat at a game with no win conditions and lie about pretending to be sitting around in someone's basement pretending to be elves and dwarves, no amount of hand-holding or looking over this person's shoulder will make playing with him or her any less insufferable.
2. There is a difference between telling people what's usually optimized or unoptimized and telling them what they can and can't play. If you try to cajole someone into changing a decision just "because it has better stats", your character loses a level to the wight on your back sucking the fun out of our game. Debate mechanics all day and night, but never tell someone what they are and are not allowed to play.
3. After characters have been created, the players will pass around character sheets and look specifically at the name. If the players can not, through collaboration, figure out how to pronounce the character's name, then the party gets to rename the character. Regardless of what it is, this will be the character's name for the rest of the campaign. Nobody wants to be in a party with someone whose name has 22 syllables, 11 consonants, 13 apostrophes, and no vowels.
4. "No Phones or Any Internet Connectivity" will not be enforced, but you are expected to pay attention. The moment someone starts to put on headphones or start playing an online game, he or she can turn in his or her character sheet and go home since he or she clearly isn't interested in what's going on at the table.

I can't say I do, because no one I play with is socially retarded enough to cause any issues. We've had the occasional salt at the table over a ruling, but nothing disruptive came of it.

What kind of shitty groups do you play with? Civil behavior shouldn't be enforced.

My group is looking to start a game with a clear premise: the characters would begin as simple peasant scrubs with no skills and no significance, but through many years of adventure and hardship they would grow and advance into heroes and finally something a bit more than a regular mortal. Basically the longest possible character arc.

You'd think that sort of a thing would be pretty common, right? Well, apparently not. Most things seem to be fairly gritty and low-concept with characters starting out as easily-killed peasants and ending with relatively low-level heroes that're still pretty easily killed. It's like they're all trying to subvert some trope that never really existed in the first place.

The only system any of us know that allows it is the various editions of D&D. Everybody hates D&D, and none of us can decide which edition we hate the least - everything from 2nd to 5th edition, along with a couple retroclones, is brought up and shot down. So now we don't have a system at all.

Are there really no other systems that would do this sort of a thing properly?

Alright, Been playing Dawn of War 2 with a friend and we've been using the lascannon as an anit everything as its just so god damn OP.

How useful is lascannon tanks and heavy weapon tanks as anit inf weapons?

Lascannons are overkill. Autocannons will do the job just as well for less points.
