/tg/ I have an ethical question. I was/am DMing a 3rd edition setting that was originaly should of been a lighthearted fun thing based on the card Steamflogger boss. I made riggers second class mechanical men, etc. It was fun and games but then one of my pcs shouted (in character)

Recently my new playgroup asked me to run a high fantasy, over the top Wuxia game for them. I've been pretty detached from the genre outside of the first 2 Kung Fu Panda movies, so I have no idea what I'm getting in to. My understanding basically revolves around famous dojos, animal themed martial arts, ancient techniques, long moustaches, and a golden emperor of the land of heaven. My playgroup is five people, and I'm having trouble coming up with different encounters and plot hooks, and really nailing the theme and setting. Any advice would be appreciated.

Legends of the Wulin or Weapons of the Gods might work, OP. Good luck with it.
Legends of the Wulin is literally built for this, and it does a damn great job once you get past the unnecessarily steep learning curve. The system is fantastic, but the editing of the book is so bad it can be hard to figure out.
When it comes to general Wuxia theme and tone, it has a lot of advice, references and recommendations for GMs, as does Weapons of the Gods. Even if you don't use the systems, they're well worth looking at for ideas.
Also interested in Wuxia. Can you recommend a few films/shows to get me started?

Which system has things to help me set up very basic "case-of-the-week" style spy operations?
Basic things like

>here's the objective
>choose gear
>deploy
>repeat step 2-4 as desired
I already looked at GURPS and GURPS Lite, not interested.
Fiasco would be a good choice, in my opinion.
Make your own playset for the spies, and write up new tables for the Tilt and Aftermath to fit the theme as you desire.

Perhaps I'm exaggerating a little, but despite their rather lengthy backstories and my best efforts to get them engaged, my players seem to be mostly interested in fighting enemies and getting stronger, rather than interacting with NPCs. They do it, sure, but it's not even half of what I'm used to seeing in tabletop. One of them has a tendency to just stop paying attention whenever it's not his turn.
Am I doing something wrong, or did I just end up with a bad batch of players? The most RP any of them do is shittalking enemies, even when it's just a spar.
