kinda working on a space opera setting and I'm trying to think of the kind of culture one of the alien species, I've worked out a bit of it's biology and it's environment, I'm just racking my brain trying to put these things together to form a coherent society from these factors.
>Biology
On earth all multi-cellular organisms are comprised of either plant or animal cells, well on earth there is a third type of single-celled organisms called Euglena (as seen in pic), a type of Protist, these organisms...

I'd go with roving bands of hunter-gatherers, possibly scavenging relics from a more advanced civiliation. They'd want to record the locations of things like geothermal pools and anywhere heat, light, and food could be found.
Sounds like a world where complex life would never evolve, much less anything as sapient as a dog.
If you're just going to make up a magical setting, don't waste time shoehorning in realism that just clashes with everything else.

So, like these slugs but maybe more intelligent? Or read Sidonia No Kishi that is about space people that use photosynthesis as their main source of energy.
Does anyone have any science-fantasy art or pulp sci-fi art?
I'm mostly looking for characters but objects and landscapes would be great too.

Has anyone had success running a pokemon table top? if so, care to share what obstacles you had, tables and charts, you developed?
this may lead to some questions, but let's keep questions to a minimum
The main obstacle I faced was looking for a system that isn't PTA/U.
Here's one.

You look at Pokerole yet?
So, a game I was in went south when two Players decided to go full retard; they both moved their characters randomly (making it difficult to tell if they had triggered traps), one went murderhobo and nearly killed a character the rest of the PCs wanted around (and was stopped by said PCs), and the other is such a downer at the table and shit talks everyone so frequently it's pathetic.
It clear to both of them that they're going to reap the whirlwind pretty soon, since I made it abundantly clear that I was getting sick of their shit, but the players are sticking together so much that targeting one normally means targeting them all.
I don't want to outright murder the characters, but I do want to make life a bit more difficult on them. One of them plays, basically, a tank, and the other plays a ranged type. Both are pretty broken, mechanically speaking, but not impossibly so.
>>43053632
>move randomly
>hard to tell if they trigger traps
Explain this.
>>43053649
I'd assume he means they took a convoluted route running around the map, meaning that any individual pressure plates might not get triggered, assuming a grid.
Of course, the simple solution is to just lie and say the trap was there all along, and punish them for sprinting zigzags through a dungeon.
>>43053649
So, when I make dungeon layers, I make multiple pathways through certain areas; one or two paths have traps, and one doesn't, normally. Basically, it allows the players to quickly move through areas in the dungeon if they bother to remember which path is without traps.
An example, albeit simplified, would be two parallel paths that have the same destination; one has spikes, and the other doesn't.
The chucklefucks, last session, flat-out moved their characters where the halls recombine rather...

Would you play in a game that was kind of Mouse Guard meets Rendezvous with Rama?
Basically, a colony ship built to human scale and of questionable origin, populated by intelligent mice or other such creatures.
I'm still thinking about the details, but I'm thinking the backstory would probably be something in a Stephen Baxter style, where the inhabitants were originally humans/humanoid aliens/whatever and reengineered themselves into tiny creatures in response to a societal collapse in order to survive.
I would play the shit out of that. Have the humans who ran the ship degenerating due to some horrible radiation that also started making the lab rats smart. Lab creatures escape and start to form social groups over generations, the humans become lumbering monsters manning the ship through hideous rituals they no longer understand that take place in the background while the forming tribes of smart-mice scavenge and explore the ship.
>>43052934
>One human not only survived, but became even more intelligent and strong.
>He attempts to figure out how to redirect the ship while coming to terms with the rest of the ship going mad.
>Due to the lifespan of mice going from one to five years, he becomes known as the Griever over the course of a decade, and is slowly becoming more and more unhinged.
>He sees the mice acting strangely as signs...

Wait, what?
>>43052195
Makes sense though.

Kind of. I mean, it's still an RPG, which is definitely /tg/ material.
Is this more an attempt to reintroduce better quality content to /x/? Because I can understand that.
You are on a trip in the amazon jungle. It's your hard earned vacation after even harder laborious years that you've been planning on going for quite some time. As you are wandering through the jungle alone to feel the spirit of adventure and partially because you couldn't find a good guide you find yourself in a dark place, for the clear path was lost. Said dark place is a cave that you fell into through a hole while trying to find your way through the dens foliage back to the civilization. The entrance is too high up so you decide to find another way out. After...

Quest goes in the title field. That is just common sense. Don't be a dick; delete and start over.
>>43051803
You forgot the quest title, I recommend remaking the thread before droves of angry ranters descend on you
>>43051835
>>43051844
Don't listen to these idiots, OP.
However, good quest threads give the players motivation right out of the gate. There's nothing dangerous or pressing about this situation. Start with a fight with an NPC or a wild animal or a flood or something.
Hi people of /tg, I come here in peace to ask guidance.
I wanted to try pen and paper RPG for the first time, but I don't know where to start,so my question is...Which is the best RPG system to start with?
What sorts of games are you interested in? Are you playing with friends?
>>43051555
I would be the DM I think, and at the moment I have only one friend to play with. So maybe something that can be ejoyed by one player only.
>>43051511
>Which is the best RPG system to start with?
That depends, although all RPG's have the elements or roleplaying, world building, combat and dice roll, each RPG, at least those i know of have a focus point, while one is more focused in roleplaying, other is more focus in combat, reaching from small parties to even grand armies and other focus more in rolls to help GM's build they're own worlds. The easiest would obviously be one that focus more in what a GM want...

I'm trying to make one of my players think they might be turning into a werewolf but they really only got bitten by a normal wolf.
Any ideas on notes or little hints I could give them that would make them think they are?
Also things that could happen that would lead the party to believe there is a werewolf amongst them?
Or how about just a general werewolf thread? Dnd pathfinder Nwod whatever.
>>43051036
They wake up frequently without clothes and there's especially savage murders nearby on occasion is a good one, especially if it comes with massive headaches on the part of the PC afterword.
Frequent loss of temper or excessive hair growth is good too, combined with bursts of remarkably strength they otherwise don't display or have.
The best part is both can be pretty easily explained away by other stuff; the headaches and waking up naked could be explained by somebody spiking their water...

Rabies and its symptoms.
>>43051136
Nice nice. Yeah I can definitely do the headaches and such!
One idea I had was him waking up with feathers in his hair and the group finding out a local chicken coop got roughed up by some dogs last night.
I need your take on this /tg/.
Five very rich kids go to spend a weekend in family mountain lodge. During the evening two bears barge in, but our PC hunter is nearby. He rushes to the scene, shoots one of the bears, while the other one kills one of the kids and takes another with him to his lair. PC hunter follows the second bear, kills the bear, saves mauled kid.
How do rich parents of mentioned kids react?
Inb4 give 100 gp to the hunter
>>43049800
Is it in America?
>Sue the hunter for not saving the other kid
>Sue the local hunter association for not dealing with the bears
>Make a petition to remove bears
>>43049800
That's one swift fucking bear if it manages to drag the kid all the way to the lair even though the hunter's right there with a rifle. Alternatively one incompetent hunter.
>>43049819
OP here.
Its Faerun setting.
>>43049834
Its a strange bear
JUST lost him as he fled
What do you guys think of this in an RPG? My friend and I always played paired characters, like brothers or just really good friends, when I wasn't forever DM. Sometimes our characters were really silly. Like two troll brothers, one a bard-barian, the other a Spirit Shaman in 3.5. There was the time we were reclaiming our family honor by killing the BBEG since one of our family was working for him.
I've seen these character types get a lot of hate within some groups, but I personally love them. Right now I have that same friend and another one of our friends...

>Again, viewpoints. Are they fun? Or would you rather them not be in your game, even if they aren't being disruptive to the game/group? Pic mildly unrelated.
You don't get to play in my campaign if your character does not have at least a mild connection to one of the others. It's an amazing way to sift out That Players since it allows for a sort of covert IC council that ensures nobody is TOO much of an odd one out.
For example, you'll actually have to...

It is a good thing, so long as your not up your own ass about it. Sometimes people make dumb inside jokes that go on too long and amuse no one but themselves, or use the power of two to shove the game into dumb directions for their own amusement.
Also, don't do it with the same guy, that's boring. Ask another player to make a character with you, see what different kinds of relationships you can have other than 'bro with real life bro.'

Nothing wrong with that. It even helps to tie the group together.
I'd say even romance between characters is fine, they just shouldn't go overboard. I know I had this one couple in my game who couldn't stop flirting 24/7. It was annoying to everyone... I also had a romantic couple in another game that were very subtle and tuned-down and everyone was fine with it. Some other players even got interested in their relationship and tried to overcome problems their relationship might face. It was very nice.

what's the best way to run skitarii vanguard units?
>>43048892
People say allying with flesh tearers, and drop-podding in 5-man units with arc rifles/plasma calivers.
Has anyone landed enfeeble on a unit like a riptide/nurgle spawn, then wiped it out with S10 weapon?
>>43048833
I really hope you play in a fluff-army environment, because damn.
So here's a thought- a game where the BBEG is a bard who managed to fuck a demoness to gain power
There is one rule to character creation; every character must be a paladin. Every single character.
>>43047932
Feels limiting. Why not gestalt with one class needing to be paladin?
>>43047980
Becasue Crusade!
We had a bard villain who managed to outsmart a goddess by navigating through a trap realm she made, and became her lover. It was kind of cool because the goddess wasn't evil, just unaware that the bard was abusing the gifts she gave him, and the power he got from sticking his dick in her.

What would a new tabletop RPG need to do in order to impress you? Impress your group?
Be crunchier than peanut brittle, yet have enough ties to it's core mechanic to be easy to teach. Mechanical depth without mechanical breadth. It needs to be a small deep lake, not a wide shallow one.
Not bandwagon on some other popular trend (i.e. no OSR, no ______-world, no "fixing" some personal minor issue with whatever edition of D&D, no trying to make a tabletop version of some popular video game or movie, no calling it rules-light in an attempt to pass off your total lack of creative mechanics or game design knowledge as an actual feature, etc...)
>>43038198
How do you feel about two different teirs of systems in the same game? A basic way and a intricate way, and a GM our group decides which version to use either for the whole thing or for individual parts?
