Why do fighters and paladins in D&Dland generally prefer heavy armor instead of agility in light armor, in a world where the merest touch from the hand or spell-ray of a caster, demon, devil, or other magical creature is more devastating than any solid weapon? Let alone a dragon's breath.

Is it just the tired old "knight in shining armor" cliché?

>in a world where the merest touch from the hand or spell-ray of a caster, demon, devil, or other magical creature is more devastating than any solid weapon?

Those things are all considered "very rare" for frequency of appearance, while things like bandits, goblins, and ogres which require heavy armor to counter are considered "common" or "uncommon".
>>
Because they're stats would never be high enough to dodge a wizards spell ray demons touch attacks regardless.

And armor doesn't affect reflex saves anyway. And either way they'd take half damage.

Not with D&Dland Dexterity logic.

Your name is Mia Vespucci, and you're looking pretty good for a dead girl. Apparently.

That's what Petra – Eirin Petrushka, to use her real name – had to say about you. Just a little comment she threw out with the kind of casual disregard for subtlety that really rubs you up the wrong way. No, even worse was the way that she acted as though you should have known it already. Like only a fool wouldn't know about the fact that they had died in some messed up alternate universe, or past life or... or whatever she's talking about.

No, you're not going to let this lie. It doesn't matter that Petra might as well be double your size and built like someone who lifts boulders for a living, you want to know just what she's talking about. You NEED to know what she's talking about!

“Steady on now,” Elliot tries to caution you as you chase after Petra, rushing out into the squalid corridor of her slum. “Or don't, that's fine as well...” the young man sighs as you brush past him.

“In a hurry, yes?” Petra asks when you catch up to her, your chest already growing tight from the short burst of motion.

You'll be in less of a hurry, you pant, when she tells you exactly what she meant. You're not dead – how can you be dead? It's ridiculous, it's patently absurd, but...

You think it might also be right.

“You don't know?” Petra looks surprised, derisive almost, but then her expression softens, “You really don't know?”

Of course you don't know, you cry, that's what you keep saying! Is this some grand secret that everyone's been keeping from you?

Petra clears her throat, not quite able to meet your eyes. “The old world,” she begins, “We all lived our lives there. Past lives, with those memories only now filtering through, yes?”

Yes yes, you say hastily, you've heard this already. What does it have to do with you dying?

“Obvious, yes?” Petra frowns, “Or are you not as smart as you like to pretend? What do you THINK happened to you in that other world?”

...Oh. She's right – it IS obvious, now that you think about it. You really did die, you died without ever meeting any of them, while they all found you. That's why they all know you, but you don't know any of them. That's it, you ask, isn't it? Was it... bad?

“You looked peaceful,” Petra mutters eventually, “Like you were sleeping, yes? Not many people got to go that way. Maybe a stroke of luck?”

So that's it then, straight from someone who was there to witness it – or at least someone who possesses the memories of someone who was there to witness it. You died there, in that other world, and – and this realisation comes naturally to you, the various pieces of the puzzle falling neatly into place – the memories have haunted your nightmares ever since. Dreams of death, dreams of dying, it was no wonder that they always seemed so vivid and realistic. They were realistic because they were real!

Some of your morbid thoughts must have shown on your face, because you notice Petra looking down at you with sympathetic eyes.

Rate my Golgari graveyard aggro

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/golgari-graveyard-aggro-1/

It can really get in there, with easy turn 4-5 kills. I feel like the graveyard isn't really necessary, but I don't know other black aggro cards that would work on curve. I'm thinking of cutting the gurmags and putting in two more Become Immense

What if the entire desert is actually the "surface" of an inland sea, capped by a gelatinous "top" comprised of billions of small amoeba-like organisms that filtered the water underneath and, over time, the deposited salt, sand and other particulates formed a layer on top of them that appears to be your standard desert.

Dig into the dunes and you'll find clusters of silver, gold, salt. Dig deep enough and you'll hit the spongy, smooth and slightly sticky gel. One can harvest this gel as it makes an incredible water filtration system, or simply wring the water out of the block of material you've just harvested. If you drill deep enough into this gel, you can pump out the pure water being covered by the gel.

That is the base food source, the water-rich gelatin that nourishes both huge and tiny alike, as well as the occasional oasis "naturally" created by tube-like organisms that intentionally pump the liquid up to the surface, encouraging predator and prey to congregate at it's waters and feast on the toxin-laced fruit and waters, whereupon they fall in and gradually digest.

The UNSC (Pre contact so from 2525ish), the Tau Empire and the Citadel races come in contact with each other. Assume the UNSC is replacing the Alliance from ME in a first contact situation.

How does everyone react to each other? Would this make a fun setting to play around with? Any ideas?

So I want to run some tabletop wargames at a local nerd convention, and the best games for cons tend to be those were every player control a single model (and sometimes there's a GM who controls the "NPCs").
Does anyone know any good miniature games like that? Any stories about good display games you've seen at conventions?

I'm thinking of running Tooth & Claw for starters, it's a pretty interesting little game of hunting prehistoric animals, with each player controlling a hunter or a pack of cavemen, and the animals are controlled by the dice.

At conventions if you are trying to snag passers by and not running pre registered for games you need visual appear.

I typically run HeroQuest at conventions which is a out of print RPG Lite dungeon crawler in 2D+ (played on a flat dungeon board but with 3D doors, furniture and miniatures). A simple but fast playing game you can pick it up used on ebay for around $50 for a complete copy. I paint everything to a basic table top standard. Will be switching to Mantic's Dungeon Saga next year as it is very similar and actually in print.

Tooth and Claw looks like fun you can buy pre-painted dinosaur and prehistoric animal minis toys for cheap at toy stores and the like. What are you using for Cave men/?

I'm using some North Star victorian adventurers instead, since cavemen is kind of the game's Hard Mode (getting into close combat with an animal is usually a death sentence, and the spears and bows used by cavemen will almost never kill a beast in one hit). Also there are no dinosaurs in the game, but I'm gonna pick up the DeeZee prehistoric mammal models the game was designed for, mixed with some random animal models I have lying around.
The rules could easily be used for more realistic big game hunting with modern animals like elephants, rhinos and lions, but it's more fun with mammoths and sabertooth tigers.

A dungeon crawl sounds like a good idea too.

CHA and WIS both 18, of course. High DEX, too, and both INT as evidenced by the technical aspects of his work. But what many don't know is that he was a sergeant in the air force for 20 years before he took up painting full time, so he was undoubtedly hard as fuck. Good STR, good CON.

Basically, before he was born, Bob Ross got to roll 4d6/drop lowest/keep rerolling until you get whatever you want.

Let's call it a few levels of ranger before going into bard, with a level or two of druid mixed in there. He skilled up Handle Animals/Animal Empathy pretty heavily, too. Max ranks Diplomacy.
