I am playing a character themed after light.
My character has a special power that lets them debuff a wide radius of enemies, but they need to be "carrying" a light source and the light source needs to illuminate those enemies. The power does not need me to actively wield or hold the light source, but just "carry" it.
My character would normally wield a wand in one hand and use the other arm for a buckler and an everburning torch. Note than an everburning torch is a quasi-magical item that involves no physical fire or heat whatsoever, at least...

Either you're not telling us something important or your GM and gaming group need to be replaced. One fucking incident that isn't so bad that you should be getting cries of "RULES LAWYER REEEEE", and your incident is a common mistake that any experienced DM should be at least somewhat familiar with.

Oh, this certainly is not the first incident. The GM has many a completely baffling rules call (e.g. completely misusing skills to the point where many of our skills literally meant nothing and did nothing during an hour-long [in real time] scene), but I have been saving my complaints for after each session.
This particular case seems to be the one that has not only miffed the GM, but the rest of the group as well, for reasons I cannot quite determine.
Hey /tg/. I've been watching MMPR on Netflix recently and it gave me an idea for a campaign. TL:DR version. Pacific Rim, MMPR and Scion mushed together using a slightly house-diddled version of Monsters and Other Childish Things.

Are bolt weapons underpowered? I haven't played any 40k rpgs yet, but plan on getting into it and read the DH1e core rule book. Looking at the average hitpoints, 1d10+5 seems a bit low, compared to their fluff. Same for meltas and plasma guns

How would fantasy air cav function? What would their typical missions be like, what sort of training would they receive, what type of weapons and equipment would be given to them?
In a game I'm playing in, the military has tamed wyverns that are quick and nimble that some soldiers essentially use to become sky knights and they fly in wings and typically come around and flank enemies while the main force has already engaged the enemy in pitched battle but there are also bigger drakes that are much slower than wyvern but can carry much more weight, fly much higher...

Air recon and denying the enemy air recon. The question remains how you would ward your expensive and fragile wyverns against magical surface-to-air/air-to-air attacks or even conventional ranged weapons as the rider has to make eye contact. It's probably pretty easy to spot an enemy host from a safe distance, with smaller formations it would be more difficult.

I'd look into Temeraire. Book series about the Napoleonic wars, but dragons exist--and are used extensively in military ops.
There are some quirky ones like one breed'll only let women ride them or what have you, but mostly they're small-to-moderate crewed vessels hurling explosives and fighting each other in blade-and-pistol boarding maneuvers (the dragons go at it to but are slightly limited by the squishy humans on them they'd rather didn't die).
