This is a thread created for the discussion of Quest threads, as well as sharing of advice and guidance for aspiring or current QM's. Posters looking for advice on tabletop games should look elsewhere.

Useful links: http://pastebin.com/b5cN2RkK
This link contains numerous writing guides, general advice, and various quest tools and communities.

https://twitter.com/Eisenstern/lists/quest-runner-directory
This is a directory containing the tweets of most current QM's. While a twitter is by no means mandatory, it is a useful tool for both you and your players. If you are a QM, simply post your Twitter here to have it added to the directory. Spamming your quest twitter with non-quest related tweets may result in its removal from the directory.

eye is much better than ancient tomb in the deck, since it basically taps for 2 for every eldrazi you cast, so it can effectively tap for 4-8 mana when you are casting several spells with it

The core idea of the game is generally sound, I think.

One of the biggest hurdles of getting people into a wargame is always that moment where they go "I want to play this and this and this" and you have to explain to them that such and such models don't work together, such and such models can only be taken so many times, etc, etc, etc.

The "bring anything you got" idea has merit. It means balance is shot to hell, more or less, so you'd really just focus on making sure certain things weren't too insane.

What would be more important, I think, is having a solid game in the rules, something that's interesting and fun. This is where AoS has failed, more than anything else: people will forgive a hell of a lot so long as the game has good, fun rules.

So the answer is just to revamp the entire combat system so that it's actually interesting and fun to play, and you've pretty much solved 90% of AoS's problems.

It doesn't need to be fixed because it isn't broken. If you think it needs to be fixed, it just isn't the game for you.

WHFB is not coming back, it is dead. This game is here to stay, no matter how much of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth it incites from the old guard.

" I suppose now we should figure out our next plan of action. We have people to track, quests to undertake and I heard from the Runner's Guild lately that bandits have been using the descending stairs to attack runners at the fore. Another notable quality of this next area is that it's a cove like environment, with crested waves crashing against mountain /peaks/ But for our purposes, we travel the flat slopes of this [Highland Road] and should find the stairs at the end of it. Of course the door may drop us randomly, this floor is on a continental shift after all...

Try AD&D 2nd Edition.
>>
>>45271110
5th Edition, it's sort of similar but they took care to address a lot of the problems you run into at higher levels. I think it's easier to learn too, personally. But PF is a valid choice if you're going for a more bombastic setting, since the magic gets a lot crazier.

A lot of people are going to tell you not to play either, and to play the system they like instead, because /tg/ is full of vampires. Take their advise as you will

5E is more freeform and less crunchy combat sim. Either will work but I would go with 5E.

The Fluff sometimes says:

>"Khorne cares not from where the blood flows"

Then again, there are some older texts about Khorne being really serious about honor.

What is /tg/'s opinion about this? How do you prefer your Cultists of the Blood-God?

Insane Murderers that just kill to keep the blood flowing? Or Warriors that only seek a good fight with a skilled opponent?

Can you imagine a Chaos-Warrior that spares a unarmed civilian, or even a wounded enemy?

Lets discuss.

Honorable warrior god Khorne is more interesting than being just a generic murder deity. Plus it makes more sense with the hatred towards sorcery. If Khorne cares not where the blood flows, why get concerned over what methods are used? It's a piece of fluff that only really makes sense if we're going with the interpretation of Khorne valuing honor.

Priat emerged from the healer's house, a slightly dishevelled expression haunting his face as he returned to join you and your Testament. "The healer says it will take some time, but the Adept will likely make a full recovery." You hum disinterestedly in acknowledgement as the three of you start move, "I'm impressed you managed to extract the location of where your friends were being held from him. I suppose my measure of the man's character was off." You hum again, this one coming out as a vaguely distracted grunt as buildings passed by and the gates of Carona began to loom into view once more.

"Perhaps the Wisp Adept isn't the only measure I've misjudged." He mused neutrally, waving aside the gate guards to allow the three of you to pass unharried, "I suppose I'm slipping these days." You're really not in the mood for playing with his implications, as you toyed around with the moderate regret you felt at having not left a more deeply seated impression on the Adept. You shake the idle thoughts from your head as the three of your pass through Carona's front gate, cobbled streets and the sounds of livelihood near instantly fading away in favor of packed dirt and the familiar rustle of the wind through distant leaves.

You reflect for a moment on the irony of you leaving through the gate you hadn't actually succeeded in entering, and then get back to the matter at hand.

You are a doppleganger of Irue Valen, the blood-heir to House Valen, and your recent past has been a bag of mixed fortune. On one hand, with the help of Kara, you had managed to turn the tide on an ambush and learn where your maid and local contact were being held! On the other hand however, you gained a disturbing realization about your shadow's current state of mind, and nearly died in the process. It had taken you almost an hour to really pull yourself together after that, and you're still not sure if you - or the real Irue Valen for that matter - are actually okay.

You hadn't really realized it, but Irue Valen's memories weren't actually your memories. You had, of course, known the difference between the two of them on an intellectual level, but they had been there for you to access ever since your 'birth'. After your near death experience with the Wisp Adept, those ever present memories only seemed to return a dull mental equivalent to white noise whenever you attempted to look into them. It was... Unsettling. Perhaps more so because of your experiences in the web earlier.

At first you had simply believed that the difficulty in recognizing people had been a side-effect of the web, something you would simply need to get used to as you toyed with the strange capabilities granted to you by the Ice Queen's Atelier, but that notion was painfully dispelled when you had attempted to withdraw yourself from the threads and realized that the 'web' had never been yours in the first place.

The web extending your senses through its threads, and it did so impressively... But if the web wasn't yours, then it wasn't your senses it was expanding. That black haze which had nearly made Kara indistinguishable from the people attempting to kill you was no fault of the web, but of the capacity of the web's owner.

In other words, you had unexpectedly just been given a chilling view of the world through your shadow's own 'eyes'.

Perhaps more worryingly, your attempts to rouse that unwanted voice from the back your mind had been met with that same fuzzy sense of white noise as trying to look through your shadow's memories. As an apparition of Shade, you knew intimately that being put into contact with Wisp Mana wasn't dissimilar to mutually erasing each other - It was a large part of why you had nearly died - But your shadow was... Even if it looked like the real apparition between the two of you, it was the real Irue Valen.
>>
There was too much concerning the state of your shadow that you didn't understand.

Maybe Mim would know. Knowing things was literally the job of a Luna Adept.
Maybe Marchovic would know... Though you aren't sure if you really wanted to ask him.
Maybe...

Too many maybes. As it stood, you'd have to hope your shadow would be fine for a few more days. At least until you finished dealing with retrieving your Testament.

>Your shadow is no longer responsive.
>Releasing Irue as a berserker is no longer possible.
>Accessing Irue's memories is no longer possible.
>As a result of exposure to Wisp Mana, meditating has become more difficult.

You sigh, trying to decide what to do. The hideout that Asche and Jill were being held was evidently hidden away in a nearby graveyard.

>Go straight there, you'll blitz it with Kara and make Priat actually do work.
>You're outside Carona, may as well recruit your knights to this venture.
>Maybe bringing all of your knights isn't a good idea, but you could probably benefit from having Ari and the wood golem come.
>Too many knights will just make a mess, and Ari isn't necessarily cooperative. Dullem alone would be a strong addition to your squad.

FAQ:
Q - How do I play?
A - It's a CYOA, there are no established mechanics for the rescue. All the pages to the game are in the imgur album linked in resources.

Q - Why aren't/are we we working on; Gen V/Knights/combat mechanics/etc.
A - No. We recognize that spreading out our efforts is what originally killed the project. Accordingly, we're focusing on just one thing at a time and finishing them out.

Q - Hey, can we make a pricness about X fetish?
A - It generally comes down to what people like. Propose the idea and see if others want it.

Q - Is there a map/unified setting?
A - Nope. Though proposals have been made, nothing concrete has been created.

Q - Can I post fanart/fanfiction here?
A - Go right on ahead, just make sure it's within the global rules.
