This is going to be based in a dark fantasy world I created, it's very weird and somewhat inspired by Terry Pratchett's Discworld.
Using something of a homebrew of GURPS because it's easy to make up rolls, the story is more important than the mechanics and I will use GM powers to push things to be more interesting.
(No I'm not going to "rocks fall everyone dies", it's boring, unfair, and lazy.)

It's raining again. You sit at the table and work on your arithmetic. Your father is learning back in his chair by the fair, and judging by his light snoring you'd assume he's just fallen asleep. It's been a long day, gathering in the flock and getting ready for the storm that's been brewing in the mountains to the east. The real storm, not the light showers that have persisted all through the spring. It's been hard this year, the rain has flooded the creeks and planters all over the valley have been struggling to keep their crops from drowning.
You decide it's probably time to turn in for the night. You'll have to be waking up early tomorrow, you and your father are making a delivery of wool to Gamon's Field, and the trip will take all day.
You let the fire die down and blow out the candle on the table. As you make your way over to your bed, you hear a thump, like the sound of a log hitting the ground. You pause. Again you hear the sound, a few seconds later, then once more after that. Then silence.
