Anyone have a suggestion for a decent caliber gun? I don't know too much about guns and want to shoot some stuff around the forest. Budget is under 200 dollars.

Ruger 10/22 or similar.

Stevens 320 or Maverick 88.

Would a .22 be too small or not bad?

I have a chance to trade $425 of gun and cash for an older Aimpoint CompML with a killflash on a GG&G cantilever mount,
Is this a good deal? Its an older red dot that doesn't have the eternal battery life of later models. Should I just spend a few more shekels and get a newer one?

Aimpoints are shit. If you want a red dot find something designed/sold on the civilian market.

Bump for answers

>pls respond

>be ex-Canadian
>live in glorious Michigan now
>enjoy my scary guns and legal carry
>mom calls me today
>a good friend of hers and his son want to open a gun store and range outside a major city in ON
>there's a lot of gun owners and only one store, and it's in the city, so it's a pretty good market with nobody taking advantage
>they asked her if I would consider moving back and working for them, as I know more about Canadian laws and guns in general
>want me to act as a gunsmith and do case-by-case importation, and just generally help run the place
>I'd need to renew my RPAL and take an official gunsmithing course, but that's no problem

>mfw they say I'm vital to this whole plan and they're not even going to try if I'm not onboard
>mfw I've always wanted to work in a gun store, nevermind helping to run one
>mfw I'm offered a dream job in a really nice place close to my family, but it's in a country where everything is a lot more restricted than I am now accustomed to
>would have to sell the guns I currently have and wouldn't be able to own them anymore (no handguns with <4.14" barrels, no AKs, FALs, or whatever else the RCMP determines too scary)
>Canada just elected an anti-as-fuck PM who vowed to give the RCMP more power in arbitrarily banning shit and is doing things like putting women's groups and "gun safety advocates" on boards to change our gun laws

So tl;dr got an offer for a great job helping to run a gun store where it's pretty much guaranteed to be successful, but it's in fucking Canada

What do

As a side note, anyone know where I can find information for becoming a licensed importer of firearms in Canada? Everything I search for comes up with regulations for individuals. This guy wants his business to be a licensed importer.
>>
>>29166186
avoid, working in a gun store is bad enough, opening one with two people you dont know and have no idea whether or not they have the slightest clue about anything gun related just sounds like a trainwreck

i fail to see how this is a "great job", chances are you dont have a clue how to run any store let alone a gun store.
>>
>>29166265
I do know them, albeit not very well.

They guy already has a small business of his own that's doing fine. He mostly wants to set this up for his son, and also because he likes guns. I totally trust his competency in running the business.

I'll add that I'm unemployed right now, and the jobs I've had since I moved to the US have been shit. I would definitely enjoy working with guns all day and/or doing administrative work.

Hey /k/
Are Mosin Nagant M39's worth paying around $375 plus any kind of FFL transfer fee?
I'd be using it for mostly target shooting, but also to kinda show off since the rifles do have really cool histories to them.

No. Mosin Nagants are not worth that much unless it's a rare variant or in unissued condition.

Yeah if it's in good condition

Thanks, I had heard mosins were crappy but that these were the "best of the worst" basically. What would /k/ recommend as a good WWII era bolt action with decent accuracy?

I picked up a couple of Baofengs for when out camping with the family away from digital civilization. I wanted a weather radio and a MURS system in one package. Now I'm reading that using MURS on a non-part-95 compliant device, even in 1 watt mode, is illegal.

So here I am reading up on getting a Technician's license. I have a couple of questions for any radio guys.

1. Is there any point in bothering with the license if I'm going to be the only one in my family using it? If there's some benefit to my community I can provide or shit like that, fine. But I have zero interest in just using a radio version of a BBS with other radio operators.

2. The practice tests have a large number of questions relating to circuit diagrams and high current electrical equipment. How much of this shows up on the tests?

3. How in the hell would someone detect if you are using a MURS device that is not part 95 compliant if you are transmitting under 2 watts.

4. Assuming some autist decides to fuck with my communications because of this fact, is that also not a violation of the general use guidelines (101d I think) for his license?

Not OP but I got mine in the mail a week ago. Just bee fidelling woth it lately because I don't know a single info about radios.

A few questions of my own.

I can it on the frequency of a Walkie talkie but the UV5R receives from the Walkie talkie but not the other way around. Only one way. Any idea why?

Can I use this as a marine radio? Basically just program in the channels that a normal marine radio has, like 16, and stuff.
The radio I have in my boat has removable antenna and I stronger than .5 watt, how is that legal?
>>
Nobody would be able to tell if you're using a non compliant radio without going through a lot of trouble. If you guys want to be legal run through some online tests for the ham radio Tech license. Even if you have zero electronic skills it's easy to memorize enough answers to pass. Make a family day out of it. You can use mobile radios with much more power too. Ham radio licenses need to be renewed every ten years so once you get it you have it forever. You or a family member might actually like the hobby. Who knows?
>>
>>29165572

It appears that channel 16 is 156.8 MHz, which is definitely in the UV5R VHF range. Guess you can.

So /k/, do tripods increase the muzzle velocity of machine guns?

Because this guy certainly thinks they do:

Tripod mounted machine guns ARE more effective than an unmonted one, but not in the way he's speaking of.
>>

Obviously, you've been using the wrong tripods, then.
>>
>>29165419

He literally never says that in the video.

Is bore-axis just a meme /k/?

I returned from the range today after trying a few different pistols and I'm actually a bit confused . Full disclosure: I'm a no-guns and my combined shooting experience doesn't amount to more than first impressions of any particular gun.

I don't know how it is at most ranges, but the one I go to lets you swap out guns of the same caliber when you're renting. They don't have a huge selection but my gf, my buddy and I ended up shooting:
My buddy's Jerico in .40 S&W
Sig P229
Glock 17
Beretta M9
Ruger American Pistol, or whatever the new one is called.

We shot with range reloads. What surprised me was that Sig had by far the most gentle recoil, being the gun with the highest bore axis. It was a very noticeable difference. The Jerico in .40 kicked the most, despite being a good deal heavier than any other pistol we shot. The Glock had the harshest recoil of the 9mm bunch, and it has a pretty low bore axis I believe. Not sure what to think. My takeaway is that bore axis is probably not as important as things like the weight of the frame/slide, the action, and springs.

Other random thoughts:
My gf and I both liked the Sig the best, because of the recoil and having the nicest trigger of everything we shot today.
The Ruger was my second favorite, nice sights, pretty decent trigger. Mag release really is too small though and slide catch is way too smooth and flat.
The DA trigger on the Jerico sucks balls and is really long. SA trigger is a bit too light for my tastes.
M9 was pretty nice except for the weird sights and the difficult to reach/operate mag release. Trigger was very light/short as well.
The Glock did not leave a good impression. Snappiest recoil, poor trigger, poor grip ergos.

Feel free to give me your thoughts or tell me how I'm retarded.

>SIG had the nicest trigger

>Glock had snappy grip

Either you're new to handguns or you're an idiot.
>>
>>29165340
You're absolutely right about bore axis being an overblown characteristic relative to other factors like frame material

However, a high grip on the gun can help in mitigating recoil. Is it far and away the largest factor? No. But it's one of the easiest things to attack about the 22X line on /k/, so there you go.
>>
>>29165340
It is, in fact, a factor.
But it's not as big as people want you to think.
It really only becomes a huge thing if you're doing competitions with it.

What's this stuff? Is it a HAM radio? I found a bunch of helmets and an antenna with it next to my apartment complex garbage. It has a bunch of batteries and cables too. Sorry for shit lighting. I think it's an old tank crew radio system.

During a proper magazine explosion on a battleship/cruiser, will the turret fly up in the air like a tank turret or will the volume of explosives in the magazine below simply blow it into shards and fuck everyone in the superstructure adjacent to the turret itself?
31 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>29163729
a tank turret is not like a ships gun turret
>>
>>29163785

Well yeah, the ship turret simply rests on the bearings and stays in place via weight, the tank turret is more firmly attached.
>>
>>29163845
if you "ammo rack" a ship, the explosion would occur inside the turret, so it can't be blown out of popped off like a tank turret, however, the cap of the ships turret could be blown off, but unlikely considering the relative small amount of ammo that is inside, and which would be needed to propel that amount of weight off the ship

>Should I buy one (SR 15 Mod2)?
Yes.
>Key Mod or M-Lok for the URX?
I'd lean towards the M-Lok, but if you can find a key mod version for less than the newer M-Lok, that would probably be worth it.

>tfw SR-15 fund turned into surprise car fund
>tfw have enough now to buy an SR-15 and 25
>tfw still car fund
>>
>>29163558
I was leaning towards M-Lok too, but I've heard from friends that it isn't as stable as Key Mod, but he wouldn't say how, just that I have to use both (he owns both). I want something that will work well, but I don't want dicks on my gun.
>>
>>29163641
Weird. I remember reading on instagram one of the carbine instructors (defoor, mcnamara, mcphee? not sure which) saying he had another keymod bipod get sheared off and that it isn't the first time it has happened with keymod stuff.

Don't think it really matters either way. Both are at least decent and most companies make product versions for both. Plus you can always sell it and buy the other for probably not more of a loss than $100.

Just go M-Lok and tell yourself you did it for the MOE grip over the A2.

Who cross dominate here?

I'm right handed but my left eye is definitely my dominate eye. I can't comfortably shoot the vast majority of rifles, so I mainly stick to my Mossberg 500 and handguns. I actually sold my first gun (Marlin 60) and used the money to buy 9mm and 12 gauge buckshot.

I've tried most cross dominate shooting techniques but none have worked that well for me. I'm kinda sad that I sold my first gun but it just wasn't fun to shoot.

I am. Can't shoot a rifle right handed. I've just had to learn to be a left handed shooter since I was 10 or so.
>>
>>29163076
Have you tried putting your sights on a riser and rolling your head over to look through with your left eye? Mike Pannone does this because his right eye is plastic, but it might work for you.
>>
>>29163076
You know you can shoulder a rifle on your left shoulder, right? If anything it means you manipulate the charging handle and magazines with your right hand, feels pretty good m8

Buying my first gun, going with a handgun and I'd like it chambered in 9mm.
I have a maximum of $600 to spend. I'm leaning towards a Glock 19 Gen 4 after seeing so many good reviews on it. Seems like Glock is the Coca Cola of handguns? What other brands should I consider? The dealer I'm going to has a variety, they have FN's, HK's Springfield's and S&W's.

HAHAHAHAH... Eurocucks must be shitting their pants now that Russian mil has outclassed them in every which way possible and now that they know that the bear can bite and can take a huge chunk of EU in several weeks.

>The limited Russian contingent operating in Syria is outperforming the more widespread groupings of the US-led anti-Islamic State coalition, according to Germany’s FOCUS media outlet who came by the classified NATO document, which was prepared by the alliance’s military experts.

>The document points out that Russia deployed 40 warplanes, performing some 75 sorties a day (until the ceasefire came into effect on February 27). The airstrikes, usually delivered on several targets during each combat flight, are “accurate and efficient,” the analysis reportedly says.

>The US-led counterterrorist coalition, deploying about 180 warplanes against Islamic State (IS, former ISIS/ISIL), strikes only about 20 targets a day. The paper says the number of Russian fighter jets on the ground is “clearly inferior in number” to NATO’s group, but the higher frequency of the Russian air raids makes them more effective.
