Which gun would you say describes you best, /k/?
The gun that describes me best would be the Desert Eagle or any of the other overly powerful magnum handguns. I'm loud, violent and only good for a select few things in life, which, in the grand scheme of things, are still useless.

Serious question, /k/:
We used UH-1s by the thousand to get around lush foliage and rough terrain in Vietnam, why would we not use them to the same degree in Afghanistan/Iraq/next sandbox adventure in order to prevent soldiers from getting blown up in their vehicles?
I mean, surely it wouldn't eliminate IED deaths, as there would still be anti-personnel mines and such. But if I'm not mistaken, IEDs were one of the number one causes of death in A-stan and Iraq, right?
Surely there must have been more than enough Hueys and Hawks to go around in the mideast at the time to significantly reduce the amount of vehicle IED deaths, right? And if not, there should have been enough time and money to procure them, no?
I might be wrong on some of these points, but this has been rattling around my head for a few days. Any milfags are invited to share your views/answers

idk the answer but I am curious.

a humvee/mrap has more loiter time than a chopper, and say you need to get out and search, much easier to do so in a truck.
plus the extra logistics would be a nightmare.
however, could we use like, small hovercraft-mrap things?
modern hovercrafts can roll over mines and shit no problem, and the civilian market already has some small recreational ones.
could we military-ify them?

With the price of Mosin Nagants rising due to fewer crates coming from eastern Europe, and with less surplus steel core 7.62x54R via the same routes, I think the reign of the nugget as the unofficial gun of /k/ is coming to an end. And I think she needs a replacement.

It should be inexpensive, reliable, unique, powerful to kill something, and with plentiful inexpensive ammunition.

Any nominations? I vote for the SCCY CPX2. Cheap, check. Works, check. Full size caliber, check. 9mm widely available and <$9 per 50? Check.

Basically the only thing that made the anachronistic nugget appealing was price of the gun and availability of nugget food. Now that both are no longer true I think it's just another bolt gun.

>The Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is developing an unmanned vessel optimized to robustly track quiet diesel electric submarines.

What does /k/ think about ACTUV? Is this a viable pathway for developing a future-proof ASW capability?

Also in the beginning of the video the prototype looks like a cheap 3D model inserted in post-production, it's weird as fuck.

Is it kinda provocative to tail submarines in international waters?

This is like one cargo business having drones follow the ships of other cargo businesses.
>>
>>29564880
>Is this a viable pathway for developing a future-proof ASW capability?
I don't know about future-proof but it is the clear beginning of a robust, responsive, next-generation evolution of the SOSUS network concept. It's an excellent home waters solution and has some very intriguing enemy AO possibilities (well dock motherships with ASW and radar/AA picket drone ships to deploy and sweep in front of CSGs, for instance, tying into the ASW and Aegis battlespace networks).

Sensor node persistence is one of the few weaknesses of the P-3/P-8 and rotary wing-focused SUW ASW fight, and these neatly resolve this. Cost VS tactical benefit is really the only remaining question once the system is working. Are they cheap enough to build in the numbers required for the required bolstering of current systems?
>>
>>29564941
>Is it kinda provocative to tail submarines in international waters?
The USN does it whenever possible, as does any country with boats quiet enough to tail effectively without constant or immediate discovery (read: impossible against USN/RN/FN boats for many to most Soviet designs). It is provocative, but not illegal; many collisions have happened during such operations over the years. However, the very nature of the submarine mission set and operational capabilities means it comes hand in hand with national defense operation of submarines. If you want a better overlook on how this process plays out and why it is necessary, read Blind Man's Bluff by Sontag/Drew or The Silent War by Craven.

It's this thread just a joke about how Kalashnikov didn't invent the AK-47 and it's actually a combination of features taken from the M1 Garand, Remington Model 8 and Stg-44 and that Hugo Schmeisser is the one responsible for making it possible to stamp the recievers of the AKM series?

Everyone already knows all that.

You don't.

Ever.
>>
You can't. I've had them to. Have you ever had a dream where you're in a fight but your punches are doing nothing? It's because your brain is expecting a physical response but is getting nothing. Same thing with your gun, you expect to feel recoil, but you don't, so your brain thinks it malfunctions.

Dreams are weird.

Title says it all. I'm not talking about your typical "ISIS fighter gets dome shot off" video or gif, I'm talking about the shit you have to DIG to find. Whether it's a story your grandpa/friend/relative told you about hand to hand combat in a war, or rarely seen up close AND CLEAR helmet cam footage of combat and people getting dropped. The vid I'll post I'm sure may of you have seen but if you to 2:24 you clearly see the British soldier call out the Taliban, call him a fucker, and run up to him and shoot him.

AK guy here. I have an M&P15 sport, and I like it. I shoot it pretty much as is with the A2 front sight and magpul flip up rear sight. No tacticool shit, no add ons, just simple. And I enjoy shooting it that way.

I have begun to really like and appreciate the simplicity of the A1 style rifle with fixed carrying handle upper receiver, triangle handguard and fixed stock.

How do I go about building putting together a modern AR (I was thinking about a nickel boron BCG, nice trigger, etc) but keep the A1 appearance and not break the bank?

I've noticed a resurgence in popularity with respect to full-length AR-15 rifles in general. Thankfully, folks are realizing that 20'' is best and all that tactical 14.5'' shit isn't the best general purpose gun for their style of shooting.

Legal question.

I live in Wisconsin.

When I was a minor, I was in the special ed system(I wasn't sick or retarded, I just didn't listen.) They used restraint as punishment, one day I hit back and ended up in court; I was tossed in the delinquent wing of a mental institution for six months.

I'm now approaching 30. I haven't had mental health issues or run-ins with the law as an adult. Do the things that happened when I was a minor disqualify me from owning a firearm, or is it sealed? Google hasn't been helpful, and I figure someone here probably knows the law off the top of their head.

Is there someplace online I can run a NICS on myself? Or is the only option having a gun store do it?

In Illinois at least the FOID requirement is within five years, and I can't imagine you cheeseniggers have more restrictive gun laws than we do.
>>

>I can't imagine you cheeseniggers have more restrictive gun laws than we do.
I don't think this is true, actually. Wisconsin doesn't have an FOID system, OP is just interested in the 4473.

Anyway, AFAIK there is no way to run a NICS on yourself, so you'd need to get a gun store to do it. Or maybe talk to a lawyer, dunno.
