So /k/, I'm a relatively new gun owner and have a question about weapons firing 5.56 and .223. Pic related is my grandfathers AR-15 he build from an 80% lower. And its since then been handed down to me.

This gun is marked for .223 and 5.56, and as far as I understand, they are both the same caliber and everything, but 5.56 is a "overpowered" cartridge that shouldn't be fired out of a gun marked specifically for .223 because it will put unnecessary strain on the gun. But why even manufacture .223? What are the pros? And being that .223 is around, why don't people just manufacture parts to withstand a 5.56 cartridge so that you can shoot both? Anyone have any insight or know about the history of these cartridges? And over all, which one should you shoot given you have a gun that can handle both?

.223 came first, but lol imperial so for NATO compliance they made it metric. To get better performance they upped the gunpowder and made the bullet a hair bigger.

A 5.56 rifle can shoot .223, but it may slightly less optimal than a 5.56

You aren't supposed to shoot 5.56 out of .223
..223 parts can be made cheaper due to resisting less pressure, but since ARs are a dime a dozen you will honestly find it cheaper just to buy an AR they can handle 5.56 rather than a mini-14 or something that only does .223

In America you can find .223 and 5.56 easily at your local Walmart.
>>
>>30208667
Not "overpowered" more pressure per specs in 556.

Shoot whichever you want, usually you find 223 cheaper

How effective were German armament/vehicles in the early part of WW2?
Theres a thread on reddit about this, most upvoted answers are implying all the German equipment sucked and the only reason that Germany was able to make large gains was from dumb luck. I don't think that answer makes sense.

Were German tanks, aircraft, small arms much better than the opposition? What about the professionalism of the German military and its tactics?

They were certainly better in some aspects, but as the war went on they were drained of resources and production. Plus allies technology wasn't that far behind in some places, or even ahead in some.
>>
Is 'german stuff was unreliable shit' a meme?

Seems like the stuff was the same as allied stuff but suffered from fuel shortages and replacement part trouble due to allied bombing more than the actual vehicles having drastically incorrectly made components.

German AFVs for the most part had wildly disproportionate kills to losses.
>>
>>30208381
First of all, to get it out of the way
>Reddit

That said, German tanks at the start of the war were absolute garbage when compared to their competitors. Little armor, TIIIINY guns (they started the war with tanks whose main armament was either a machinegun or a 20mm autocannon, who were never desired to see combat, but instead be training tanks). They did have one key advantage, which was the cause of their success- each and every tank had a radio and their commanders were well trained. The advantages in maneuvering this gave led to all of Germany's victories in the early war. They outmaneuvered their opponents on the operational level. This was only possible due to the speed and coordination of its panzer divisions.

Their planes were pretty good. Infantry equipment was decent. Artillery was sufficient as well.

What is the most accurate 7.62x39 rifle?
39 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
I assume it's either the Valmet Rk. 62 or the SKS as they have longer sight radius than AK's and Vz. 58's. Also the SKS short stroke piston action has slightly less recoil than the long stroke piston action of the AK. Among the AK's, the milled receiver variants are supposed to be more accurate than stamped steel versions, due to the receiver being more rigid, though I doubt that this would be measurable.

I'd imagine the Cz527.

What are you going to buy instead??

Fuck em. If they want to limit their sales then it's up to them. Also there are better scopes out their for less money.

This news cost them a D-EVO sale. Tbqh, I could care less about their other options as Leica, Trijicon, U.S. Optic, and Tangent Theta exist.

Should I join the Marines? I don't really know what I want to do with my life, but I've always had a fixation with the military in the back of my mind. Of course, I do want to serve my country too. I've met personnel from all of the branches, and the marines seem to be having the most fun. Is the marines a good path?

There's a lot of hatred for the Marine Corps, especially on here. What you should know as that of the branches, its pretty small. First find a field of interest that you may enjoy, the Marine Corps will not guarantee you the job you want, unless you go into the reserve. Most everything you can do in the USMC you can do in the other branches, but with one exception.

The Marine Corps has a general higher threshold for discipline, a higher physical fitness standard, a greater focus on individual skills and marksmanship, and a generally more aggressive command.

Hyperbole aside, look at the Marines if you want the greatest demand and challenge. Also note that every branch has individual units that are much better run and sophisticated, but as a general rule the Marine Corps is among the most befitting options for one looking for combat and discipline.

Its not bad, just make sure you can get a good contract for the job you want, or pick it in the reserve. Otherwise the other branches are much more exact, you don't exactly want to be a cook.

>Inb4 the Marine Corps isn't necessary anymore, Airborne is the shit yo

Security thread. I'll get the ball rolling with the hell that was my first and last security jerb.

>Don't be me
>working in security
>guarding the set of a show that is somewhat publicly accessible
>3am rolls around
>someone is poking around on some of the leftover equipment
>he looks too homeless to be on the crew
>ask him to step away
>turns around
>is a very tall basketball american
>informs me loudly that he is trying to do cocaine
>I request that he does it somewhere else
> He informs me that his cocaine was expensive while shaking a baggie of crack rocks at me
> I inform him that I respect his life choices as long as it's not on top of the equipment
>He starts advancing on me
>mfw I weigh 135lbs
>mfw I am not allowed to carry any weapons
>he proposes the he does one hit and leaves
>I accept because $10.50/hr is not enough to risk getting shanked
>he smokes some crack and peddles away on his bike
>I suddenly realize how close I came to death
This was my second night on the job. Never again.
