Whatever happened to Remington's quality? Old timers talk about how great they were decades ago, but my 700 caused so many problems I ended up selling it.

The main thing that bothered me was the trigger on it, is there any way to fix it, I know they sell triggers but how are they? Is there anything in the works to improve the triggers in bullpups right now or is it even possible?

The upcoming desert tech bullpup is supposed to have a pretty legit trigger out of box, and the aftermarket tavor triggers are nice, but fuckin expensive.
Personally, I'm waiting to see how the Desert Tech rifle is. I'm itchin for a bullpup too.

Would it be fair to say that there's basically no more major innovations to be made with firearms designed around cartridges? (at least no major experimentation like there was in the early 20th century to around the 70's-80's). Seems like all they can do not is different sights, furniture, maybe twist rate, minor modifications basically.
If so, where does that leave the future of the firearms development and manufacturing, is there any chance we'll see attempts at new systems such as rail gun/laser technology or caseless ammunition?

I've always wondered this myself. I remembered reading an article somewhere saying that basically we've invented and basically pushed the limits for chemicallly propelled weapons back in the 60s with the dawn of the modern assualt rifle. I'm starting to agree, all we see nowadays are companies perfecting rifles to make them more precise/accurate, but not much in terms of changing the firearms themselves. You could arm soldiers with AKs from the 40s and pit them against folks with modern weapons like...

given enough time we'll see the advent of integrated weapons systems that fit into power armor and can be aimed with a HUD instead of conventional sights (a la HALO) but at the same time I don't see anything replacing firearms for quite a while till we come across a major scientific breakthrough

Tactical Pens.
My girlfriend lives in an area where she cannot have a knife, gun, pepper spray, taser, or really anything to defend herself with.
I'm thinking a tactical pen could be a good improvised weapon to stun an attacker in order to run away.
What are your experiences with tactical pens? Which would you recommend? Glass breaker is a plus.

The best I've found so far is a thunderbeast ultra 5/7. Sure fire socom is in the running as well.
Spike MRS-2 is a possibility but I can't find very much info on it.

I'm going to the range next week to test out as many guns as I possibly can and take comprehensive notes. I need advice on things to feel for like recoil and trigger break (I'm not even sure I know what that means).
I'm going to stick to a full sized 9mm for now since I cant ccw in my county (commiefornia). I've made this excel sheet to compare the most popular models for a variety of categories. I don't understand this google docs thing, but the hard copy lets you sort by price, name, barrel length, etc. with just a click.
