Thoughts on sporterized milsurp weapons?
I always thought it's a shame when you see a beautiful weapon and piece of history get turned into a polymer covered turd with an ugly Bushnell scope on it. Seeing shit get bubba'd is never fun.

this. for the price of mutilating a historic weapon of war, you can just go buy a used Savage/Remshit/Mossman/Sako, or in same cases even a brand new one, and use it for hunting instead.
It made sense in like 1952 when a milsurp Mauser or Arisaka would cost like 15-20% of what a decent hunting rifle would cost.
But now a even cheap milsurp like a re-arsenaled nugget costs like 150bucks, and you can get a solid used hunting rifle for 200 or 250.
Or you could get a low end new production rifle for like 300 bucks.
Sporterizing milsurps now is retarded.
All it does is destroy a piece of history and lower the value permanently.
Post non-traditional configurations for guns, or just odd looking things.

They are meant to be tight, numbers matching will be better though. I believe the idea was they weren't suppose to remove them unless they really had to.
I have a bayonet without a number that refused to go on my rifle when I first got it. I sanded it a little bit at a time till it was a snug fit but would mount on the rifle.
Ever thought of building your own PPS-43 rifle? This one looks kinda cool, and parts kits are cheap for it too.

I purchased a bow recently and plan to spend the next few months practicing with it so I'm ready to hunt when the cooler weather hits.
I've only got a 45lb bow, but I'm thinking that will be sufficient for boars. What weight arrow should I be looking at?
Also, I'm planning on stalking. Shooting from a blind doesn't interest me. Any recommendations on books that will help me understanding tracks and signs? I'm Australian, but books for tracking in other countries should be fine right?

I'd be leery of hunting pigs with a 45# trad bow (which I'm assuming your's is). Shot placement on pigs is different to deer and on bigger pigs with a "shield" is much less forgiving - you'll either need a bow and arrow set up to deliver enough momentum to punch through or take quartering away shots.
If your bow is a trad bow, you'll need to get very close to make those shots (especially as a new archer),...

45# is kind of an odd weight for a hunting compound, which is why I assumed trad. What bow have you got? (Also, what's its max peak weight/range of adjustment/IBO speed/your draw length?)
The same principles apply building an arrow for penetration with a compound, but depending on your bow you'll need a stiffer spined arrow than a trad bow so you'll either need more spine or less point weight, which can make getting a higher FOC a bit trickier.
