Here's a list of artists that have some great portfolios. This list is not complete and it would be great if /ic/ decided to contribute names of artists that deserve recognition for their work. This list focuses on artists who have shown a clear understanding in the technique and dedication it takes to hone their craft. As a result, creative and alternate artists have been left out.

This is why I grew to hate art.

Put detail into the focus piece then everything else not into focus has shit detail. Fuck everyone doing this.

So I just started working with digital media a month ago, I have lots of experience with traditional media and I'm overwhelmed by the color choices.

I'm planning to make a palette/swatch to narrow down the options like choosing colors from a box of painting, anyone has tried the same before or has been in a situation like mine?
I have several different palettes from different sources like pic related and I plan to narrow them down as preferences develope.

Well if you have experience in traditional media, try and think about color in the same way. You don't really have to mix colors in digital media, you just select what color you want. Obviously you can layer things and blend, but it's different from traditional media in that the steps aren't
>find what color you want
>mix that color
>apply paint
but is instead
>find what color you want
>apply paint

I don't think too many people lay out their entire palette before beginning a painting. The most common technique I've seen is to pick your colors with the color picker (the slider/wheel with the hue and a box with the saturation and value range of the hue) and use the eye dropper to sample colors you've already used from the painting. Ctrl+Paint advocates building up a mini-palette on a separate layer and actually mixing the colors to get new ones. I think the first method is superior, but the second...

lets find out which digital artist has the most fans on /ic/.

simply pick your favourite artist(s) (around 5 - 10). the order doesnt matter. i'll tally up the names in a few days to see who got the most mentions.

this is for digital artists only.

That's a terrible way to find out. Better to make a poll or something with names suggested.

Although that's not even really necessary considering it's obvious Ruanjia will win. I don't think he's the number 1 digital artist, but he is the most popular on /ic/ it seems. Both realists and weebs love his stuff, he is more accessible than Mullins, people who don't get off to brushstroke stuff like Jaime can appreciate him, and his stylizations aren't as extreme as Peleng. I suspect...

no thats the worst since there are too many artists to put on one poll. and people would be up in arms on why their special snowflake artist wasnt included.

I have a serious question.
HOW DO NOSES and FACES WORK in volumes?! Like the cheekflabs connected to the nose, etc.
Anyone got a handy explanation for that?

>HOW DO NOSES and FACES WORK in volumes?

Like how all other things work in volume? When observed, light fall from certain angles and reflects based on the surface composition, creating sharp and soft transitions of reflections.

Not sure if that answered your question.

How. the. fuck.

do you get a perfect cube out of an ellipse.

I don't mean the other way around, I mean how the fuck do you calculate a perfect ellipse?? It doesn't make any sense

I understand that the minor axis should be in perspective and I understand the 4 points should touch each vertice of the face of said triangle but how? do you just guess it?

in scott robertson's book, it says to "estimate the degree of the ellipse" how can I know if my estimation of the degree is right?

this is driving me crazy

after trying so hard for one week to have nice ellipses, I'm so glad I got it.

so! you need to consider all aspects of an ellipse as well as your perspective (1point, 2 points)

I thought that since it was a plane I should have only considered one of the points but, of course, that's bullshit. ignore the major axis and only consider...

Talent is not a meme, hear me out.

At first I too was thinking that "talent" is meaningless in a way that it's not that important compared to hard work. But after months and months of drawing and getting no real progress I started to think, that there are indeed some things that determine our potential. Then I just stopped drawing for a month because I was tired of seeing constant failures and now when I want to go back to it again - I literally cant draw at all. What's the fucking point of learning when you forget everything anyway.Talent is way more...

Hey, I haven't been here for years. My drawing has been on hold since married and kids. I recently started watching Mark Crilley videos on YouTube. They're really getting me motivated to start drawing again. Has he ever been on this board?
