How much realism do you need to understand before tackling stylize/cartoonish art?

Depends on the style and person. Some people go straight to stylized art and do well, others do realism first then shift over. /ic/ usually says you need to master realism first but that's demonstrably not true. So long as you have an understanding of form and other fundamentals you can begin stylizing. The issue is people will stylize without knowledge and produce crap or symbol-based work that looks flat and terrible.

I'm back home. Don't get a job at a call center kids, it will kill every fiber of your mental energy. I know I talk to retards on this site everyday but it's on a whole other level when it comes to call centers--you're dealing with the cream of the crop kind of retards. I'm doing full time hours as a history / geneology research assistant. I sometimes doodle at work when there's not much going on but even if you're working full time you can find plenty of time to draw after work, as long as you're not doing something so physically taxing that you're completely exhausted.

Does anyone use super sculpey here? I want to sculpt something on top of a baked sculpey part but I don't want the new sculpey piece to stick to the old one. Is there any way to prevent the new piece from fusing to the old one when applied directly?
I'm a little confused on what you're asking exactly? You want to bake one piece, then create another piece to add onto the already baked part? What exactly are you making? The only thing I could think of is using wire to actually keep the pieces separate with a little bit of wiggle room but kind of hard to give advice when I'm not sure what you're trying to do.
Here's basically what it looks like. I have a face done and I want to sculpt the hair on, but I want them to be separate pieces because it'd be easier to sand the hair and paint the pieces that way.
Well it sort of worked when I left it outside to freeze so I can pop the piece off. Anyway SS seems like to break when I cut thin areas. Any better alternatives? I see the nips like to use polyester putty for their sculpts. How sturdy is it?
