So i've been thinkin about this topic a lot lately, when is that the artist is ready to make some money with his art? Now i know that this isn't just about skill, as contacts and opportunities might matter even more, but i think that it's really hard to consider own artwork that good. So.. Is it just about publishing your art somewhere and waiting for people to catch on and hope that they will offer when they need your skills or how does this proffesional artist thing even work, i really have no idea.
So any pros out there willing to help newbie or perhaps...

A career in art is kind of like fishing. Some people with cast their pole and get some nibbles, some with get nothing and others with get the biggest goddamn salmon on their first try. Sometimes its the bait, or the way the fisherman wiggles their line.
But honestly, you will never get any fish if you sit at home trying to craft the perfect bait or fishing techniques if you dont get your ass to the river.
2deep4me metaphors aside, just put your work up, and go comment on other peoples works. Then people will notice you and eventually, you will garner people in...

You have a very pragmatic perspective about things.
Thank you.

Why learn anstomy?
>>2341306

>>2341323
Thats lame and unstylized
no need to
but if your works are complete shit due to lack of understanding it would be nice if you studied some
Hey guys just saw this video
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNI07egoefc
I haven't been able to completely tell how I feel about his points but the video does rub me the wrong way.
Can I get some civilized discussion of your thoughts on this vid?
His points are valid.
What do you disagree with?
>>2332618
That the quality of art has dimished
>>2332624
>What is modernist art for 400
Would you agree if he had said standards instead of quality?
What should I study to draw in this style? Mainly the cityscape but the line work overall is amazing. Are there any other works or artists that have this or a similar style? Please share!

What the fuck is with the image you posted? Was it run through some fake oils filter then sharpened or something? Or is this some weird image compression I've never seen before?
>>2330378
>fake oils
ayyyyy

its been scanned
What would you guys consider the essential brushes to have for photoshop for texture and general painting? It seems the default brushes are pretty awful, but there are so many online it's difficult to set aside which ones are actually useful for painting.
Perhaps it's to tall an order. Is this just something you fuck around with till you find what works?
Don't we have a questions thread?
The default brushes aren't really that bad. You've probably heard this before but, it's not the brush that really matters, but your actual artistic ability. If you're basically a beginner, stick to round brushes for the time being.
>>2341069
ye
>>2341621
Not really a beginner, just had to switch softwares seeing as sai doesn't really give you the brush options you need to simulate the movements when working with traditional mediums.
Also, I expected the topic of brush sharing to be a bit bigger than something that would belong in a general question thread.
Do I have anything going for me /ic/? I'll answer questions or sketch a request or two maybe.
sorry, resizing my pictures, hold tight.
the trump
as requested by /b/, Hitler sleeping cozily with a smile on his face.
something that stops me wanting to draw is thinking it has to be good, when im not good
should i just throw away everything i sketch after i've done it? i feel like this could remove some performance anxiety, but i wanna know if thats somehow gonna hurt my progression (like if u need to look back and crit, or see progression or something)
opinions?
>>2341541
should clarify im doing exercises and i just want to improve, not looking to make any great pieces
Think of your drawings like frosting inside a frosting squeeze bag. The good drawings are inside you, but they're in the back of the bag. You have to squeeze out 100-200 shitty ones before the good ones start coming out. Be proud that you're getting the shitty ones out of the way first.
>>2341555
this is a bizarre analogy, but i get it. you're weird and i like you
(so i should keep these drawings and revel in their awfulness?)
Hey folks,
I'm looking for a coffee table type book of renaissance / religious art that I can use as references for a film project.
Would any of you know of a good book?
>>2341184
pretty much anything published by Taschen?
might be able to tell you more if you have something more specific in mind
I'm taking an art history to the renaissance class this semester. Excited as fahuuuuuck.

A thread dedicated to the human form in all its splendor
Post your favorite nudes
Post your own nude paintings you've made
Or post your own nude pics to inspire

we already have porn thread
>>2337232
Nude is not porn you retard.
Seriously. Am I autistic? I just don't get why this painting is so fucking important to humanity.
Its famous cuz it got stolen
da Vinci networked really hard to get his name out there. Lots of drama helped keep him current. He made mad cash in commissions too.
>>2340106
Ask yourself why any artist is famous. Why any artist living nowadays is famous? Is it because they have talent? Or is it because they know how to suck a mean cock and advertise their skill to those who want their cocks to get sucked.
Critique my monsterpiece!
just post it in the porn thread
Id fap to it but the face is pretty dull.
>>2339891
If you're actually going for a monster, for all intents and purposes this is literally a trap with an alien mouth and thats it. It needs more.
>>2339891
To be honest, I dislike its design. It looks far too humanoid. Maybe recreate its design to be more... "alien," figuratively speaking.
There is some level were you just aren't aware of your mistakes. But most artist can see what's wrong. So getting a critique that points out whatt is wrong doesn't help that much.
Wouldn't it be more useful to actually get advice on how to fix what is wrong. Because chances are he knows it's wrong but doesn't know how to fix it or were to get the information to improve.
>>2339213
Sometimes, when you work on a piece for so long, you kind of forget to look at your own work as someone who has just seen your work for the first time. It's nice to get a person who actually has seen it for the first time.
And you're right, a critique needs to be specific and that's the reason why people here do those red lines at times. But things other than shapes and composition are often quite difficult to translate into words that the person can understand. Without just fixing it for them of...

no, pointing what you're lacking might or not be userful, but that's up to oneself to be serious and take the effort to learn the fucking thing you're missing or misunderstanding
If someone is really trying to get better, good critiques will be userful. It's simple. If someone is just asking for hugs then it's other thing
>>2339213
>wouldn't it be more useful to actually get advice on how to fix what is wrong
oh, like a critique?
Registration for the new CGMasters Academy semester starts tomorrow. I am thinking of getting into one of the fundamentals classes like 'perspective'.
Anybody has any experience with them? Anybody else thinking of registering?

hehehe. It's kinda funny to see what looks like a bunch of seabirds in this scene. Crows/ravens or bats woulda been more in line with the vibe.
