Is there a reason artists use this pose so much?
37 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
They try to giv it dynamism with an overused pose cause they cant figure out a way of still being dynamic with a pose done by their minds, why they cant do dynamic poses without being generic? well, I ask you.

spy is the only one that looks good with that pose

the fact that the arm is behind the cloak ruins the drawing completely. It looks so painful and the cloth is acting strangely.

Anyone have anywhere I can start learning how to use values and shading and what not? Any tutorials you guys found helpful?
>>
>>2354367
Personally, I learnt more about it from studying directly works of other artists than by looking at tutorials.
>>
>>2354367
Studying old masters and photos will help you understand values and form more.

Also, one thing I'd like to advice early on is to learn to think in 3d and you paint in values, not in color. Those advice helped me alot during the time I hit the plateau

It's been a little while since we've had one and I seem to be the only one that ever starts them.

If it's in your sketchbook it belongs in this thread.

Hello there,
I have just finished preparing closed captions for my latest movie and thus I would like to ask more international community to rate my work. It is hard not to sound pushy - taking into consideration the number of views - but I hope you won't perceive it as an ad. I find making movies quite rewarding and I would like to get better - it would be nice if you could help me (development is the key - do scan through previous movies to see the changes). This time we prepared quite impressive scenography and make up; technical mambo-jambo also makes me laugh

Feel free to make any remarks and I will answer.

Thanks in advance

It's no good? :<
Any comments on the plot? Got it? :<

I'm really struggling with line-weight and I was wondering what exactly it's suppose to represent or how it should be used? Also is there any examples of really solid linework with absolutely no shading or colour...?

>>
>>2356092
It depends what your going for, if your painting realistically its to help guide you.
other than that usually lines represent edges and/or shadows (so I'm not really sure what you mean by no shading)
>>
>>2356099
I was referring to weight specifically, why would an edge be thicker? Is it contrast, is it depth, is it shadow, is it to seperate major forms from the details, is it to pull the viewers focus? Is it just one of those things, or is it a combination? Do you use different types of weight for different effects or does one approach work for all artworks?

I want to be able to do a clean drawing and have it stand on its own as a complete work of art, the problem with examples with shading or colour is that filling those lines immediately pulls attention away from the linework itself and makes it less important. With proper examples of pure clean linework, it's been really difficult to figure out what exactly works.
>>
It can represent a few things.
Commonly it's used for two in particular - the first is to indicate what's in light and what's in shadow. Darker lines in shadow, thinner lines in light. The second is to have thicker lines for closer objects and thinner lines for further away.

There are other uses too, but those are the two biggies.

What do matters more in art?

To be an average artist with an extensive art production, covering every topic and dealing with basic deep topics (baby tier philosophy).

To be extremelly good in technical terms but producing very few pieces during your life.

Excellence comes in many different way, it only matter what do you want to be known for. You can be excellent in being highly productive or you can be excellent in oil painting, but usually average artist never make it into history books. On the other hand, many artist in history books died like a hobos. Choose your way that is true to yourself. Pretense will leak through your art, so will honesty.

Also, you can start as average artist that tried to do everything, and later pick whatever you like the most.
>>
>>2359641
yeah, but there is people like the guy who made Project 9 from outer space.

He will get in history books, maybe as the "worst director" but he is right now a cult director and really have a fanbase among film fans.

His movies are pretty terrible in terms of technical skill, he's worse than even current film students.

But, his movies have that passion and true honesty only good art has.

Even if he's pretty terrible in terms of technique, his movies are so fucking good, almost as good as stuff like citizen kane, only that he archieve greatness by going with infinite negative technique and infinite negative skill.
>>
>>2359645
Well, if he makes it into history books, than he must have had certain qualities (that enriched some and appealed to people. But I don't think he wanted to become "meme" director. I would say the qualities he poured into his movie can be real, but unintentional, therefore, lucky coincidence.

It's up to everyone what they choose but betting on luck doesn't seem like a good way honestly. And as I said, honest personal projects are the best projects, because the love for it will be visible despite the bad "conventional" qualities it might have.

There is also matter of "what is great art". Personally I think that projects, that impacted people in a great way (i.e. made them follow virtues or do something meaningful/creative) are great art. Projects that impacted people shallowly is just art (block busters movie, fanart, etc). Thats why "popular" things are rarely considered art, because they pander to majority which means it loses strength to be impactful.

How do Korean artists draw so well and almost all carry a certain unique vibe? Is it cultural for them to get inspired by their peers' style? Do they have their own communities where they discuss their works or share secrets with each other?
I want to know if anyone has any information regarding of art in Korea and has anything to share as a tip or websites.

I honestly don't know OP, but my guess is that they grow up in a certain culture that points then in a common direction artistically. It's the same thing with Japan. I also think that children there grow up with a stronger sense of self discipline, unlike the US. But if you want that style, you will have to work hard for it.

what unique vibe? they are just like japan with darker color palette.

Artist or not, I feel like I'd be the same sorry sack of shit I've always been. Knowing how to draw doesn't change that.

As an artist I feel kind of worthless. I hate this industry with a burning passion and I'm sick and tired of sucking up to people. I hate how uneducated I feel because instead of going for Engineering or Science, I was the guy who wanted to draw knights wielding swords.

On the other hand, I've moved out and have my own apartment, and if I took the Uni path I'd still be living with my parents and putting up with their retardation.

Hello /ic/. I wanted to know something. How do you guys deal with strong sexual fetishes while drawing? I personally have a MASSIVE foot fetish, and whenever I try to draw something all I can think about is drawing the best looking feet I can so that I can fap to them. I'm absolutely fucking disgusted and sick of this. I just hate that I can't draw what I like without somehow sneaking in my fetish. It's actually ruining what I want to accomplish in art. Does anyone else share this problem? I know some of you might recommend I just "work with it", but I really don't want to be a fetishist artist. It sucks because I do enjoy drawing feet, but It seriously does affect my ability to focus and draw other things, which is important when I someday want to become professional. Also, if for some reason can't tame this fetish of mine, how could I fit it into my artwork without making it blatantly obvious that I have a foot fetish? If every piece I drew had at least ONE barefoot girl, I feel like people would catch on. If any one could give me some advice, I'd appreciate it. Pic related is not my art (of course) but sort of related.

I dunno, but why do I feel cringe over my own works.

I know it's technically not bad (not huge mistake), it has figures that don't look stiff, the proportions seems correct.

So, what is wrong with it?

Why do I feel cringe after letting my eyes to rest?

I did the mirror trick, but there's no a big mistake at first glance either.

Because the faces are wonky as hell among other things.
>>
i'd say the proportions are a bit off. perspective is a bit flat too. your forms look like they got squashed into one spot.
>>
>>2359517
Because your drawings look like shit, you need to read the sticky, stop watching anime, Loomis, draw furry porn because furries are rich, etc.

I'd like to start painting, while I like the effects of watercolor the best they seem like a hard and expensive medium to waste supplies on.

Would It be a better Idea to learn to paint digitally (I have a, note 2, and an intuos 3, and I might buy a note 10.1). Then learn acrylics and watercolor?

On that Note, has anyone painted on a Galaxy note 10.1? How is it?

>Expensive
Do you mean cheap? Because a single tube of watercolor goes a long way. It`s easily the cheapest tradition painting medium.
>>
>>2359297

Compared to acrylics?

What I meant by that was that I'm wasting money on paper, brushes, and paint compared to using a tablet I could resell.
>>
Can you draw on paper or not?
Dosn't matter if you want to paint digitally or analogically you need to know how to draw.
Watercolor maybe cheap but is also one of the hardest mediums to master.

>>2359310
No matter what medium you try you will still have to buy supplies.
