photoshop - duplicate layer - hide the original - magic wand tool at 40% - select black - delete - save as png. there's ppl at /wsr/ that could do it for you (sometimes i help).

What on earth sort of obscure situation would I be in that I could say "font" instead of "typeface", and the person I'm talking with not know what I mean?
The person would have to have to have some knowledge of typography. The distinction between both is one of the first anyone reading about the topic learns.
Knowing that fonts are files and typefaces are the actual letter forms is useful, but Joe Schmoe doesn't give a damn...and there are designers with their pretentious heads so far up their ass that they don't grasp they need to dumb it down for Joe Schmoe...and they think of Joe Schmoe as the only retard when they're acting autistic about the whole thing themselves.

Nice trips and good point. The pretentious turboautism in designers is a defence mechanism to validate their expertise. They are out to prove to their client they know what they're talking about and can take care of it. While I hate it, i have sympathy because it prevents clients interfering because they become subordinate in knowledge.

watch this seminars (the more you watch the better) also on youtube find people who make photoshop contests (sometimes they offer money) and try to come up with something.

1. Don't use Photoshop.
Howdy everyone, I am in pretty desperate need of help.
My computer died and I have to finish a flyer in two days. I have a backup of the photoshop file and wanted to now continue on the university computers (Windows 7 and Photoshop CC 2015), but I am using a custom font and don't have admin rights to install it...
Please tell me there is a workaround!

None who have/use photoshop or powerful computers that I could borrow. I studying in a completely different field and just started doing a bit of design stuff as a hobby years ago, no other strings attached really.
Also it's not a paid project or anything, but I committed and can't let those people down. Any ideas how to use fonts without installing them?

you could try online "font samples" where basically you type your text and see how it looks. and then just take a screenshot however i doubt it would work.
maybe try /wsr/ you can post the text there and someone could send you an jpg/png with your text and font.

A while ago I decided to try and make a shitty ARG that involved a gaming channel. In order to sell the game channel gimmick, I decided to actually apply some of the things I learned in basic graphic design and make a convincing logo. What I ended up with was this. Nowadays I've left the fake game channel to rot, but I can't help but wonder if I can at least get something from this dumb logo in the form of a critique and learn something from it.
In short, just tell me if there's anything salvageable from this. I will include a resized version of the logo...

How hard is it to get caught using a font you didn't pay for in commercial use?
What's that entire process like? Do you just say fuck it and use whatever?
Also with fonts like helvetica neue what are the guidelines of where it can/can't be used

just dont go and use some unique trend font from 2016 without paying because you could get caught out.
The classic fonts are all pretty much open for use

try duplicating the layer and doing halftone on only the top one, then scroll through the different layer screens

So Im making a sprite sheet of a bunch of different interchangeable gun parts for a game. I drew up each cell on seperate layers and saved it as a .pdn, I went into infranview and exported the layers as seperate equal sized files as .png. Now I want to arrange all the fiiles into a grid. Is there any tool I can use to avoid placing each file manually? Like just import 30 files of equal size and have them automatically form a grid?

Hey guys. Just starting out in web design. I've learned HTML/CSS and a tiny bit of javascript. I'm starting my own personal website using github and c9 IDE. I was wondering what people think about Bootstrap? Is it worth it to implement it on my site? Is it a bit of a copout? Also what are the benifits of using jQuery for my site? Is it really necessary or can I make a functional web page purely with html and css?

I dabbled in web design for about a year. Not anymore, but I'm mentioning that just to mean I have a little experience with it. You can do without scripting but I wouldn't really want to. jQuery is so powerful and open to innovation that I wouldn't want to pass it up. I didn't do a lot with it but I remember having a jQuery tool that helps in creating the codes.

None of them really stand out as being better than the other the exception being the last one, I think you need to work more on your font choice especially with the "comic-sans-esque" font you've used in a few of the logos, if I were you I would be focusing on developing your last one further

What the hell am I looking at?
There's such a mishmash of styles and weights and choices in each of these, I don't feel any cohesion in a single one but the last, and the only reason the last is okay is because it's so generic and uninspired.
If you're making a logo like this, you have to think about how it would be used in alternate applications as well. I'm assuming the most obvious would be a standalone "VD," which most of these logos wouldn't work for either....
